    .

  • what is the name of the outro song?

  • @kelvinpyaeko Barbra Streisand - In Trutina

  • @KyoHanjin thank you :)

  • What amazing vocalists! I agree with most comments. These guys (and Lady) got all of the vocal genetics and that's why most of us are just average! I just can't believe the sounds that come from each of them. And David fits well with this song (group!).

  • Bocelli gets my vote on this particular song. Beautiful chest tones.

  • pavarotti is the king of opera. I see him as equivalant to micheal jackson being the king of pop. Elvis to rock and roll. Hank williams to country music. ect.

  • I always love PaVAROTTI, HE'S ALWAYS BE MY FAVOURITE OPERA SINGER N I THINK, HE WAS THE BEST TENOR OPERA SINGER IN THE WORLD. NOW THAT HE'S GONE, BUT NEVER 4GOTTEN....REST IN PEACE PAVAROTTI, YOUR IN A BETTER PLACE.

  • I agreed; if i have to pick 1 winner; i will pick Pavarotti. but i think they all have an awesome voice..

  • David Phelps, no doubt, your face and voice are pure emotion. But, too I have a great appreciation to Pavarotti and Bocelli.

Nilton Otávio de Oliveira Gomes (Brazil)

  • It's interesting to hear the different styles, but my favorite will always be Luciano Pavarotti. I will always associate this song with him.

  • Andrea Bocelli and (i agree with a previous comment) Mario Lanza

  • Lucianno Pavarotti, come on, he was the best Opera singer of all decenies. Second Andrea Bocelli. Number 3 David Phelps and last Aretha, she has a strange voice for performing that kind of music?????

  • I love David Phelps and ...well everyone did a fantastic job, but there can only be one winner..and so I choose Pavarotti! His presence and emotion is a blast even through a screen in the past.. I love you man rip. Now David was very touching, but i've seen better performances of it by him. ARETHA!? thats wat i said at first, but then it was like =O .. very respectable 'Retha.. very respectable.. and as for the bocelli, he does have a nice voice, but if i had to choose the worst, it'd be him.

  • @char908 Pavarotti had the passion...see if you can find Jame Brown and Pavarotti singing This is a Man's World...watch the women singers...James Brown is very good, but when Pavarotti starts singing-the women actually swoon-have not seen that in a long, long time!

  • the last guy is new to me but he has such an amazing voice tat cuts into the heart...so powerful.

  • @bettyobed you've never heard of Pavarotti!?? ..well this is the way to discover him..on this song at least.

  • Luciano Pavorotti did the best job. he put the most feeling into the song.Andrea Bocelli is number two.David Phelps number 3 and Aretha Franklin came in 4th.Her Italian and power simply wasn't the greatest.

  • david phelps sang it with passion ang grace.. he always sing that way.. like no other.. but i appreciate all of those singers..

  • I listened to Aretha's version and I cringed to get thru it. Each artist sings what they feel in their heart. This is a love song. David just didn't get the passion for me. I love Andrea Bocelli but my heart goes with Luciano Pavarotti. He had the most passion and intensity singing to his love. His heart is breaking. She waits wondering who is her love while she gazes at the trembling stars. He must not tell who he is but she will know by his morning kiss.........they are both destined to die.

  • @BargainHunter8142 Mario Lanza's version wasn't posted. He was one of the best tenors ever but I'm partial to Luciano Pavarotti. I had the honor of attending his birthday celebration, in Pittsburgh, quite a few years ago and no one could touch this song. He owns it. Bocelli comes in a close second.

  • Depend on what you like. If you like a calm & gentle rendering of the score, David's your man. If you want fire, passion & intensity, then Pavarotti fits the bill.

  • David by far far and away

  • David Phelps got #1 - he is awesome! 2nd is Bocelli - he is good & professional, but lacks an interesting factor (other than he's blind), 3rd & 4th are Franklin & Pavarotti- theirs were terrible after the first two versions, I couldn't stand to watch either one of them all the way through.

  • David wins every time. He's the best tenor on EVERY song!

