Mr. Purdue was trying to point out that a) his chicken is "more tender" than Swift's "Butterball" turkey", and b) it's a viable alternative to what you'd normally serve at your Thanksgiving table. You'd be surprised how many people took Purdue's advice that year.....

i don't get it. why does he say, "it's a good bird, but it's a turkey" ? as if thanksgiving would be compromised by cooking the traditional poultry. is he trying to make chicken the new thanksgiving bird?

@woodenthomas - Unlike Ross Perot, Frank Perdue was about 6'4". Everyone thinks he was short because the camera was usually aimed at him so as not to emphasize his height.

I remember Frank Purdue from TV commercials back when I was a kid. With all his talk about "tender young thighs" and "juicy breasts", he totally sounded like an old pervert. I'm kind of surprised they even let him on the air.
