I've heard about these cars. You have to put them into service once every 2 months or once every month because of the clutch or brakes or other important cars. Are these cars guaranteed by their producers? If they don't it's cheaper to buy a Dacia Logan or other car because these cars are guaranteed to work 3 years. In fact it might be cheaper to buy a Dacia Logan or Sandero or any other car anyway because of fuel consumption.

So many people are forgetting the brand name products they are using (nike, apple, sony) are already all made in china. To be honest, the country a product is made in has nothing to do with the worksmanship and quality of the product.

When Geely took over Volvo in early november 09 (the official announcement just came out), they fired a large amount (like 30-40%) of engineers dedicated to passive & active safety, while Volvo core capability and unique selling point is safety...
There is no doubt that with this cuts in the engineering force, Volvo cars will very soon become less and less competitive in terms of safety...

If Geely buys Volvo, they're going to disassemble the Volvo brand, which has far more prestige than Geely. So yeah, put the technology into a P.O.S. Geely. @fordorgnew: This is partly true. VCC still has an edge with regard to vehicle safety (it has always been strongly focused in safety since its creation), and VCC engineers are not gonna turn stupid just because of that take over.
But obviously, they'll have less means (R&D investments cuts implying less engineering workforce) and a bad leadership (I strongly doubt about GEELY tech. management capabilities), so they'll soon become uninteresting on the developed countries markets.

Chinese people creativity capabilities are strongly hindered by the brainwashing process executed by their authorities. I don't want to be mean at all, but this guys are just able to copy and paste stuff.
That works very well for low tech stuff such as toys or paintings, but not for automobiles and obviously not for higher tech. products.

Of course, it may be partly true. But the Chinese simply DO NOT have traditon and they STILL DO NOT understand its importance! We need to remember that it is the Americans who sold the VOLVO, i.e. another way of destroying your competition - first, you buy it, pretending that you will develop it and then sell to second-grade car fatory that makes absolute and total junk-cars!
One thing is for sure, I aint buying VOLVO at all!!!

Exactly my reasoning! I am SO sorry that the the world's leading safety company, i.e. VOLVO has been "burried". I liked the VOLVO cars very much. They were the safest cars because their engineers were leading the way of safety in so many areas but now... Geely needs at least 50 years, IMHO, to BEGIN making good cars. Copy and Paste is not the same as decades of experience!!!

I can understand the concern here, but am sure the chinese will work on these setbacks. they want to sell volvo to the chinese market. I can't see much problems cos there are hundreds of thousands of new engineers with talent coming out in China. give them time, they will be alright.

When Geely took over Volvo in early november 09 (the official announcement just came out), they fired a large amount (like 30-40%) of engineers dedicated to passive & active safety, while Volvo core capability and unique selling point is safety...
There is no doubt that with this cuts in the engineering force, Volvo cars will very soon become less and less competitive in terms of safety...

well, it will have setbacks with such new company. but look at toyota, one of the best cars in the world with their engineering fault on their cars. I wont ever buy a toyota. cos such a long company and high level of engineering shouldn't have let their cars go to market if they are not safe. i hear people have died by their mistake. can you forgive toyota? so geely give them time, they will be alright. but i cant see them becoming a popular car in the world anytime soon though.

If Geely buys Volvo, they're going to disassemble the Volvo brand, which has far more prestige than Geely. So yeah, put the technology into a P.O.S. Geely. Sacrifice design, quality, and prestige, and basically make cars that will still only sell in China. Because after all, Chinese cars can't get any worse, so any change is an improvement!