  • Tie for 1st: Phelps and Pavarotti 3rd place: Bocelli....Franklin, not even in the same league.

  • a young david phelps would have taken the crown. Unfortunately its old david, so 1. pavarotti 2. bocelli

  • Andrea Bocelli the best ever.

  • #1: David Phelps. I've loved his rendition since the first time I heard it, and I still haven't found anyone that can best him. #2: Andrea Bocelli. Has the voice of an angel. #3: Luciano Pavarotti. Found his interpretation too flat, to be honest. #4 Aretha Franklin. I'm sorry, but I couldn't even bring myself to finsih watching her video. She destroyed a song that deserves much more respect and care.

  • David Phelps, without question!!

  • We are dealing with different types of singers here. The two tenors are well trained voices and the music was beautiful. The singers were magnificent. Bocelli and Pavarotti showed their high training in their staunch singing of the piece. Franklin sort of souled it up but showed her singing aptitude as well. Phelps, in my opinion, is my favorite because he not only has a magnificent voice but showed a lot of stage and heart while he was singing, as well. I vote David Phelps.

  • nice to see different interpretations, all with their own charm. But a comparison would be unfair both to Franklin and Phelps. Their voices are great for their own purpose, but in this case, Bocelli and Pavarotti are superior by far.

  • Pavarotti hands down!

  • Most amazing,Ms Franklin hold her on singing opera....I love all of the singers....just wants more.

  • Well, for my money, and I love 'em all, Jussi Björling The wonderful Swedish tenor stand a little above the rest . But I love 'em all.

  • @thebaldchemist I'm agree...!

  • Pavarotti. Easy choice. Phelps, close second.

  • I heard that Aretha had a very short notice to perform here, just one day before, since the original performer, Pavarotti was sick. We can see that she didn't perform 100% here,

  • All but Aretha's were wonderful. Definitely not a good style for her.

  • THEY ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL. THEY HAVE DIFFERENT RENDITION. PHELPS MAKE IT SOUND SO EASY. ARETHA ROCKS IT. PAVAROTTI VERY EMOTIONAL AND BOCELLI IS COOL. WHAT CAN I SAY. THEY ARE ALL GIFTED.

  • Phelps wasn't going for purely operatic style (like Pavarotti or Bocelli), he intentionally put a pop spin on it.

I'd love to hear him do a strictly traditional rendition of it...I'm sure he would own it.

  • Davis Phelps, his voice and interpretation are awesome.

  • David, maravilla, emocion, entonacion excelente.

  • loved them all in their own way! although...not sure where Aretha was going with this one! haha. love her...but this just wasn't workin for her.

  • DAVID PHELPS is the best of them all

    seen him live he`s awsome

  • I liked them all! for different reasons, however. What I really liked the most was the little piece at the end - who was that? Sounds possibly like Aled Jones - enchanting, whoever it is.

  • There is a unique stage presence and voice climate in all the four voices shown in your video. All of them have done a great performance in their own way. That's what make music a variable universal language. Bravissimo! However, the only one that still pounding my heart and transport my mind, undoubtly, The King of Nessum Dorma, Luciano Pavarotti. Thank you for this precious gift of music...

  • Pavarotti has the total package. Emotion, pronunciation, consistent tone and superb performance. They all were amazing. I enjoyed them all. I had never heard Aretha sing like that, very sexy. I love Botticelli control and David Phelps makes it seem so easy, what a voice. Thanks

  • Luciano! The rest are just karaoke compared to him...

  • If you want to hear Pavarotti in a good studio recording, listen to "Caruso"

Phelps and the rest sound like little kids learning to sing next to that. Seriously, you can' t compare Pav's. He often sings against huge Orchestration, had a absolute pitch etc. There is no comparison, on his signature song. Phelps toyed with Nessun Dorma and made it sound ridiculous. If you want to hear someone do justice to the song, listen to Marc Martel Singing Nessun Dorma..

  • ARETHAAAAA!!!!!!

