  • This is not as much about memory as it is about how a chimp vision works compared to a humans. Remembering 5 numbers is not hard, however seeing them spread out in a split second is, for humans. We don't have the field of peripheral vision like a chimp does, because our environment doesn't require it like a chimps does. They see all the numbers, while we focus on one at a time. This is more of a vision test than a memory test.

  • Humans can only memorize 7 new things comfortably at the same time, explains why the usually miss 4 or 3. But god, you have to be an idiot to miss the first one :/

  • Chimps that can out-think college students? Why does that not suprise me?

  • i ve managed to beat it but sometimes i couldnt see the numbers... 0.1 seconds is the highest difficulty.apes are so much smarter that they get caught by hunters who put fruits in the holes of the trees and when the ape is trying to get it his hands stuck there : 0

  • the chimp had the anwsers written on the back of his hand i saw

  • Manada de hijueputas!!! desocupados.. no tendran ni mierda mas que hacer... consigan novia...

  • did he pick up a potatoe chip and eat it at 1:00?

  • lmao... yeah

  • But this has absolutely nothing to do with memory really!!!! It's about how quickly you can read the numbers. Most humans have difficulty seeing all at the same - not memory, not recall - just seeing what they're supposed to remember.

  • Good design heh?...

Hahahaha, one way or the other, this again completely disproves the fact that we are superior to other animals. Cause we ARE not.

  • Humans have lost their visual working memory to accomidate for larger frontal lobes (problem solving) and language. You can teach any idiot algebra, try teaching a chimpanzee.

  • "you can teach any idiot algebra".

I do not agree with you on thi particular point, at all.

  • Obviously I was exagerating the prove a point. No, many people can't learn algebra, but virtually no Chimpanzee can.

  • lol i seen sum idiots in walmart who cant add $1.49 to $2.37. had to call the manager. calculator broken ._.

  • In addition, I have found know study relating visaul memory for overall intelligence or school success . Math and problem solving is mainly correlated with executive working memory, vocabulary is associated with the size and activity of the hippocampus, and overal verbal logical reasoning is in a completely different hemisphere. None of these is associated with visual memory, but these areas of the brain relate to success in SAT and school.

  • Correction: I have found 'no' study relating visual memory to overall intelligence or school sucess. Damn 3 hours of sleep.

  • see i went to the lumosity site to do this and beat the chimp i got 9/10 i ahve a print screen proof but its pretty easy to be honest but it only means i have a good phtographic memeory but anyway my ponit is that the lumosity site looks way easier than what the chimp is doing has any1 tried this test b4?

  • ...ok sorry the amonut of numbers on this trial is easier but then i was talknig aobut had like loads of numbers for each trial

  • right let me say that again but by spelling properly this video of the chimp has easier/ less challenging trials but the video i watched from this test site for humans to see if they were better than the chimp had alot harder trials comapred to what the site tested for me which i thought was easier

  • I've tried the luminosity site as well. I can regularly get 10/10. I wonder if it is easier than the tests they gave the chimp? It might be, but I don't know for sure.

  • yeah, but as you can see hear the chimps got easier tests so he is probably tested at a variety of levels; then it probably averages out to 8/10 so we got some like middle or above middle difficulty on the site but not the hardest

  • This is an example of evolution at work.

Humans have complex things like language and higher math. We don't need to remember everything we see because we can look it up or ask someone else. Even when we navigate by memory, we don't remember the whole route-- we only remember the pertinent landmarks.

Chimps don't have that luxury. For them, visual memory is a highly prized survival skill. If a Chimp can't remember where the food or water is, it doesn't have the language to ask for directions.

  • @callsignsteveo No if u did this in 5 years like the chimp, im 100% SURE that u could do it atleast as good as the chimp -.-.

  • @callsignsteveo still... I would like to have a memory of an elephant and chimp :D

  • @callsignsteveo end of day chimp 1 human 0 :)

  • Cool. Maybe the chimps have a better photographic memory, but you didn't put the humans in similar conditions to learn the excercise.

See, these chimps train for that a LOT. It is possible that a human with the same training would be worser, but it is my belief that it would probably be better.

Photographic memory is also only 1 aspect of intellect. They can talk the mute language pretty well, but still not as well as fellow human.

I have no doubt that in some aspect, they are better

  • this is ridiculous no one could retain that inoformation that fast. its just something chimps have that is special. Which doesnt make sense to me since we were chimps?

  • @readygo242 Our photographic memory hasn't been a primary factor in our survival and procreation for at least thousands of years.

  • thats...cool...very cool

  • not cool at all! give to any kid real stimulents (money! not peanuts). one test 3 euro, another test, another three... What the hack we are apes to learn things for peanuts?!?!

  • look at 0:50 he didnt look thats good at the screen and he still knew it

  • I think I know a couple of those college kids. They are totally lazy, hate homework, and have no interest in learning or retaining any information. In fact, I think my stepson is dating one of them! But hey, she's pretty...isn't that ALL that matters these days? Seems to work for Britney and Paris....
