  • such a beautiful movie...

  • This movie reminds of family. 20 years ago I read the book The Color Purple.

I thought I lost the book 20 years ago. 20 years later the same book finds me.

  • Mister lookin' like the Folgers man LOL

  • iN COMPLETE UTTER TEARS RIGHT NOW......

  • Good movie, I dont think I would watch it again though

  • danny glover ain't such a bad man after all...eyy?

  • And look how both Celie and Nettie are both wearing purple.

  • The ending. It's always about the ending. I remember being so happy that Celie got her happy ending. Always one of my favorites. And now people see where Tyler Perry gets his inspiration from. Because he was treated so badly as a kid growing up, and he could relate to the Celie character. And now look where he is. He overcame it all. This movie makes you believe in yourself, and never giving up the one thing that matters most. Your faith. Thank you so so so much for uploading. Never tired of it.

  • I watched this twice..something that we must see and lesson for all of us!.. life is beautiful if we understand each other needs, love, being wise.

  • You do not have a heart if you watch this without crying.

  • Such a beautiful ending! ♥

  • I cry every time... Such a powerful movie. Whoopie & Oprah were amazing, just amazing...

  • i love the way she screams "Nettie!" and my God, i lose it when she hugs her children and they cry in her arms. i can't take it!

  • ALL OF THE FEELINGS IN THIS ENDING OH MY GOD.

  • i believe i was the age of 6 or 7 when i seen my mom watching this movie, i would peak around the corner because i wanted to watch it but my daddy wouldnt allow us to watch movies that had the bad language, so my brothers and i were home while my parents went to the grocery store and we watched it. ever since i seen it i fell in love with it. one thing this movie will bring to ur attention is everyone deserves love no matter who u are. i am so glad i found this movie on youtube.

  • -___- why is madea goes to jail in my sugestion box not even on the same level

  • Mister was a shithead for years but I always liked the end where he did right by Celie at least once.

  • Aww, thank you so much for uploading this movie. You helped me so much, especially w/ my weekend homework in English ( kay sir. PAUL) haha :). This movie is so GOOD and touching :).

    (III-2)

  • Aww, thank you so much for uploading this movie. You helped me so much, especially w/ my weekend homework in English ( kay sir. PAUL) haha :). This movie is so GOOD and touching :).

    (hanggang dito binibida eh xD)

  • There's a huge Director's mistake to this ending. Adam and Oliva were kids in America before they left to Africa, so they knew English really good by then! Besides, Samuel, Corrine and Nettie never stopped speaking English to Celie's kids, so why is it that they suddenly seem foreign to their 1st language when they meet their mother face to face? LOL!

Great movie, one of the best endings of all time. Mr passing by the reunited sisters under the beautiful sunset...Wow--Brilliant ending.

  • tears cannot stop.....

  • This is true love in its purest form.

  • I teared up a bit.

Good movie with a happy ending :)

  • OMG I can watch this movie over and over and I cry everytime I love this movie.

  • This movie makes me tear up, and I'm a grown man!

  • As a Christian and a musician the most powerful part was when Shug was inspired to sing when she heard the music from the church and how her voice was heard inside the church when she was more than a mile away. For me this spoke to the fact that she was STILL a child of God even though her self righteous daddy pastor had rejected her.

  • I was so mad when I erased this off my laptop and sooooooo happy when i found it on here I love this movie thanx for the upload

  • Mista found some heart

  • Me encanta esta pelicula la vi completita waoo q recuerdos

  • This was one of the best movies ive ever seen it made me cry, laugh, and it changed me completely. It made me realize it aint only me its never only about me. It makes me think what would it be like to have a life like that. Thank you for uploading this it truly changed me and again Thank you sooo much <3

  • @vampiregurl1435 you're very welcome.

  • When her son said Mama, I cried a river.

  • This film was unforgettable but what was truly wonderful was the book the amazing lovely book.

I bet this changed the entire world when it came to theaters in 1985.

    I love it!

  • why does nettie look the same

  • What a wonderful movie! I saw this for the first time with my mother when I was 10 or 11 years old and had forgotten most of it. The thing I remember most though is cuddling with my mom and trying to read the subtitles fast enough (I’m Swedish) and my mother snuffling next to me. So glad I took the time to see it now and that it was here for me to see.

  • I just finished watching this movie and i thank u ever so much for posting this movie about this courageous young girl in society back them. Id have to say this is the best movie i have ever seen from me crying to me smiling. Im so happy u posted u thank u again . I hope more people can watch this movie and experience how she went from abuse to being everything she cud have wished for. Thank u again and godbless u

  • One of the best films ever made...ever. I saw this when I was a kid years ago in the theater in the 80s...never appreciated it as much as now. Thank you for uploading it. Tears, laughter and the best ending of a film that I can ever remember. :)

  • I can't stop crying!!

