that bass is soooooo sexy, action needs to be raised, you can hear the strings buzz, and playing with a pick is not playing bass..... fingers my friend fingers, I dig Geddy overall, and mccartney is a close second
@corg22 um.... Geddy has NEVER used a pic on an electric bass. His sound come from finger striking string. Paul is part of the old British scene. His newer stuff, he uses fingers, older stuff picks.....the best comparison of pick to finger sound, is Cliff Burton vs Jason Newstead both ex Metallica.
Nice Rickenbacker! I want one, but the 4001 is around $2000 or $3000 now. Anyway, great cover! Can u send me the tabs? Maybe i can put up a cover video with my Hofner
Great bass. I enjoyed your playing-you have the subtle bits in there too.Impressive. This one is really hard to play and sing -well I think so anyway.
Your Ric looks great for being almost 37 years old. I hope mine look as good when the time comes around. Has your mapleglo gotten more golden in the years since you first got it?
@cubyme1 are you sure it's a1973? I thought the Rickenbacker bass had the toaster pickup and the checker binding for that year..you can look on their website for exact year of your bass.
i wish i had that kind of controll when i play, your tabs must be different. but when i play with my hofner im all over the place, and its almost impossible. great job tho!
I remember being asked if I ever attempted this song, and thinking "that song sounds easy".... Yes.. Paul made it sound effortless!! I cannot get that rythym either. Good Job!
great sound !! what kind of strings are you using in this video ? flatwounds or roundwounds ? what combination of volume / tone are you using in pick ups ?
100???!!!! You just broke my heart. I remember when I was a kid and they were 425.00 brand new. Alot of money for a 14 year old in 77. Dont ever part with it.
Thanks for the compliment. I do agree that year was great for music and Sir Paul is a super musician. I checked out your bass videos and you play great.

very well, very well, only 1 question why do you use a pick?
bb3500 2 years ago
Hello bb3500,
One reason is that Paul McCartney uses a pick when he plays this song. I normally play with my fingers.
Thanks for the compliment,
Greg

Number one; I love this bass. That Rick is sweet.
Two, this is one of my favorite bass lines ever. Nice job.
I think even Lennon once said this was a fovorite bass part of his (even though he apparently hated the rest of the song!).

I like what you were doing at the intro (the old chain thing going), you were pick sliding on the A and pop plucking the D?
deuce0609 2 years ago
Hello,
Yes,
I picked slided or (scratched) on the A string and plucked the D string with my finger light touching on the F note to get a harmonic tone.
Greg

great sound !! what kind of strings are you using in this video ? flatwounds or roundwounds ? what combination of volume / tone are you using in pick ups ?
cjorata 2 years ago
Hello,
The strings are old RotoSound roundwounds from 80's. I am using both pick-ups which I adjusted to match the bass tone.
Thanks for the compliment!
