However, if you live in an area where a there are far too many cross streets or odd angled roads, neither the generalized map (which is often too generic to notice differences in unique streets) or terrain view will help you whatsoever.
More than once people in my area have complained of getting lost, even after cross-referencing two maps from different sites. Street View is for that.
So if you could hack a satellite you can see who ever, where ever, when ever you please. And that goes for Uncle Sam, no one is able to drop off the radar like you see in movies. Street View is EXCELLENT! I use it all the time in my job as a coach driver to see if the routes I want to take are wide enough, to find destinations, drop off and pick up points, parking spots etc.. I'm sure HGV 1 drivers and plenty of other professions use it too. If you don't like it, don't use it.

Street view is an invaluable tool in my line of work for all of the reasons you stated. @chemmymonster It shows apartment streets. Kids play there. You can zoom the apartment streets to houses nearby and see the bedroom windows clearly. My bedroom window can be seen on google street views and I am not happy about it. Women are more easily stalked by unwanted men through this ~ don't doubt it. I just love street view for it brings me directly to places I would never reach in real live, for I am not that healty to go and watch the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building or Loch Ness myself. It is more vivid than any other book, movie or map I have ever tried.

@chemmymonster It shows apartment streets. Kids play there. You can zoom the apartment streets to houses nearby and see the bedroom windows clearly. My bedroom window can be seen on google street views and I am not happy about it. Women are more easily stalked by unwanted men through this ~ don't doubt it. In the UK they have a serious problem with constantly being filmed. And, since they are filmed, their protests are "discouraged."

well google maps is good so you can get an eye view of where your going. forinstance if your takeing the bus to somewhere youve never been befor you can look at the senery just befor the stop so you know where to ring the bell and other such handy things

Explain, I understand why you say that it can be used to snoop around in peoples residencies, not that well, but it's possible; but how can it be used to target school children? You don't even get a time for the images (Finding out the time school finishes) and how could it not make people want to travel internationally, unless you mean that they just watch whatever they want on Streetview, which I have to admit, is pretty sad... I just love street view for it brings me directly to places I would never reach in real live, for I am not that healty to go and watch the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building or Loch Ness myself. It is more vivid than any other book, movie or map I have ever tried.
Many people like me will love it, and finding myself on one of images would make my day :-) Even if caught with my finger in my nose *grin*

You make valid points, it can be used as a weapon in different capacities but perhaps Google didnt have the foresight to envisage that or maybe they just dont care or maybe they want to spy on the general public! Detailed birds-eye maps are one thing but street view is entrely different and an invasion of peoples' privacy and personal space i say!

We should focus on the positive effect thta it has on our society, at the same time keeping an eye on those who might use it to do harm. look it will not decrease international travel because this is a tool for tourists to see if they like the place first an i think its a great tool if you look at map you want to make sure you want to get to the right place. with street view you can see what that place looks like first.