  • Ok... I absolutely LOVE David and Andrea... but you can't argue the fact that Pavarotti wins this hands down. As far as the criteria of musicality and tone I think it's a draw for second. Andrea wins for tone, and David wins for musicality (I could listen to David sing anything!). I'm still scratching my head trying to figure out how Aretha even made it into the competition. You might as well have included Snoop Doggy Dog for that matter.

  • I am still a fan of David Phelps and of course Bocelli

  • OMG I died twice! Pavarotti, Andrea and Aretha killed me!!!

  • Arethas rendition was awful. I don't understand why she was ever so popular. I cannot say I am a fan.

  • @BrandynFerShizzle I agree, she has a powerful voice, but it's not meant for something so technical. Also, her lack of knowledge of the Italian language plays a factor in her pronunciation .

  • I love David Phelps, but I have to say Pavarotti is #1; Andre Bocelli #2; David #3... and though she had great passion, I still prefer the others...

  • In my humble opinion jaja i'd say due to the gender of the song i'll vote in favor Pavarotti even though my favorite singer is David Phelps always! and so... 1 place to pavarotti 2nd to David Phelps and then to Andrea and that's it because i don't think Aretha belongs to this area!! Greetings from El Salvador!

  • Pavarotti is a legend

  • The gold standard is Pavarotti. Bocelli has the "headtone" mastered. Phelps shows the most "musicality" and emotion. Franklin tried to make opera into R&B. Didn't work at all. You should have included Jose Carreras as well.

  • David phelps rocks... best voice ever.

  • I DISLIKE IT!!! David Phelps wins HANDS DOWN or UP IN PRAISE

  • 1.) Luciano musicality and feeling

2.) Aretha the pure emotion of her version is hard to beat despite not being an opera singer I think she conveyed the songs meaning the best at least emotionally.

3.) Andrea honestly I like him as a singer but this song requires a deeper and less smooth voice in my opion his version just a tad bland.

4.) David he has a good voice but tbh his version lost too much of what the song ment and he was lacking the power at the end.

  • @FistThroughScreen yeah unfortunately (in this recording of him) he did not have make the ending but if you listen to another one of his nessun dorma you might change your mind

  • the best "bel canto" voices are definitely from Italy. Pure "manly" voices come from Pavarotti, then Andrea, and last but not least, David Phelps!

  • Love all of their unique performances. I don't see anything wrong with Aretha's spin on it. In fact I have 3 recordings. It's all in the eye of the beholder, I guess.

  • For all the people criticizing Aretha Franklin: I would love to see ANY OF YOU prepare and sing this song in 20 minuets and sing it as BEAUTIFULLY and ALL HER OWN! That is all :)

  • Comment removed

  • ugh. I didn't care for Aretha's version at all....she changed it up too much and it sounded odd rather than original

  • I rather like Marc Martel's version...No not classically trained, so I'm Not comparing, just commenting.

  • obviously David Phelps, He breathed life into the song

  • KYO HANJIN This was extremely interesting. Would it be possible however

to put sub titles in English for those of us who either do not understand

Italian or are like myself hard of hearing. Thank you! for posting this.

I believe all these singers to be incredable in their own way.

  • Andrea Bocelli: I can Do this

Luciano pavarotti: But this is my signature song you should let me do it besides I have a better set of lungs

David phelps: But I have a good rendition I wanna do it

Luciano Pavarotti: why don't you just leave it to the proffessionals

Aretha Franklin: I think it needs a little soul R.E.S.P.E.C.T

Luciano Pavarotti: ok ill say a little prayer for you.

lol Aretha franklin was surprising the other two were gd but pavarotti is legend nuff said

  • Phelps was a great singer. amazing, but you can't really feel his raw emotion. His intensity wasnt strong enough. Does he really want the Princess? You can definetly feel the emotion in Bocellia's . Soul is emotion meets sadness and love and Aretha put that into it Nessun Dorma, if only her voice didnt age she reall couldve owned it. Her's was amazing. However, this aria is Pavarotti's signature. One of the best renditions ever.

  • Pavarotti is the Best,"IL MAESTRO"...

