This was done back in March 2007 - before he officially announced his intent to run - so, don't blame me. Note this was part of a challenge that Colbert, himself, put forward on his show with his video because of a disagreement he has with the corporation that owns Comedy Central.

Good luck finding the "real" announcement as that corporation agressively removes unauthorized video of their shows from YouTUBE.
