  • Probably a dumb question but how is this a LPJ snare?

  • @kurtdog009 i guess it's because of woods he used. Les pauls usually have mahogany body and maple top

  • man you are like a god of drummers jaja I will try make some one :D wish me good luck :P

  • So nice. If I had the cash I would get one off you.

  • that took a lot of effort. wow. looks great nice job

  • Don't get it... how did it pass of being kind of polygonal to be completely Round??

  • @Joselo1693 They machined it down to size and round it up both inside and outside

  • @calvintrainer1212 looks hard

  • @Joselo1693 Lath machine was used to "shave" off the wood easily both inside n outside. What is so hard about it? Plus is staves construction is not quite round, it will be round after that

  • Smiley, you are an inspiration. I love your work and your playing.

  • How did you make the bearing edge angle and height equal in every place? I mean if you were doing it by hands, how do you know if there aren't any irregularities?

  • So stunning. Needs wood hoops imo xD

  • Absolutely beautiful mate, good work, 10/10.

  • whats the point of the groove wedge exactly? (sorry if that's a stupid question. im more of a guitar player than a drummer)

  • @peaceloveguitar111 for stick rolling on the wood edge, it helps preserve your sticks and has a more substantial cleaner sound. Quite stunning that you made that entirely by hand, what level of craftsmanship.

  • My senior project's gonna be a bitch T_T There's gotta be an easier way to make a snare.

  • @Radomid stick a walmart band over a practice pad if u close it with some air in it not too much it will sound like a snare just a lot quieter

  • that's awesome!

  • at what distance did you put the butt plate and strainer?

  • Dedicated musicians craft their own instruments :P

  • When i retire this will be my first goal!!........ if i remember!!!

  • Amazing piece of craftsmanship.

  • i would buy it.....

  • what fo you call that kit that you used for the hardwar and all

  • Hi Smiley, I am very very curious to know how much time you spent on making this drum, or any snare drum. Based on a drum I built in a fashion similar to yours, I would guess about 50 hours per drum. Please say it's less! I would hate that you spent so much time on them.

  • ... screw this. i'll just buy one from guitar center and be happy.

  • what was the length of the lugs and the tension rods?

  • what was the length of the lugs and the tension rods?

  • good job man!!!

  • how much does one cost to make?

  • I just don't get one thing. you make a perfect job on the whole snare and then you put that horrible name plate. The lettering looks like "comic sans" wish means bad taste.

I bet you can find better.

  • Beautiful!!!

  • is it cheaper to make your own drums or buy drums?

  • @jangel2771 If you make really nice drums, it's much cheaper. If you make really crappy ones, you may have to go buy some anyway. I made a bubinga snare drum for about $120.

  • i feel poor cuz i dnt have any wood or any of this stuff :(

  • Awesome vids! I was wondering, do you have any tips on how to cut the bearing edges?

  • the drum sucks no talent here jk ppl that drum kicks balls it kicks scrodum hard

  • i am amazed!!!!! lots of talent

  • how much did it cost you to make it

  • Better in Japan!!!!!

  • how much would it cost to do this ?

  • how much you spend to made it!! its beautiful!!! I don't have the tools to do it! I would like to bye one from you!!

  • that is really nice

  • do you use some special machine for carpenters to make angles on wooden blocks or it is some tool like borer avaliable in every ,,Do It Yourself" shop? Where can i buy it?

  • that's 2 legit 2 quit

  • What does it sound like

  • @chioma5678

The music playing in the background is his band, and he is using the snare in the performance.

  • okay... what does it sound like?

  • this is jys beuty made of hands

  • An absolute work of art!!

  • how much did this cost to make

  • Beautiful snare to match beautiful musicianship!

    Keep it up!

  • i wish i culd play the drums...

  • eres un capo man me e asombrado de tus abilidades

  • I don't know what was better, the song (great trio!) or seeing the snare being created! Wonderful! Keep at it smiley, both are excellent!

  • Brilliance

  • You are pro

  • How Much Do You Charge To Make A Snare?

  • Fantastic hand work.

  • wow id pay about 10g for a kit like that

  • chapeau! I enjoyed this video much, excellent crafted drum plus the music is played well. thanks!

  • Solid work man.

  • Wow.....

  • that snare is gorgeus

  • Beautiful snare! Good job :)

  • would you sell any of them??? i would be very honored to own one of these beauties..