  • beautiful movie thanks for uploading I loved it ! (:

  • After all these years this movie still brings me to tears. The Color Purple did not get the reconition or awards that it deserved and thats a shame.

  • such a great great GREAT movie! so much to learn from, and all the acting is amazing! Thank you so much!

  • damnit.... my tissue is all shredded and wet from the church scene.

  • This was an amazing/ powerful movie that brought tears to my eyes, thank you for posting it :)

  • Is it bad when I saw Shug looking at Mister, and Mister looking from afar, he was smiling because he actually did right by Celie? I cried?! Mind you...I'm only 17 but seen this movie...at least 20 times! And read the book. Regardless, that is just SO BEAUTIFUL! Best movie EVER! A must see for kids in this Generation. It teaches so many lessons to women AND men. All races alike. :D

  • @Rentheadnumber1 Thank you so much for posting. I love this movie, have not seen in in years. I made my night. <3

  • @Rentheadnumber1 Girl, I'm proud of you for watching the right movies at this age where opinions and attitudes are formed.

  • Every struggle and hardship Celie has lived through is made up in a matter of minutes-the definition of true strength. Amazing movie-just amazing.

  • i have seen this movie 3 times, not including the video on youtube.I was deeply touched by the sonf God is trying to tell you something and would live to record it.This movie sas to me : "I had a hard life, but i made it. If I made it, you can too. At the end Love always survives." I never had a sister, was by myself. If anyone askes how i made it threw, I would say : I have myself.God did not give me a good life, but he gave me the strength, pure heart and courage to survive.

  • HOPE TO HAVE A FAMILY OF MY OWN SOON TO LOVE.

  • Everytime I see this scene, I cry

  • God I haven't seen this movie in years and it still makes me cry and appreciate what it was all about

  • How this movie won no oscars is beyond me... Also why the hell was Danny Glover not nominated or won for any film awards for this amazing performance as one of the most hated roles in a film... Not only that either Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah Winfery or Margaret Avery should have won an oscar... Absolutley disgusting this film won 0 oscars

  • Albert (Mister) paid for all their return yes. He owned up to his mistakes and made everything right elvaelvirababe..watch the movie..

  • Wait was Albert sort of responsible for their renunion?

  • Thank you for uploading this beautiful movie!!!

  • this ending has me choking back tears

  • Tears in unmeasurable quantity fall down my face each time I watch this.

  • omg. my living room is flooded with tears :(

  • You know... I'm 22 this movie is older then I am and I can say that THIS movie is one of my all time favorites! It made me cry, it made me laugh, it breaks me watching it but everytime I'm watching it, I know why! This movie teaches you SO much about life. How life can be, how you can change life by just open your mouth, it's amazing it's totaly... there are no words for it. I watched that movie like hundred times and it never gets old to me NEVER! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH for uploading it!

  • this a really inspiring.. just simple, beautiful ever aspect of this movie challenges me to confront each and ever one of my emotions ... just a masterpiece

  • I am so happy and grateful that you have uploaded the movie. At that time I did not understand this film, unfortunately. But now I am 18 years old and can finally understand this and I must say this film is great!

    PS: HEY Sister ~

Sister, you've been on my mind ♥

  • the two parts i cried at:

Celie and Nettie being torn apart

    Celie and Nettie reuniting

  • @ammarignosila I'm the same way! I went from watching the seperation scene to the reunion scene and bawled my eyes out!

  • omgg when she screamed nettie I swear I could feel all of her anguish in that just one yell my skin crawled. I saw this movie when i was 7 am 21 today it still touches me. Am from Africa. This movie is EPIC

  • @sugathickchick I watched this many many years ago i mustve been 12 or something (I'm 21 now). The reunion scene is amazing and her scream is the most amazing movie climax i've seen in a looong time.. As said before; this movie (and many of the actors) deserve more praise then they received..

I hope to read the book this summer if i can find it..

  • This i would consider falling under an "epic film" category.

  • @bb62g It's a drama, not an 'epic film.' This isn't Lord of the frickin Rings!

  • @RogueRotting360 Your opinion fool. What would you classify gone with the wind or the ten commandments????

  • @bb62g Gone With The Wind's an historical drama and Ten Commandments is an historical epic. This is just a drama.

  • @RogueRotting360 who freaking cares this movie was and IS EPIC!!!

  • These novels teach a lot about family and in many cases the black women played a very important role in the formation of great black leaders of post-war II era.

  • Such a moving film. Thank you.

  • She got her production company name from spelling Oprah backwards, HARPO, but it also happens to be a character in the original novel.

  • I had never heard of this movie till only a couple of days ago. Its wonderful. Thanks heaps for uploading this film. i watched all 15 parts and here i am at 1.38 in the morning saying thanks. lol GREAT MOVIE.

