Gary Lightbody already told everyone that this song, and pretty much the entire album, he wrote about a very painful break up he went through. 'Eyes Open' is all about being there, then breaking up, then trying to reach out to his ex that he's changed / mended his ways, and never getting over her, right though to the Warmer Climate hidden track. This track, Open Your Eyes, is the aftermath of the breakup that occurred in "Make This Go On Forever". He wants her to take his hand and come back.

This video is from the late 70's and it was shooted in Paris (France).

The crazy french director actually drove the car himself at about 4:30 in the morning to record this.

As a result, he had to spend a day in prison for "exposing the life of the citizens of Paris to danger".

Fifth Gear (Channel 5) did a re-run of this journey with Vicki Butler-Henderson (you would) driving a Citroen C3 with a camera on the front. The original was in a old diesel Mercedes with a Ferrari 250 engine dubbed over for the awesome engine sound. Due to the vast amount of traffic now in Paris (and everywhere!)the journey took nearly an hour, compared to the original of, i believe 8 minutes.