    いずれかをそれらの販売希望ですか???私は非常にいずれかの美しさ..の所有する光栄になる

    Hope the japanese is correct..

  • Is there an easy formula that can be used to figure out how wide each "block" of wood has to be and how many to use in the drum. I want to make a 14"x7" snare.

  • BRAVO!!! BRAVO!!! A true craftsman!

  • Dang how many hours or days possibly even months take you to make it?

  • this was truely amazing and i'm not even a drummer! Excellent work!

  • im 13 and im taking graphic arts at school and i thought i could start top make snares do you think if i want to do it i could do it?

  • I want to hear the sound of that snare also want to buy it :)

  • all together how much did this cost? id really like to try this if its cost effective

  • thats one thick drum

  • hey i was wondering how much supplies cost to make the drum and how long it would take to craft

  • wooow i love the snare but the throne combined to the kit looks awesome hahaha the leather color looks awesome combined to that kit hahaha

  • how long did it take you to make this?

  • craftsman, really nice work fella

  • hey smiley how much o you think it costed you to do this (exluding the heads and wires)?

  • egeti debiluri nivtebi dramistvis aq ar iyideba!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • that is gorgeous

  • make it easier ... please (seriously)

  • lol

  • hey, i understand that there is 24 blocks of 40mm x 7 inches but what angle are they cut on so that when they are all put together is makes a 12" in diameter shell?? please reply

  • my guess is that you should take 360 degrees and divide it by 24...which is 15....so each side should be 7.5 degrees because there is a left and right side to each block? Just trying to help :)

  • that makes sense, thanks man. i was just thinking. wouldnt it be a 97.5 degrees, because the blocks would already have a 90 degree angle of them

  • ThX DuDe

  • beautiful

  • but wait, how do you know if you got the bearing edge consistant all around?

  • That was the coolest video i've ever seen. no lie. let's hear it!

  • The looks and sounds awesome!!

I have a Walnut stave shell (custom made) and I need to finish it, drill it and fit the lugs, etc.

I will post a video when it's complete!

  • Thats a beautiful finish on that Maple! Great video, great snare, and great sound on that whole kit!

  • dont forget plywood shells has much more glue than this....

    anyway icant do this¡¡¡

  • what is a groove wedge for? ive seen a few drummers who have it on their snares but i dont know what their for.

  • @nickpISgreat

A groove wedge is for getting a fuller side-stick sound.

  • True craftsmanship,WOW

  • wtf,, this azome, great,, zzzzzzzzz

  • 1st 5/5 and amazing !

  • this is just impressive!

  • How long did this take from start to finish?

  • that is a great job! Perfect! One question: while sanding with water, doesnt wood absorb water and deform? The whole thing is made of maple, right?

  • HOw did much cost the pieces??

  • i can make toms with all this material or i need other material??

  • That's so impressive!!! I wouldn't even know where to begin.

  • hello!

as you did to find the correct angle? for make a perfect circle?

    as you cut the angle?

    Nice work !!!

    i wana try to haha

    :]

  • Hey i'm planning on making my own snare like this. How thick was the wood you used when you started, and how thick does it end up being.

Thank you for posting this video it really helps me.

  • maple : 10mm + Mahogany : 13mm

  • during the process it look'd like a very pretty rice cooker :)

  • fuck that im makeing one outa copper

  • cool

  • Wow! No words!!!!!!!

  • beautiful work!!!

  • WOW this is really cool !!

    very nice

  • that is one thick shelled snare

  • So fuckin amazing

  • Insane. Drums are so amazing. I don't mind that they're exp[ensive considering the work people put into making them.

  • awesome video!

  • buo! i wat one :D

  • how long did it take 4 u 2 bild it ?

  • you should try and make a whole drumset like this...

  • Watch the full video or read the discription. : P

"and Handmade Mahogany Stave Drum Set"

The picture he shows of the full mahogany kit is all hand made. Sexy as hell.

  • question: what is the block of wood around the top of the rim for?

  • Some combinations of snares and sticks don´t perform an optimus rim shot, so this block of wood replicates the sound of a rim shot to be played in an easier and accurate way... Have a nice day!

Look for Russ Miller´s Cascara Wedge for more information.

  • thanks

  • if you make it yourself it wouldnt be les paul

  • This is ace! I love it. I would love to make my own drum kit but am too afraid to start. This video really motivates me, more-so after sighting the final result. Well done mate. Awsome vid.
