This is going to be his 2nd year in the same offensive system (for the first time EVER in his NFL career!) which will not only help Alex progress, but the entire offense as well. There is no more "back to square one, learn everything again" in a new offense. The team can pick up where they left off, expand on what they do well, and refine where they need to improve! Alex has a wide variety of weapons around him. This is his best opportunity.

I honestly can't see what 49er fans have to bitch about this season. Smith isn't playing poorly at all. We suffered losses because the team as a whole didn't rise to the occasion. Raye knows that Smith is a book smart person who needs to know the fine details of everything before he's comfortable. With that in mind I believe that continuity in the system will lead the 49ers to the playoffs within the next two years. In the age of instant gratification people should learn to be effing patient.

smith had a bad year in 05 cause he was basicly thrown in with a crowd of wolfs, he had a descent year in 06,and Nolen threw him under a bus in 07 after he got injured besides Jim Hostler made everyone look bad....so besides the 06 season(which he was on his way 2 a brake out season on top of that mike nolen was the coach then) smith never really had a far chance....i say give him starter this season and if he fucks up in the first few games put in Hill..then every1 can call him a bust
