2004 was the first year that a six speed manual trans was available in the 1.8T A4

This motor used to be in my 2004 Jetta GLI We performed the motor swap in March of 2009 and have had it in the car for two years now and approx. 24,000 miles. Still runs perfect. I just pulled this motor out of the car on 3-13-11 so I can install a 2.0 stroker motor I built for it. The car belongs to my brother in law but I take credit for all the wrenching

1.8t comes with 6 speed stock. auto like on all cars is extra. then you get a 5 speed auto. not sure if the 5 speed has taller gears or something.

The check engine is on because Unitronic (a terrible company to deal with btw) was unable to write out a particular code having to do with my exhaust set up
