Personally I'd prefer Land of Hope & Glory as the English national anthem - just like in the Commonwealth Games. Should be played for the English football team instead of the anthem of the UK - which pretty much says it all really.
I have to agree with TheBritishWatcher, I dont not believe the United Kingdom should be split up, but should become a Federal, Democratic and Seculer Republic as proposed by Tony Benn.
"Scotland contributes more into westminster than it should, yet it gets half of it's own money back,"That is simply not true, perhaps you should look at the figures before you make such incorrect claims?
I have the figures in front of me and i will happily share them with you if you want. They clearly show that Scotland gets its fair share of expenditure and it is pretty in line with overall revenue from Scotland, even when taking into account north sea oil and gas revenues.
Northern Ireland is a deeply divided province. The majority of people remain unionists although over recent decades we have seen more southern irish move to Northern Ireland which has increased the amount of republicans there. The unionists do need to take urgent action to address their problems there, the DUP and UUP must end their hostility to each other and work together for the union.
But what ever happens to Northern Ireland in the long term, it will be part of the UK for decades yet. :)
Glad you agree with me on keeping the United Kingdom but abolish the monarchy??? That would just be a terrible thing to do. This country as a republic is simply horrible to imagine.
@TheBritishWatcher Scotland, England and Wales would all have there own national parliaments and the Westminster Parliament would become the Federal Parliament of the Commonwealth.
The Royal Family would retire and Buckingham Palace would become the Presidential residence.
A federal United Kingdom may have to happen at some point, however going down that route opens up some problems of its own and is very costly. England does not need its own parliament.
@TheBritishWatcher All Parliaments would have fixed terms and a President would be elected for a fixed term this would all be codified into a federal Constitution, there would also be a charter of rights based on the current Human Rights Act and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, The Republic of Ireland would be offered to become part of this Commonwealth if they so wished.
Having fixed term parliaments is fine, i do not see why we need to become a republic for that. U mention Ireland joining if they wish, i think removing the monarchy would make it more likely that Northern Irealnd left our union and joined the republic.
For decades the conflict in the north has been between Republicans and unionists. It would be a huge victory to the republican cause if we all became republicans. It would lead to demoralised unionists and republicans saying theyr half way there
This Video is excellent and describes the Discrimination (Racial) The English face from the UK Gov and Brussells.
The BritishWatcher comments that we are stronger as a united Kingdom but does not seem to realise that the inequality of devolution has divide the UK and it's in trouble, An English Parliament would save it and us.
Her Majesty's Government is going to hold a review into the West lothian question. The conservative partry did intend to introduce "English votes for English laws" which may be the outcome of the review.
, Creating a whole new parliament just for England would be extremely expensive and create more problems than it solves. Let us not forget that 80% of the seats in the UK parliament, i can only think of one example where Scottish MPs voted on an English matter and impacted on the result.
Do not even try to compare the Empire and imperialism to unionism. The United Kingdom has been a country for over 300 years and you are living in a dream world if you think unionists will allow separatists to destroy our nation.
It is those seeking to go back 300 years to create an independent England and Scotland that are trying to live in the past.

I was born in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. That is my country, England is just where i live,
Ones first loyalty should be to our United Kingdom. We are stronger united than divided.

The English Democrats are a unionist party.

if they are a unionist party they should be making grossly misleading claims in the attempt to damage the union.

Federalism is merely another form of governing.

@TheBritishWatcher, Don't talk pish now, the age of unionism is over just like the age of empire, time to get out of the past...
