  • Which key is the best for the Melody Maker? - I mean to allow one to play most of the songs; is it C like the major diatonic?

  • @thewallachian -- I'm not sure there's a "best" since it depends on what key you're playing in, but if I were to just be able to have one of the Melody Maker harps I'd go with the G. Keep in mind that the Melody Maker in the key of G is almost the same as a standard diatonic harp in the key of C (just 3 notes are different).

  • I've had a problem on my diatonics when i play down into the lower octive and have notes missing. This might be the answer.

  • Yep... this was designed to fix that problem!

  • In my Opinion the Greatest Harmonica Ever!!!

  • Just remember a G major Melody Maker is actually a C major harp. Lee Oskar calls it a G as it is mostly played cross or 2nd position. Seydel calls it a C Melodic Maker. I hope this clears up some confusion. This is a fun tuning try it. Funny enough though this tuning is not very much played by blues players as it is more for R+B, country, and Jazz. The 7th major tuning is called a Jazz or Country tuned harp. It brings the 5 draw up a half note F#. The Melody Maker is an offshoot of it.
