so read that on TV Tropes Tyler is an enlightened bodhissatva, and that the whole point of teh show is Tyler trying to enlighten everybody else... totally blew my mind when I realized that that actuallly makes sense.

This is true! If they did make shows like this I would be so happy. I had seen glimpses of this show waaay back in 1998-99. I was like 8 or nine myself though! But I had an uncle really into anime.

Needless to say it IS classic. The OVA is so open ended so I wish they'd bring the manga over.

I think that cultural attitudes these days are too cynical for shows like this to be as popular as they used to. It's a shame.

There's good stuff coming out now, but the 90s were a special time for adventure anime.

They really were a special time for it. I am always so happy to see old 90's shows regaining popularity. Especially the so called obscure ones.

This one in particular really came at a confusing time in my life. I had to move, job promotion, fights with family, etc. So when I heard "Don't live according to someone elses rules. Live the way you want to how you want." For some reason it just made everything easier! lol

I hadn't watched this since around '98 and I just finished the newer dvd box set yesterday. It's sweet how in the opening he's all alone at first and falls from the 'tightrope' then towards the end everyone's together like a family pushing him towards the giant heart-shape with all them inside :D

There really isn't a character in the series I hate except Wang. The Marines crack me up, and it's mostly because half the men in my family were in the Marines XDDD.

Though, Yamamoto stands as my most favorite.
