I miss the very well crafted and sometimes overpolished productions of the 1970s. One can listen to those albums and always find out new sounds and a different feel to them.
This album is very underrated IMO, probably because this album didnt produce a ton of hit radio singles. To me this is the pinnacle of the McD Doobies sound. It is the perfect hybrid of all of their influences. It's very "motown-ish" in feel to me. Songs like "You're Made That Way", "Little Darling", "Echoes Of Love", they all have have those incredible tight background vocal hooks, which is very reminiscent of the Motown sound. I certainly think they were going for that feel on this record.
@Desoto875 totally agree ~ once I heard this album I had to hear it every day!!! 1983? both sides!!! Living on capitol hill overlooking beautiful Seattle! love ya! rosie prospects
Thank God for this beautiful new music released very quickly in August 1977 because it was the most sad time for me in the music world the weeks following Elvis Presley's death. This album was one of them released on August 19th 1977.
I remember buying the 8 track tape of this album in September 1977. Just about a month after Elvis Presley died. That is what the release of this album brings back to my memories of the music world in the 2nd half of 1977. Superb music that still came out. Music died more in the 1990s than the late 1970s.
@BBQFanNo1 absolutely agree with you though there was a lot of good music (mainly underground stuff from up and comers that had talent but little broad marketing appeal according to the big record producers and/or things that got little to no airplay or stuff from established artists like Mcdonald most of the 90s was the beginning of the end of real music of any kind getting any major attention, when Britney Spears the boy bands etc.started becoming the big thing it accelerated donward. sad
this is an incredible album. i love the title track. these guys will never be equaled - a great bunch of musicians and songwriters! i wish it was 1977 again :(
@jfjusa1 I have this album on c.d. and it's just as good if not better as back in the day. The Doobies were one of the great groups of the 70s and will always be counted with the best of that time. I miss this place in musical time.
I always thought there was melancholy (sic) throughout this album. It didn't have the energy of the previous, "Takin it to the Streets" but had some fine playing in spite of it all. I still ponder the group photo with Tommy almost right in the center. I was 18 in 1977, just graduated and thought of riding out to Cali to talk Johnston out of quitting. When you're 18 you're capable of anything!

@coachcdobbs This album did not escape my attention. 1984 I was totally attached to this song. Echoes Of Love was the icing for me.

This is such a great album! getting difficult to find real musicians these days; they are out there, just not in great abundance commercially!

This era should be recognized as the "soft rock" era. Around the late 70s - early 80s.
Great material out of that time like this or Christoher Cross' debut.
