@kirbydog262 well, I hope this fellow is ok, because he never posted anything again! I would expect he chose absolute dead calm... floated his videocam on something... went back to the boat and dove in (I know, dove ain't a word, but I like it)
I've swam from a boat before, and no matter how many times you do it there's always a fear that something will go wrong and leave you stranded, boatless and without any means of survival.
Not at all likely... but still "somewhat scary."
Nice video. I plan to cross in 21ft some day. 14ft homebuilt is another thing entirely.
Sailing around the Caribbean in a dinghy is such a good idea. Many people think they need a YACHT, all you need is to buy something small sturdy on location.
nice clip ,years ago i went from gadelupe to portorico in a 12 foot boat with the mast build out of bamboo for 8 days by myself ,,,what a ride,do not swim much when you are close to islands !i saw sharks bigger than the boat in costal waters ,good luck in you sailing..
You are braver than I am. Not only crossing in such a small vessel, but swimming in mid ocean with no one else on board. A friend of mine and his wife were sailing around the world and were without wind for awhile, so they went swimming. While doing so a wind came up and blew their boat away. After a few minutes, the wind stopped, and they were able to swim a few hundred yards, and get back aboard. Very scarey.
Swimming without a life line? That explaines why so short. He must either be dead or still trying to catch up with his boat as it sails off without him. Plonked!
What an amazing trip! Could you post any more videos? I'd be interested in knowing how much preparation you did, and how much experience you think is necessary for a trip like that.
Your whole journey was very inspiring. I wish I could do something like that someday, completely isolate myself on a personal trip just to see if I can take it. Congratulations, what an amazing feat!
omg i would love to do that

Did you buy blueprints for the boat or did you design it yourself.

what camera did you use? can you post a link to see the 45 min movie version?
321flare 1 year ago
The smallness of the boat is not an issue. This boat is safer than
most vessels.
Sailing alone can sometimes be dangerous.
Swimming over 4000 meter is no more dangerous than 4 meters.
Winds do not just "blow up". They can be predicted. Leaving the boat
for a few minutes is not dangerous.

Hi, this is the captain of Arrandir.
I have been reading the comments.
Yes I did a 58 minute documentary sent in some countries.
There is also a 45 minute english version.
I had cameras attached to poles and in one incident on a floating small platform.
The boat is big enough for food and water for maybe 3-4 months survival.

Even if it is BS the filming is beautiful and your personality is enjoyable. So, make a movie!

No way. No one in their right mind would try this in a 14 footer. There isn't even enough room for the water you would need just for drinking.
