  • The Continental gained a reputation as clumsy, slow, and nonathletic compared to the swift coordinated movement required to lift the bar "clean."

  • You are a beast for lifting this and especially going for that second attempt!

  • i would try and look for some Olympic Weightlifting training there they will teach you the proper technique to get that weight on your shoulders using less then half the energy your using there :) google it you will see what i am talking about :)

  • @SPAREnoEV1L ...he is doing a continental, not an oly lifting clean.

  • @SPAREnoEV1L The reason strongmen use this technique is because they usually have to lift an axle, not a typical plate loaded barbell. An axle is 1 solid piece and the weights can not roll. Look at Koklyaev, he can clean and jerk over 500lbs but can't even clean a sub-400lb axle in 1 motion cause it's just not possible.

  • Good try. That'sa lot of weight.

  • AWESOME

  • BEAST!

  • @sethblaylock. I understand the continemtal style of cleaning. I use it, also. I just saying in a comp you cannot let the bar or axle rest on your belt at all.

  • It really isn't a myth it is a very real part of human physiology. And I know who your talking about. It isn't that you can't have a lot of hypertrophy and still be flexible through the range of motion as in his case. The problem is most don't work flexibility as an integral part of their training. But the physical amount of muscle causing blockage in certain ranges of motion is a legitimate concern. Go to an Olympic lifting gym and ask about it

  • I feel like no one who has commented on here realizes that he's not some guy in a gym, he's competed in the World's Strongest Man finals more than once.

  • watch misha...

  • I don't deny that it is part of the technique, but for purposes other than simply doing what this guy just did, I would tell everyone not to do this (ever) unless you yourself are planning on competing in a strong man competition (local, regional whatever) where you know you will have to perform this particular lift. As for the press, alot of these guys are muscle bound. Thats not to say their not freak strong. But the classic jerk is the most efficient way to get the bar overhead.

  • @olympicstyles Muscle bound is a myth and late Bodybuilder/Weightlifter John C.Grimel proved it ,look for pics of him doing slpits and felxibility stunts as well.

  • @sethbaylock If im not mistaken Tom Platz is another great example of incredible flexibility. The dude could do full splits and had some of the best wheels of all time!

  • Strong!

  • First, Metallkongen, you deffinately "do not" want to stick your head out on your press as that tips your body foreward. Second, I don't know how you could see his legs for the press cause it wasn't on the vid, but wider legs would not help the press either. And the "dip" is more quad oriented not hip oriented. If I were to give any advice it would be towards the clean. Are you training for a particular sport or event? I can't believe that strong man allows the bar on the belt thing.

  • The continental clean is done with the bar resting on the belt. It's part of the technique. The continental clean was done by German lifters (i.e., the "continental" and press) in order to handle a maximum poundage in the clean and jerk. Some of them also liked to press instead of jerk.

  • @olympicstyles

The majority of the time, if the bar rests on the belt at all, the clean is disallowed. Most strongman (myself include) aim for a spot right under the xiphoid process.

  • @StrongmanTaylor dude this is the Continetal style of lifts not the Olympic style which uses a clean from the floor to the chest,he's doing the CONTINENTAL LIFCLEAN AND PRESS...digg the movements up the body the way he is doing si right for this STYLE OF LIFT.

  • @olympicstyles the proper from for a jerk is to poke the head forward dope. learn your shit, it centers the body as the weight stays directly over the body instead of forward and dropping it onto the floor.

  • almost m8

  • great clean and explode a little more with your hips gives you an extra push for the press

  • i grew up with this dude

  • thats impressive for sure

  • Your brute strength is unqueastionable; but you lack some technique in the overhead press. Try standing a little wider and get more drive from your legs through your hips. Also try to stick your head "forward" when pressing (underneath the bar), that`ll align the bar more with the center of your body. Also, practice dipping under the bar.

You`re a monster, and can overhead press a car with the right technique, I`m sure! Good luck and keep lifting, buddy!

  • @Metallkongen why are you telling somebody who's competed in the WSM how to lift?

  • @Metallkongen LOL ur giving advice to someone who competes in worlds strongest man sat behind a computer lmao.

  • good job

  • Impressive. You almost got it. Just one thing, though, in strongman you are not allowed to have the barbell resting on your belt during the lift.

  • um... yes you are that is a continental clean. Which is allowed in strongman.

  • wow.. that was soo fucking close! good job man

  • Close... still an impressive clean, bro!
