@ladalowet1 I don't think there are other versions. It's nice to know that someone from where you come from appreciates music like this. Not very common.
@FRANK1FM look up the version that country artist Gary Alan did.. he didnt change the way the lyrics were sung or anything like that, the melody is just a little more sped up. But is great!
@ranjansantra thank you for your kind comment! but i wouldn't go anywhere as far as that - the original was and remains one of the best recordings ever :)
actually max randomly played an aminro to b and del asked "what was that" n max responded " an a minor to b" and del said follow me n came up with the intro n it went from there
What a great tribute to this icon of our youth, in the late 50s and early 60s. Rock and Roll was never the same after this time period. Thanks for the great tribute and thank you Del Shannon for this master piece!

I love this song, in 1974 when I was only 9 Runaway was very popular in my country. I don't really understand why if the song was released in 1961 got to be so popular in Uruguay in 74.... Has there been any other extremily successful version?
Thank you for your kind words, I'm glad you like this song because it is also one of my favourites. As for your question, I can't really find a connection with 1974. I know Del did record a version for the series Crime Story with different lyrics in 1986 and that gave it a new lease of life.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING SO KIND!!! :-) You answer everybody's messages!!! That's very nice of you!! I'll try to ask any aged DJ down here about why it was so successful down here in the mid 60's. So, when are you planning to come down here to perform live? :-)
Like you, my friend, I was brought up to show courtesy, and it's doubly pleasing to come across someone who shares the same values.
As for performing - you are too kind! Having enjoyed past visits to South America (Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Chile) I know I would enjoy visiting Uruguay - only as a tourist of course :)
What can I say!! As I got off the plane after 7 years in vietnam a buddy was playing this song. As it did then it still brings tears to my eyes today only for different reasons today. ABSOLUTELY GREAT Pequinito!!!!!
his tune on the cbs night show (live with David Letterman) back in 1986 I believe was also very good....done live. he put lot's of energy into that tune. No doubt, all his tunes are done the only way he knows how.....that's all 1st class

My mother passed away in 1988. She was extremely close to Del. He sang at her memorial. He was troubled, obviously. At my mom's memorial, before he sang, he said, "Betty used to say to me, she'd say, 'Charles you must get on with your life...' This song is for sweet Betty." It was beautiful & heartbreaking at the same time. I'd like to think he might not have taken the path he took, had she still been alive to love & support him...Red
You're very welcome. You know, he looked exactly the same as when he was younger. I have him singing at her memorial on cassette tape. I'm not sure how to transfer it, 'cause I'd love to post it in tribute to my Mom and to Del...take care! Warmly, Red
