I bought this before the holidays. Ironically, one of our dog's name is "Hatch" so, of course, I felt it would be kind of nice to pick this up. I hadn't heard of this movie, but the cast looked great. This is a very sweet and emotional movie. The ending scene was terribly moving and left me feeling saddened for Hachi's death but relieved at the idea of his being able to "see" Parker once again as his memories played out of better times with his beloved friend. In a word? Memorable..
This movie was amazing.I loved loved loved Hachiko. I was sobbing by the time the movie was over It was beyond sad and knowing it was based on a true story made it that much more heart breaking.
i tried not to cry because i feel stupid watching a movie with my whole family and crying like crazy in front of them. But it did not really work out, i LOVE this movie so much i cried for so long :( TOTALLY RECOMMEND IT!
@chescaa8i8 where did you watch it????honestly me...i am just reading the review of the movie in wikipedia and i can no longer hold my tears...it is so sad...how much more if i watch the movie..i know where to watch the original one but i still want to want to want the new version.
I saw it today. Mase me almost cry. I had taers in my eyes at the end. FIRST movie EVER that i fellt really bad and testa starting to drip. Love the movie:). But i have heard that this is based on a true story. And that they have a statue of the dog where he was always sitting. Is this true? (sorry for my crappy english) and i am writing this on the iPod so the auto thing is a pain in the Ass XD
The last part of the movie when (SPOILER) Hachi dies and has flashbacks of him and Parker was the saddest movie moment I've ever seen. It made my boyfriend cry, but he tried to hide it because he didn't wanna look like a baby in front of me.
@Chihuahuasrule1000 - My husband left the room at least six or seven times to collect himself, but he did not want to show it! He thought it was a wonderful movie, too.
You know it's funny that the film's plot sounds more like that of a short film rather then a feature length film. I think that might have been why it was critized but over all fantastic review man!!! Keep up the good work!
Actually it's because of a different reason (I should have explained it in the review). It was criticized because of the premise; a dog, waiting for the rest of his life was a dumb idea to someone. I have a bulletin from IMDB, having all the links, posted in the author info.

Thanks for the comment. Yes, there is a bronze statue held at the station in Tokyo, Japan where Hachiko waited.

I'm a man (37) and that's 1st time I cried at a movie !!! Girlfried laughed at me.
Such a lovely movie until the thing happens - so cute and aahhh etc. then I was soo upset - and the ending didn't make me feel any better at all.
The filmmakers really should have shown more of the happy times of Hachi and Gere - like - on days Gere was not working etc.
I wouldn't want my KIDS to watch this! People die in Disney films and kids don't get affected but Hachi will affect them !!
