like an hour later it wont start up, the ps2 wont play the sound it makes when i turn it on. so what i discoverd that it wont work for 1 day or 2, so after that time spand of no usage i can retry a day later and play the damn thing for 8 hours straight but when i trun it off to take a break and when i decide to use it again it wont work..?? so thats the problem with my ps2. any inputs tips advice or possible solutions anyone feel free to let me in on it.

MY PS2 is fcked up, at startup everything is fine, and the controller works, but if I put a game in, then the game loads and it starts, so then the in-game language selection comes up but then for some reason all buttons are like disabled and do nothing, I bought a brand new PS2 from a trusted store.

check if the motor chord that moves the lense is connected fully into the slot. mines had the same problem. and i fixed it by putting the chord back in.

yh I get that problem mine was broken like 6/7 years ago and got it fixed like a year ago. However it does that alot of the time i cant open the black thing yet becuase of the mini screws. Normally i leave it for an hor and it works normally im not sure if that works for u.

i spent basically all of last week assembling/soldering ...things onto a bunch of older ps2s like this one. i saw this problem twice when 1) the ribbon cable going from the motor to the ps2 pcb was not plugged in fully and 2) when the laser was adjusted too high and was touching the disc surface preventing the motor from spinning. maybe try just reassembling the whole thing, or better yet remove the whole cd tray unit and just hold in in your hand and try it out.

í get my ps2 to read discs with this! : when the PS2 cover is off - like in this video, when it starts reading (power on or put disc in) tap two of your fingers on the disc drive cover. In a fast rythm like "takatakatakataka" until it reads. If not, reset and try again :)

theres 2 white screws in the back of the laser tray reset them to the lowest posible seting by turning them clockwise (they will click). when it kant turn anymore turn them both exactly 13-14-15 clicks counterclockwise

(mine works best at 14)... if yours has just the 1 whit screw then i think just do the same ...hope this helps

well what it looks like to me is that you disk spiner thing is not sping properly you could clean the sping bit with some rubbing alchol and thwn it should spin fine, or the motor has packed up.

rite what u have 2 do is. u see the white click wheel thing. u just have to keep moving that click whell untill the cd'start 2 spin. hope that helps. thats what i do 2 get my cds 2 load faster. works for me

Wow, your ps2 is way different than mine. How old is yours because when I took mine apart, it was much different. And my ps2 has problems too. It spins but it would sorta stop like that. I think my lens was dusty so I used a soft cloth to wipe it. But it still didn't work.

There are actually two lenses that must be cleaned in your PS-2.

The first lens is the objective lens. This is the lens that is immediately seen when you open the disc drive cover. However, underneath that lens is the fixed lens, and that also has to be cleaned, especially if it was very dusty to begin with.

the thing i dont understand is how can a lens problem keep the cd from spinning. i always thought if it was a lens problem the cd would spin, it would try to read it and if it cant then it would just give up. but, the cd doesnt even spin. it actually does the same thing with no cd in it at all. also when it put the cd in it does say reading disk but the cd isnt spinning. after about 2 minutes it will say that the cd used cant be used in this console. i will check out those videos though

When the laser is energized with a disc inside, the drive will detect that a disc is loaded and will spin up. However, if one or both lenses are dirty, it will not be able to attain focus on the track. As a result, it'll stop spinning while it tries to attain a lock and will continue until it gets a lock or, in your case, times itself out and returns a disc read error.

Try cleaning the fixed lens underneath the objective lens.

I hope you remembered the original setting for the tilt adjust gear.

The procedure to clean the fixed lens is covered in my tutorial. It may or may not work, but it's worth a shot.

Sony has always had this problem with a lot of their compact disc products. I have 15 year old stereo that does the same thing. It doesn't look like it's a trap problem (my PS2 had that and I just put double sided tape on the top of the disc). I'd try cleaning the laser. It might also be a motor problem. It's trying to spin up, but it's not. Almost looks like a torque problem. You can replace the motor, though.

You could take the DVD drive apart and take a look at the cd spinner and that white thing on the otherside.. Just try to take a peak. remove the small screws to open it.

it did that to me too, you may want to get a new PS2, or even better a PS3, its like its not reading the disk. if you get a new ps2, get a small one, cause the big ones have alot of problems

well the 2000 model has a disc trap prob and the 2001 has a laser prob, the 2003 is a big model and that has all problems fixed, so i dunno what ur talking about. I own a 2001 big and a 2005 slim.