  • There is no doubt Luciano and Andrea are classically trained opera singers. David is gifted and talented. They ALL sang the song the same. The way it always sounds when you hear it. It was the person that wasn't expected to sing it at all that delivered the most heart wrenching performance. She had no clue when she arrived at the Grammy's that she would be singing. She came to enjoy the show. Aretha is the Queen of Soul and she added soul to the Opera on this night. She did it her way!

  • I guess most of you who are commenting don't know the story of how Aretha came to sing this song at the Grammy's. Luciano Pavarotti was originally supposed to sing, but fell ill at the last minute and his doctors advised him not to sing. In order for the LIVE show to go on, 20 minutes prior to this part of the show, Aretha was asked to step in and sing the song. This was a fluke, and she aced it. She stepped in and sang it in HER style, not someone else's. That is what artists do.

  • David Phelps

  • people can sing this song but no one can sing it like luciano pavarotti

  • David is tops by far to me.

  • For me..... David Phelps is the best!!!

    Blessings!!!!

  • remember also that Pavorotti is the King of Opera and I think David is the King of contemporary opera...both guys a great in their style and voices

  • David is my favourite, the late Pavorotti is the best, Andrea is good, Aretha she is ok, all great artist..and I admire them all but I was wondering if Paul from Europe got talent should have been added in this list, he is just a normal mobile sales man and he also nail this song and went on winning the show...his version is viewed more that the Great Pavorotti himself..check it out...but David your the man!!

  • Put Jackie Evancho in this comparison

  • Uma pessoa nao tem cultura!!!

  • yes..my rating is as it has been done by inkedbear71:

    1. Pavarotti

    2. Bocelli

    3. Phelps

.. Aretha .... well done, but too far from Puccini ...

  • david is a southern gospel singer out of his league with all of these artists.

pavarotti is clearly the best tenor of this group but my favorite version is andrea bocelli's.

  • @flatonia David is not out of his league here. it might be something you havent heard him do, but he is classically trained and is awesome at this song

  • Aretha Franklin cannot sing this song, she does not belong in this group, she absolutely butchers it!!!

  • David foi incrível, Aretha acabou com a música e o Pavarotti Superou todos... Pavarotti é Pavarotti, não é?

  • Muzică de excepţie!

  • Beautiful...!!!! I thank GOD for their talents....!!!! DP IS THE BEST!!! He's definitely my favorite!!!! very down to earth, natural and spiritual...!!!!! love him...!!!! ;)

  • beautiful....!!! DP is the best!!!! natural, down to earth and very spiritual....!!!!

  • Well, my opinion:

Pavarotti on number one, because of the emotions and performance.

Bocelli on two, because there is a little less emotion.

Phelps on three, because there is not that much power into it, he simply sings it to easy

Aretha Franklin is clearly more in style of Whitney Houston or so, she should stay at her own style.

  • bocelli for sure, but don't discount pauul potts.

  • Hi everyone! This song is beautyfull and I know Luciano is the gratest opera singer but, David is one of my favorite singer and he nailed this song. He is unique and he have a style than anybody have. The oders are good but,David is the best in my opinion. God bless him always!

  • I love David's version, but LP's is the best of the opera music. Either way you cannot lose. Andrea's is good, but Aretha should stick to soul music where she is unmatched by any other.

  • Phelps is perhaps my favorite singer but NOBODY sings that song like Pavarotti. It's an aria - for opera - an Pavarotti was the best. Period. I'm not even an opera fan and when LP sings that song it moves me to tears. Phelps does it justice but for pure power and range LP reigns supreme!

  • @Robertitocrazy

I would choose David Phelps mainly because he is versatile. He can sing this aria and sound great but he can also sing pop songs and sound even better. Luciano and Bocceli can only sing opera and if they tried to sing pop they would be laughed at. This song, it just depends on what you like but overall talent im going with phelps

  • Andrea, David, Luciano, Aretha. You just DON'T add soul to opera, sorry.

