  • Let me rephrase my question. It's the counting of the 40 stitches to put the marker for the armholes that I'm having trouble with. I keep counting, but once I reach 40 I end up pinning (I'm using a straight pin as my marker) a different stitch than I counted previously. I'm wondering if there is an easier way to count them. But again, do the 2 HDC increase in the same stitch in the row below count as 2 or 1 stitch?

  • The part where we're supposed to place a marker at 40 stitches across. I'm getting more than 40 stitches where I'm supposed to make it about halfway through my work. Now, when you say "count the stitches" do you also mean the 2 HDC in every 3rd stitch counts as 2 or 1 stitch?

  • Hey Theresa!!! I would like to make this dress for my newborn niece. Can you tell me what the size will be using the F hook (i have the G hook/i don't have a F hook)? What size for the baby? by the time she gets the dress she will probably be a month old, so i need to know what size baby this dress will turn out to be. Thank you bunches!!!!

  • @crochetbabe829

At Walmart they're selling hooks from D to K for $7.99 in one packet (Bose is the company on the label). I don't know if the price went up, but that's how much I got my crochet hooks for. =)

  • Beautiful pattern.

  • That's what I thought too. But I think you meant to say back loop hdc. Also, Theresa, you should show the completed pattern in the beginning of the video, and also let us know what part of the dress you are working on, like for instance when you skipped all those stitches, that you were making the armholes.

  • I love you!!! Really! After 2 attempts i finally made a dress for my baby girl and i am a beginner!!! You are such a great teacher and your tutorials are sooooooo good!!! Thank you so much, you made me very happy :)

  • @MPkanaki You are doing great to complete this one as a beginner. It can be challenging. I appreciate the comment.

  • Hey Everyone & Theresa!I just noticed when re-watching this video that you're actually doing a "ribbed" hdc stitch across you're base rows of the dress. Somehow you missed letting us know you're supposed to be doing a back post HDC stitches. This is just my FYI. Thanks again for posting another fantastic project for us to learn/do!!! I hope you'll do a video on how to make some simple adult or child size socks. You rock!

All good christmas wishes to you and yours

    Angela

  • Very good teaching, just one suggestion for the next time? If you use white yarn it would be easier to see with a dark back ground. :o) Keep up the teaching I've learned a lot from you! Thank you!!!

  • I am bit confused in row 2. does the chain 2 counts as a stitch? and it looks like you did 1 hdc in the first two stitches and then did 2 hdc in the third one :S when I do that my stitch count doesn't match up and I end up with 1 hdc in the last three stitches.

  • hi

i have a 3.5mm hook and thin fancy yarn what changes should i make to make it as 20 inc in chest.

    thank u

    reena

  • I truly love this Video. I made the dress for a baby in yellow. I now need to make one for a 12 month. To make it bigger or smaller, should I change the hook size up and down and/or measure the child's chest? Then how do I convert the number of beginning chainless hdc's to start with if using the chest size? I want to make a red & white dress and matching baby jane's. I will send a picture.

  • So, Row 2: 1 HDC in the 3rd stitch, than 1 HDC in the next stitch, than 2 HDC in the next stitch after....

I'm using Baby Co-ordinates White yarn( with a strand of shimmery thread intertwined in the entire yarn itself) it's making my project look a bit busy. Do you recommend using plain white yarn or any color Baby-type yarn for the dress?

  • @AnimeGirl1723 You can use any yarn that you want to use.

  • @tjw1963

okay, thanks. Just wanted to make sure. =)

  • thank you so much great video some of the stitches were a little unclear but i figured it out thank you !!! its a really beautiful dress

  • Hello Dear Teresa! Thank you so much for videos! Just started crocheting, made puff stitch baby hat, and baby hat with 2 pompoms (blue and white one) came out great! I love this solomon"s knot dress, my daughter is 2 yrs old, and I've been trying to modify the size, (did 50 chainles hdc and continued increases just like in the video)but the top part of the dress coming out too long and twisted... Could you please please please, explain how to make the dress size 2 yrs?thank you in advance!

  • Thank you for all of your wonderful videos! : ) I am so excited to learn new things. I was wondering if you have other tutorials of this beautiful stitch? I am having a hard time seeing the details of the stitch in this video due to the light colored background and the light colored yarn....they seem to blend together for me. Thank you!

  • @mom2jodasesh I do have two tutorials. You can search with keywords "Solomon's Knot Crochet Geek" in the youtube search and they will come up.

  • I have a picture of a bolero-style sweater for girl. The sweater has a round shape. I'd like to send it for a tutorial. This sweater is knitted with two needles.

How I can sent the picture to you?

    thanks

  • Hi. I've increased the beginning foundation to 60 and the hook size to h in order to make a larger size. Can you offer any advice as to how to calculate where the armholes markers should be? I made the newborn version a few years ago but I'm not home to look and see the proportions of the smaller one. I'm out of town and crocheting to pass the time on this never-ending car trip :-) any advice you can offer would be very appreciated.

  • Hi Teresa,

Can you advise other sizes than up to 6 month please? I am interested in 1-2 years size if possible please.

    many thanks,

    Caroline

  • @crochet83 The whole dress would need modified

  • So you should have a roll of half double and then start round 1 on pattern ? If I am right, I am not to sure and I wanted to know before I start dress.

    Thank you

    Kara

  • for what age is this dress?

  • @xavthine Up to 6 months.

