can someone please explain this belay system to me. Sheldon is lower then a beginner so they're obviously just on top rope, I notice they clip rather then tie to the harness, but why do they appear to be clipping to a loop in the middle of the rope. Was this just a goof by the producers or are there gyms that actually use this kind of set up?

Sheldon is just supposed to be like a "Super-Nerd" whos extremely socially awkward and everything is just science to him. I actually know a few people who take a lot of things very literally but they dont have any form of autism. Sheldons personality is for comedic purposes only. :) Gotta love him.