On another note- Did Orprah get her name HARPO productions from this film or did Steven Speilberg just use it in his film? Just curious.

  • @msrobyn82 it was a huge coincidence!! she already had harpo studios b4 she found out about the character in the movie. one of the reasons she took the part

  • I bet celie was telling her son's wife, I don't know what the hell your saying but Welcome to the family anyways!

  • this film is a must watch recommended beautiful film..love it this should be a winner and its in my tops thank you for the uploads

  • thanks so much for uploading the whole thing:)

  • cry everytime at this scene

  • Such an amazing movie. Made me cry a lil.

  • For all of you who have only watched the movie and never read the book, READ THE BOOK! Although the movie is amazing it doesn't compare to the beauty and flow of the book. I read the book first and it is a book that changes and heals the soul.

  • I swear, I can watch the end of this movie at any time and just weep! So beautiful!

  • Albert finally made right.

  • I cry EVERYTIME I WATCH THIS MOVIE!!!

  • Seeing Celie so overwhelmed with joy and love make my eyes water every time

  • OMY GOSHH!!! tASHIE IS SPEAKING SWAHILI!!! AND I CAN UNDERSTAND HER COS IM FROM KENYA!!!! aaahhh

  • Damnit, I'm BAWLING!! Lol...great movie, this was my first time watching it! I can't wait to read the book! :-)

  • Aww, I cried when I saw Celie running up to her sister in the field... :-)

  • Celia had a hard life from the beginning, but now she is so much better! :D

  • @lalaLibre - thank you for taking the time to showcase this movie. I have seen it before but it touches my heart everytime. I stumbled on this by accident and looking at the particulary scenes is heart wrenching, aching, rewarding and soothing all at the same time. Much love to you!

  • such an amazing movieeee

  • not to many films are made like this anymore.. i always cry at the end of this.

  • I Nearly cry.

  • @arinkromas I actually did :(

  • the son talking to her made me cry :)

  • There is only one word for this movie: FANTASTIC!

  • Why do they kiss on the lips?

  • @notmyeverything

In most cultures kissing on lips is absolutely normals in family. It's not like a french kiss, involving the tongue, just touching the lips in sign of true love.

  • @gigiontube Thank you :) I've never thought of that.

  • Wow, I haven't cried watching a movie in like 7 years. Beautiful movie- the different types of love taught me a lot. In the end, I'm more hopeful about everything. Thank you for uploading this.

  • lol I cried so much

  • You know what I just noticed? Both Celie, and her sister Nettie have purple on. :) <3 I love this movie.... :*)

  • @marnie7kamikazi7girl Well technically they all still live in the same area, so they're never too far away from each other. Interesting to note though that, in the book, Celie and Mister do actually make amends, and Celie forgives him. Mister even goes as far as to actually propose again to Celie in an effort to make things right, but Celie of course refuses and tells him they should just stick to being friends. The scene was in fact shot for the film but didn't make it into the final cut.

  • Amazing xxx

  • For the 12 people that voted they didn't like it, you don't know what a good movie is!!!

  • I have seen this movie so many times I know all the word to the entire thing, yet everytime she screams 'Nettie' I sob. I'm talking super, uncontrolable sobbing...maybe it is because I have a sister that I am close to and could not imagine being without her for that amout of time...this movie is timeless. Thanks so much for this upload

  • I never get tired of seeing this movie and I cry EVERY TIME...this was such a good book and movie. Thank you for posting.

  • Awww the way he said "Momma =D" Was so cuuuuuuute!

  • Everything happens for a reason.

  • tears streaming down my face EVERY SINGLE TIME!!

  • I watched the whole thing and with all the horrible things that happened, I didn't cry until she was reunited with her children. :')

  • my eyes have disobeyed me. my eyes shed tears against my orders.

  • Such a beautiful movie

The book was amazingly written, too! If anyone is interested in the story in deeper detail, I strongly recommend. :) Thanks so much for uploading! The reunion scene tore me apart. *cries*

  • I've watched this movie billions of time, and it still makes me cry at this scene... So beautiful...

  • In this scene, C's ex boyfriend gives her finally a chance at life, to live her life, to be with her family, to not allow her being a Mother to hurt by not having her children with her, her sister, he finally did the right thing that was fair instead of sentencing her to pain, death, I like in the scene where C says something like 'Until you do right by me everything in your life will fail or fall' ... 'What's already been done to me, is done to you', no doubt they are in the same boat.

  • aren't you glad shug and celie didn't steal the $ earlier in the movie?

