"playboy" and "hustler" brought porn to the mainstream of western culture. took the act of masturbation and created a consumer product out of what could be seen as a spiritual act.. i.e tantric sex. the idea of both was to pretend to appeal to the upper and lower extremes of the class cycles, but by doing so allowing the middle classes to consume pornography with a split personality.i suggest instead of using porn, go see a councilor or a therapist, some one to make you feel good about yourself.

Thanks for the info about the recent feminist anthology "Everyday Pornography." It definitely looks like a "must-read" book for all those interested in pornography issues because it has so many excellent contributors such as Gail Dines, Robert Jensen, and other anti-porn feminist writers, activists & academics.

The real brainwashing is jealousy veiled as "help." It is well known that feminists and the catholic church view pornography and sex as shameful and degrading rather than treasures beheld since the stone age. Ironically the most prudish elements of society unintentionally make the act of sex and viewing of pornography more enjoyable because they add in a sense of danger and risk in the mix.

@professorfoxtrot - Yes however sex and porn does not equate - porn is a product of capitalism and is created through abuse and exploitation. Sex is the physical act of pro-creation, through which we can express ourselves.

Actors in porn are self-conscious and voluntary participants who want more money and power for themselves. It's the same thing in communist societies where government officials are surrounded by gorgeous women. It is innate within women to use their sex to their advantage. Even the wealthiest of women do it in pursuit of a little more.

@professorfoxtrot - Suggest to place yourself in the shoes of a woman in a porn movie and to actually go and preform in a porn movie - on the receiving end and see if you would see it as acceptable if it was you. I also suggest to watch some of the documentaries that has been made on porn that shows the extensive grooming that takes place when girls are brought into "the industry". Because your comment shows how you place yourself deliberately ignorant to justify abuse.

@annabrixthomsen One of my favorite songs is called "Just" by Radiohead and the lyrics are, "You do it to yourself, just you, you and no one else." And that's exactly right. I wouldn't put myself in that person's shoes- If they're going to buy the shoes and wear them, that's fine just don't place blame on everyone else.

@professorfoxtrot - How can you assume what it is like to be participating in porn, if you are not willing to place yourself in that person's shoes? How can you know that people participating in porn are doing so willingly? The assumptions you are making and refusing to question is what allows you to remain deliberately ignorant and justifying abuse through porn. This is not about blame - it is about equal responsibility for which there is no escape or justification.

@annabrixthomsen Again, that's like asking me to put myself in the shoes of someone who has smoked cigarettes their whole life and gets cancer. The feeling of embarrassment is a foreseeable risk of being in a pornographic movie, and one I personally wouldn't commit to. Those who do participate in pornographic movies have to sign waivers and consent forms- if the producers do no possess aforementioned documents it would be a federal offense. All abuse is non-consensual.

@professorfoxtrot The only difference is that these are the only shoes they have to wear. Your comments reveal how self-centered our culture is. Most of these women come from broken homes where they have no father, and if they do he is a terrible role model of men. People in the sex industry know nothing else. If you read or listened to the testimonies of women who leave the industry, maybe it would broaden your perspective. But I don't expect you to do that. Wouldn't want to be in their shoes..

@professorfoxtrot It is no mystery the common results of delayed gratification across many topics in the known world, especially in learning to love a partner beyond sexual fulfillment from one another (which does not persist for an absolute lifetime). It is one of the main reasons of a usually preferably long testing period of a relationship without sex.

I find it alarming how the porn industry is warping the minds of not only men but also women. Younger and younger generations growing up with exposure to porn are begining to normalize the behaviors seen in these films. More specifically, it's warping what healthy intercourse between two loving partners should look like, making men feel inadequate about pleasing their partner and women lusting after exotic or fictional situations. It's unfortunate that society still does not address this problem

Great exposure of this topic which is related to the aspects that one does not want to 'see' the moment that we indulge into such images and believe it all to be honey over chips. I won't lie... as a man, it does sting when we are rejected by the real life women compared to the ones we forge in our fantasies... I often believe porn used to be man's shortcut around it or even to help them get the courage they needed... but it turns out that is no true. In reality, it makes men even more cowards than before.

The point of 'rejection' is self created, men and women fear each other instead of being direct about the situation at hand. That is able to be worked out within yourself through a process of realizing how it is that we tamper our ability to live and express due to fears. Yet, it's Not been our physical body determining our action to participate - it's us accepting the direction of our mind as feeling/emotional thinking energy, which we act as and then announce the 'experience' as real. I know on the surface it seems as though sex is the main point in porn, but I investigate these things within myself and it is resonantly layer as everyone either is or wants to participate in sex with someone whether a partner or strangers!