  • aretha franklin? lol you should have put michael bolton's nessun dorma instead

  • watch?v=wPEG914GATk

No singer has come near this tenor, he still remains the last true tenor.

  • Valerie, no matter what, David is a POP singer, don't get me wrong, to me , David is the best VOICE, but hes not a real TENOR!!!!!!!!!!!

  • DAAAAVVVIIIDDDD PPPHHHEEELLLPPPSSSSSS!!

  • DAVID PHELPS...hands down!!!!

  • DAVID PHELPS...hands down!!!!

  • Please, People David is not a formal Clasic singer, (opera) , this is not fair, this "Aria" was compose for "Operatic Singers" You never going to compare "Frank Sinatra" vs "Pavarotti" understand? you compare "Placido vs Pavarotti"

  • David WAS classically trained!

  • David WAS classically trained!

  • Type in, "Nessun Dorma" By David Phelps (2010)...

This version is better! David takes it, hands down!

  • Had David Phelps' performance been in a concert hall working with a live orchestra and chorus, he would have aced it in my opinion. Its about the accompaniment and the setting as much as it is about the singer. We made our decisions based on the whole package, not on the singer alone, whether we realize it or not.

  • david is definately one of the great tenors and he gives a great interpretation but to compare these great voices is like comparing the most exquisic iceceam flavors or sunsets you just enjoy them. aretha is out of her orbit but i enjoyed hearing the words. but a great voice she still is.

  • What a fun video - thank you! I am no music expert, but I'd challenge you to find someone who loves music more *~))

Each of these singers brings their own interpretation to their performance, but if I were to choose the most classic performance, it would be Pavarotti's. I'm trying not to be biased as I think David Phelps is one of the top ten singers of our time, but I honestly choose his performance second. Bocelli melts my heart on some songs, but not this one. Kudos to Aretha for her try!

  • I think Paul Potts has them all beat! =)

  • @jdsings4U Yes Paul should have been there also his feeling when he sings this song is goosepimple inspiring.

  • I believe that Pavarotti definitely felt it the most....and that he and David Phelps tied with the musicality of it....they both have an ease to singing...you never have to worry about it they will hit the note or have enough breath....they are both wonderful singers. David HAS been classically trained so for those who says he doesn't sound like opera just has his other songs in mind. He belongs in most genres of music - he's VERY diverse! Kudos to Aretha for TRYING something out of her norm!

  • for me: Pavarotti-phelps-bocelli and franklin

honestly, Pavarotti is cum from an ather world! ocelli

phelps is really amazing, really!, but he does not sounds like opera!

bocelli is a wrong tenor! it's great in this tune but not good in all ...I prefer him in pop!

and Franklin is not at her place!

  • David was amazing, yes, but Pavarotti takes it & if he was alive, he would have still taken it. Hats off to Andrea as well...

  • Phelps, Bocelli, and Pavarotti were amazing of course...but wow Franklin was absolutely terrible. She really had no business being in the comparison. This song does always make me think of Pavarotti...and he's classic. Bocelli I always think of as the heir to Pavarotti....and he is simply amazing. But I like David Phelps version of this song probably the most. I have a lot of his music....his voice is incredible.

  • Considering Bocelli and Pavarotti were born in Italy and speak the native language, I'd say David's stands up rather well just not above them. Aretha!?!? Really?!?

  • David and andrea is the best!!!!!!

  • I admire Aretha for leaving her comfort zone and going into a new genere.

  • Aretha Franklin has no business being in this group. She is WAY outclassed.

  • pavarotti supreme imprecionat

  • I love phelps and he did a good job , not enough emotion . pavoratti is awesome in every respect , his voice is supreme in this genre. none compares

  • ummm..."Nessun Dorma" is an OPERA aria. Let the opera singers do it! I love Phelps and Franklin, but in their respective genres.

  • phelps

  • David Phelps

  • david es mas versatil

  • I Love David, But Pavarotti owns it! They just have two different styles. Love everything else David does!!!!

  • David Phelps is the best!

