when i played your videos i was hooked i just got my first mac pro and i love it installed a ati hd 4870 apple card im also going to change dual cpu to quad cpu i have the first gen mac pro 1,1 keep the good work up mate :0)
hi tom that door wont be secure i have a mac pro and g5 and i tryed the door from g5 it doesint stay on if you pull it the latches dont line up with the door
@TheiTouchGuy1994 yeah man the 7300GT is a heap of junk for the Mac Pro... Still, something from the 7000 series in a PPC machine would be nice :) - It's cool you got the 8800GT. I really dislike my X1900. It's loud, apparently unreliable, and it's simply not very powerful. I think I'm going down the road of a used 4870 from eBay with my Christmas money :)
@TheiTouchGuy1994 Yeah, but lets face it, they're going to cost an arm and a leg.. lol. Plus, I don't need something that new in my Mac Pro. I don't use it for gaming. If I did then I'd deffo want a 6000 series card, and a decent one at that.
@ItsMyNaturalColour hello i am planning on buying the 8 core 2008 mac used, and was wondering if will run higher end games if i upgrade the graphic card and ram. Is it possible that it will run battlefield 3? on high detail?
@ItsMyNaturalColour alright thx for all the help. one last question will any 6870 on ebay work? like this one? XFX HD-687A-ZDFC Radeon HD 6870 Graphics Card - 900 MHz Core - 1 GB GDDR5 SDRAM? thx again for all the help!! <3
@xxKipper you have to get a 6870 that's been modified (flashed) to work with the Mac Pro. If you search "Mac Pro 6870" on eBay, you'll notice that you get far less results, and all of the cards are more expensive. Try and find a card that's been flashed well. They're starting to come out now with the viewable boot screen so things are looking up for the 6870 in the case of Mac Pro's :)
Here are the specifics of what I have: Model Name: Mac Pro Model Identifier: MacPro1,1 Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz Number Of Processors: 2 Total Number Of Cores: 4 L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB Memory: 1 GB Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz Boot ROM Version: MP11.005C.B08 SMC Version (system): 1.7f10 Serial Number (system): YM6315Y1UQ2 Hardware UUID: 00000000-0000-1000-8000-0017F200A350
@xzloandanielmedia There are loads of tutorials on YouTube on how to install Mac Pro RAM. It's really simple :) You can see the riser cards in this video, and the modules just push right in. Search for Mac Pro 1,1 2006/2007 Memory.. Make sure they're 667MhZ and not 800 :) I can't post links in the comment box... message me if you need any links...
You may want to upgrade to a western digital velociraptor, 10,000rpm hard drive. I use that and my g5 speeds along quite well.Use the 1TB for backup. Faster the drive the faster the machine.
Could you help me understand the confusing as hell RAM thing? Lol. So you install in pairs for dual channel, right? But you can install multiple pairs, each in dual channel, but not get more bandwidth than dual channel? How does that work? Does the first pair get quicker processor access? Will OSX automatically use the quickest ones first?
@fossil98 Metal conducts heat better, so it actually cools better because it spreads it across the entire chassis rather than just a bunch of heat pipes and stuff. Same goes with the MacBook Pro's, the entire enclosure acts like a giant heat-sink so it's dissipated more efficiently.
Very nice! After seeing your video about this purchase I've been scouring ebay for a good deal. Not having any luck finding a deal on a Mac Pro I had to settle for a 27" 2009 iMac =)
Wait on a serious note: have you experienced the toxic smells that mac pros emit? European Mac pros contain a chemical called benzene that cause leukemia. Some US made Mac pros have the same problem, my friend has a mac pro and he gets a really bad head ache and metallic taste in his mouth when he uses the mac pro. And now I read on the apples support forum that someone had a bird caged right next to the mac pro and the bird died, the vet said it did indeed die from inhaled benzene. Scary..
@ijoshtech Top of the line MacBook Pro?... This thing in the vid is an 8-Core Xeon 64-Bit workstation. I love your amazingly accurate "1000x" quicker stuff... Amazingly logical :S
@ijoshtech ahhh ;) Better?... So tell me (In as much detail as you possibly can) how did you calculate that 'a custom PC with i7" will be 1000x better? How did you figure that one out?
@ijoshtech Nah you know what... great vid sorry for being a dick. Mac Pros are Beast i just would think you can get a beter PC for that besides the issues. Also read my comment on the HDD before you waste more money to get the 6GBPs interface its ridiculous how many people don't realise!
@ijoshtech i7 isn't Xeon, and can't be dual-socketed like Xeons. i7 also can't address more than 24GB of RAM, because quite frankly, i7 set ups don't need that much, but workstations do, because they do far heavier lifting than any i7 rig is made for. These things can run for literally months if not years on full load and be fine. An i7 set up would melt (literally) unless you have an insane amount of cooling and super high quality components throughout the entire machine, like these do.
@diediedie295 No, you can't. That board you mentioned is a Xeon board. i7's don't support multi-socket set ups. That's what the Xeons were made for. i7's support a maximum of 24GB of RAM, which was increased to 32GB with the new Sandy Bridge range.
if you pause the video on 0:03 the mac pro looks black xD
