Have you seen any of Tony Jaa's movies? Do you even know who Tony Jaa is? I've already seen this movie and in my opinion, Ong Bak and The Protector has "the best" martial art fight scenes.

Also, as much as I LOVE Tony Jaa, this movie didn't quite live up to the hype. It doesn't beat Ong-Bak that's for sure. Every critic in Thailand scolded this movie. The fighting is great and all but the movie tries to be too "cool." In one scene, the bad guy rings a bell to call upon his underlings to fight Kham (Tony Jaa). And these fuckers come on roller blades and BMX bikes and fight while roller blading and riding on their bikes. They might as well have ninjas with lightsabers pop out too.

The only thing I don't like about Tony Jaa's movies are the fact that they are RASCIST against Vietnamese people. That's right, RASCIST! The thing is Thailand has tried several times in the past to take over Vietnam and all attempts FAILED. So they make Viets the bad guys in this one. the title "protector" is not based on self defense or to protect ones self, its about how the Thai culture reveres and admires sacred animals like the elephant. this movie is based on a mother and child elephant who were meant to be given to the king but were stolen and taken to Australia where Tony Jaa fights to get them back.
If they are so good then why did their village get viped out? Why is the "last remaining warrior" who takes revenge able to beat all the bad guys but his entire village couldn't take on a few mobsters?

The only thing I don't like about Tony Jaa's movies are the fact that they are RASCIST against Vietnamese people. That's right, RASCIST! The thing is Thailand has tried several times in the past to take over Vietnam and all attempts FAILED. So they make Viets the bad guys in this one. I like the movie and all, but couldn't they have used a different bad guy type of thing here? I still give props for the sweet effects and Thai style of fighting even though they hate Viet's style of fighting.

the title "protector" is not based on self defense or to protect ones self, its about how the Thai culture reveres and admires sacred animals like the elephant. this movie is based on a mother and child elephant who were meant to be given to the king but were stolen and taken to Australia where Tony Jaa fights to get them back.

lol, you can turn off the subtitles if you want. Though it's not very good if you can't understand Thai. ^^
I'm used to subtitles so I don't mind them. But I understand about 1/3 of the language anyway.

This movie was aired almost 6 months ago, under Tom Yum Gong. The story line is actually about Tony following a band of thieves of stole his elephant (Yes, an Elephant). and well, the story just intecifies more within itself through fights and such. 7/10.

Rented this movie last month. Its the best martial arts film ive ever seen. Apart from som bruce lee stuff of course :)
It hast he coolest fight scenes scattered all overt he place. You guys will be amazed if u havent seen it yet. I seriously reccommend watching it on sept.8th

Look at some of you fools talking about Ong Bak 2 - it's not even made yet. Jaa is directing that film himself and is filming it at the moment. Tom Yum Goong is totally unrelated to Ong Bak, even tho a lot of the original Ong Bak cast are in the film.

'Tom Yum Goong' is the original name of this flick... saw this last year and have the dvd.. its good.. anyways I love how Quintin's name is attached to this.. its feels like film makers walk up to him and ask him if he likes there movie.. and if he nods 'yes', his name is attached to it and the movie gets the huge UMPH! in sales.., and if he nods 'no' then there taken out back and shot in the back of the head... gotta love this guy...