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you so much for loading this film! I actually ran across it accidentally and saw there were 15 parts. I just watched ALL of them. I think I last saw this movie about 20 years ago. And I was admittedly too young then to appreciate what a moving, touching story it is. So much of it is about struggle, awakening, overcoming adversity and acceptance. I saw this today as if seeing it for the first time. I cried, I laughed, I was enlightened but most of all I was encouraged !!

    Thanks again!

  • @cpboyd1960

Thank you for your wonderful comment. It's the very reason I uploaded this wonderful movie, so more people would be able to experience all the feelings you are describing.

    Take care.

  • @cpboyd1960 i couldn't agree more this movie gets me every time i watch it!

  • I really don't cry at movies, but this one gets me every time.

  • thanx u thanx u thanx u for posting this! best film ever! xxxx

  • did anybody else notice in the credits that laurence fishburne was credited as "larry"? XD

  • At this point in the movie, is where I lose it. You see and feel what Celie has gone thru, and see then, you see that car coming...The colorful clothing flaps in the wind. And Celie puts on her glasses, and walks towards them. Right then, you heart sinks, as you know its her sister. But you wait for Celie to realize it. At this point, tears start to well up. But, then as she cries out, "Nettie!" My tears start flowing and I start sobbing! Such a happy, heartwrenching ending! LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!

  • this was an AMAZING movie i absolutely love it! im like bawling right now (happy tears!)

  • @sarahbeary333 me to :( lol

  • Thx for putting this up. My friends r reading the book n wer Like u havnt seen it, watch it!! So i did and they did absolutly wonderful. Mr. was so mean n all they crap he put Ceelie thru WOW but this has to b my TOP 10 FAV MOVIES EVER. - God Bless !

  • And cue the tears.

  • Somebody stop me crying. Please.

  • Anyone who does NOT get at minimum a little choked up by the end of this movie is emotionally disconnected from humanity and probably shouldn't ever become a parent.

  • I don't cry over movies. But I totally cried at this part and the part with Suga and her dad at the church.

  • Anyway who cares about those Oscar, look where is Whoopi and Oprah now...

  • Wow that movie is in my top 5 favorite ever!!! They should have won all the Oscar!!! Freakin academy bullshit! So f***in stock up!

  • i am wondering why oprah winfrey looks soooo old in this movie while harpo s still a young boy?? and after 8 years in jail she has grey hair and stuff, how come??

  • @missdaisymarina

Women in those days had a very hard life and I feel they look older in the movie because of this.

Also spending 8 years in jail being abused will give you enough trauma to make you age even more beyond your years.

    Hope I answered your question.

  • @LalaLibre even still...to me when you smile from the bottom of your heart with tears you look as beautiful as an angel no matter how old you are and look...

  • however when you smile from the bottom of your heart with tears of joy, you look like an angel no matter how old you are or look...btw...whoopi has very pretty eyes

  • @LalaLibre yes you did, thanks a lot ! Now its clear to me :)

  • @missdaisymarina It's THE MAKEUP. that's why the movie's been nominated for best makeup.

  • Thank you so much for putting up this movie! Mahalo nui loa *

  • this is one of the best films ever...it should have won more awards..it has been over 20 years that this movie came out and I still cry through it

  • Without question this film should've won the best picture award for 1985. Out of Africa was okay, but "The Color Purple" was beyond incredible.

  • Okay lets all stop and appreciate the subtleties that make these 3 mins fantastic. The way Celie walks towards her family is magical. Walking through all of her friends and family as if to summarize the journey she took to get there. Then the moment of redemption for Albert at the end. No words were spoken, but the way him and Shug looked said it all

  • The two sisters playing in the sunset is one of the best credit scenes in a film ever! Very touching!

  • I can't believe it is a true story wow and oprah is in it woooow!

  • My name should have been in the ending credits! I was the baby in the store!Olivia!:)

  • @mzclaudia1 were u really.!:o

  • @seanmelia123 yes i was! I was 6 months. It was filmed in my home town> Anson and Union County N.Carolina! I hate how they didn't put the baby names in the credits like they do now-a-days! Olivia was a star role; even though i couldnt talk i was Whoopi's daughter! I want some recognition and thats it. I want people to know who that baby was in the store!

  • @mzclaudia1 Wow that's truly amazing!

I was always wondering if any of the actors in the movie would find this on Youtube and now someone has!

Herewith you receive all due credit for your wonderful performance as Olivia!!!!

  • @LalaLibre Thank You!

  • @mzclaudia1 WOW! You were really the baby in the store?? How cool!!!!

  • @CrownJewel32 Yes i am that fat baby. Several people in my fam was in the movie....but i was the star. :) It was filmed in my hometown.

  • @mzclaudia1 That's amazing!!! I know you stay getting paid for that scene! LOL

  • A highly imaginative film score. I always thought it was composed by John Williams who often scores Spielbergs films. But it's actually by Quincy Jones; extraordinary!

  • thank you.