  • No one has ever sung this better than Pavarotti.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • pavaratti owns it

  • Last high note:

    David - 13 sec

    Andrea - 14 sec

    Aretha - 5 sec

    Luciano - 15 sec

  • David Phelps the best:)

    foarte tare;;)

  • I have to give it to David hes ny favorite gospel singer EVER!!!....but I think for not being the original singer of it I think he nailed it on the head...i love how he sings it..HE AWESOME!! I would love to meet him someday...

  • I am unsure of the meaning of comparing vocalists who are so different from each other. I expect that there are songs that each can perform better than the other vocalists. An extreme example of this situation is Elvis Presley - there are few songs that he could perform well, but I don't think there are many vocalists who can match his rendition of "In the Garden" .

  • aretha definitely doesnt belong in this group, she butchered it. Phelps puts so much emotion into it and hits the notes with ease while pavarotti is definitely the best opera singer there is, but by who sounds the best I'd give it to David, then Pavarotti, then Andrea, then Aretha needs to stick to her type of music.

  • @cap06g David foi incrível, Aretha acabou com a música e o Pavarotti Superou todos... Pavarotti é Pavarotti, não é?

  • pavarotti sang that song best of all!

  • perhaps Phelps would do better if he did it more operatic, however, this is Pav's.

  • none can tough pavarotti... phelps is the best gospel tenor on the planet today.... bocelli is solid... franklin - this is out of her realm...

  • david posea la mejor voz masculina que he escuchado en mi vida, pero pienso que esta cancion le queda mejor a luciano pavarotti.

  • David Phelps is my gospel hero...but no one stands compared to Pavarotti.

  • andrea bocelli forever

  • This song IS Luciano Pavarotti's - he owns this song for SURE and has for years - no one is like this master orator!! I would personally say David Phelps is my personal favorite next (if he had a full orchestra and choir behind him it would have been a very different sound).

Honestly, to compare singers that are accomplished is quite difficult when they each have very distinct sounds. Luciano could never have sung a "pop" song - it just wasn't in his makeup.

  • ...having said that Aretha is obviously very versatile and David Phelps is as well, where Andrea Bocelli has a very specific type of voice.

Each of them have a unique gift that is very natural and time certainly develops that gift. They are all wonderful : )

Of course my personal favorite is David Phelps - I'd like to see anyone else sing "He's Alive" like David does. Brings tears to my eyes every single time.

  • awful except for pav. bocelli is ok

  • David Phelps

  • David Phelps is the greatest vocalist in the world.

  • Until you understand why Aretha Franklin changed "lips" to "heart," you're not going to understand why her's was the best interpretation, IMO. And, only married people are supposed to be using that channel of communication, if you get my drift! Luciano Pavarotti had a voice like thunder. During his Vinceros!, all I can do is sit and be quiet as if there was an actual thunderstorm. He really sang his guts out when he was living.

  • You're comparing apples to oranges, here. Aretha Franklin isn't even a tenor!

Opera = tmbks (Too many buzzkillers, or too many Buzz Killingtons!)

  • Comment removed

  • @pmjhns You can't put Aretha Franklin in with tenors! What she did at the 1998 Grammys was not even planned. That was a fluke, so to speak. It was unplanned, unrehearsed - like, an accident, really. She normally sings it falsetto, I believe. That's what I read somewhere. I'm no expert. I don't know voice ranges. Comparing people to each other really kills my buzz! Hand-to-the-head! Ew-w-w-w-w!

  • @pmjhns It might but not been planned but it was in no way an accident. This was sheer brilliance. And Aretha doesn't normally sing in falsetto, especially back in the 90's.

  • david phelps ...

  • DAVID PHELPS IS GREAT!!!

  • @beny26 estoy de acuerdo contigo... me gusta David Phelps.

  • @bconsitt

well that's not a bad age at all, the voice is a day to day thing...Renee Fleming said there's 7 good singing days in a year, and we gotta get through the rest with good technique.

  • @bconsitt

Well in soul singing it is an acceptable performance, though I've heard far better from Aretha, in this performance she sounds too tired for some reason, don't know if it's the age or what.