  • hola por favor dime como hago ese vistidito en talla 5, me encanto pero no mesale..

told me how do that in size 4T, te lo agradeceria mucho, si lo haces en tutorial no te tardes

  • Teresa,

Would you please share the pattern of the crochet rose that you put on the baby dress. I have been crocheting this dress for many years and love the finishing touch of the rose.

    Thanks,

  • HI Teresa, I'm a beginner and started off with this dress cos i was just sooo inspired to start crocheting when i stumbled upon ur pattern online!!

Dress turns out pretty but my salomon's knots were somehow quite 'holey', so m not sure if the baby wearing it would catch cold easily! =D

U've mentioned d dress works great too with other crochet pattern for the skirting. Could u recommend any so I could look it up in ur other tutorial video?

Thank u so much & keep up d really great job!!

  • how much yarn is required to make this dress?

  • @foxymama2005 I will estimate 250-300 yards should be plenty

  • also, do you put the marker in the 40th or 41st stitch?

  • if you chain 42 instead of doing the chainless hdc, then would you start in the 2nd chain?

  • what size hook would i need to use to make this dress for size 3T

  • @specialCraftsandmore The whole patterns is going to need modified to make it larger.

  • @specialCraftsandmore If you want to make a bigger size, Multiply the stitches by 2,3, or 4. Like instead of 15 chains you would have 30 chains for twice the size. Does that help?

  • @pink11116 TY

  • @specialCraftsandmore I pretty sure that means thank you so you are very welcome ^_^*

  • thank you but it is wool or cotton

  • @natalexia17 It is an acrylic blend.

  • @tjw1963 can u crochet this up in double knit wool? if so, how much do u need to complete the dress and would it alter the size at all?? thanku

  • Comment removed

  • what kind of yarn you use

  • @natalexia17 I am using 3-ply baby yarn

  • i've been trying to de this same dress but with a different size with No success

i know you said that we should increase the 5 HDC at the arms area but i also want to make the neck hole a little bigger .. i tried to increase the beginning 40 HDC to 70 HDC but failed miserably .. Got any ideas for me ?

  • i love this dress but i cant follow you from starting the solomons knot stage. your using white wool and have a white background so cant see and you hind where you insert the hook with your fingers so i cant see any of the process :( i would love to give this pattern a go. do you have other videos on this stitch? x

  • I ask you to explain the latter part of the dress in detail and Wabbits

The one I'm doing so because the beautiful and Michl Levi

  • I came out with like 100 stiches after row 6 :s

  • Do I have to do the chainless part, would it be possible for me to chain 40 and do the second row?

  • Can I do a ch instead

  • i tried to make it, and i really love the finished product!

however if u could have a vedio on something other than a solmens knot it would be apriciated as i don't get this stitch for some reason

  • its gr8 to have u make this baby dress as others only display what they have made

however if u could have a vedio on something other than a solomens knot it would be appriciated as i dont get this stitch for some reason

  • wow..this is beautiful...but mine dint turn out as perfect as yours...cud you please upload a baby dress with more closer stitches...maybe like puff stiticehs? that will be very helpful for my baby due in May :)

  • @lekshmi1012 I need to work through another pattern. The puff stitch would be really pretty

  • @tjw1963 Will really apprecaite it if you would make a baby dress with Puff stitch :) thanks

  • Do you think you could get around to making an adult sweater video, i would like to start making one for my mom :)

  • Guess what! :) I did it! I have finished the dress today! :) It's not as perfect as yours, but it looks so sweet! I look at it and can't believe I made it! :)

I used a 4mm hook (you used a 3,75?) and added some pink edging.. A rose as well.. My daughter loves it! She is 4 but tiny, so the dress fits her. I do notice it's baby size, but unless I make her another one, she wants to wear this one! :)

    Thank you! God bless you!

    Emma

  • This is wonderful! I had never heard of a chainless 1/2 double crochet, so you've opened my world up. I can't count the number of times that I've had to chain, tie off and start again because of not knowing that stitch. Thank you so much for that. The dress is absolute beautiful!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @AnastasiaRa I sent you a playlist with the beginner crochet stitches

  • Comment removed

  • @AnastasiaRa This is not a beginner project or a project that I would recommend to a beginner

  • I had more of a diffiicult time following you this time can't figure out why? Kinda got lost around attaching the sleeves & correct count. So used to you you slowing ur vids down when ur doing multiple things. I would really luv it if you could please include some spring/summer baby bonnets, dresses, botties.

Thanks!!! Ur AWSOME!!! I'll get it eventually :-)

  • If i wanted to do this but not using the foundation stitch, would i chain 40 and then do a double crochet in each and then at the end chain 2?

  • aww beautiful!! Im gonna try to make this for my little sweetheart, hope I finish it untill she is born! Or untill she is 3 months old! hehe

  • @Muzettte I bet you will get it done in time! Congratulations!!

  • @tjw1963 Thank you :)) I can't wait!

  • THANK YOU, THANK YOU ,THANK YOU FOR MAKING TIME TO SHEAR THIS WITH US, GOD BLESS.

  • can I make the bottom half with puff stiches?

  • @Angelriddle1 Yes you can

  • @tjw1963 thanks

  • Teressa you are perfect, i admire your work. I wanna find you on facebook.

  • @pchaila My Facebook page address is posted on my profile.

  • is this designed for a 12 month old?

  • @valeriepowers Approximately 3-6 months old.

  • beautiful! Teresa, you're a genius!

  • Thx for your reply, I still have my training wheels on when it comes to crochet

and sizing, I wonder if I used to strans together and a larger hook if that will take take care of the varibles?

  • @craftyladydi It will make the dress larger but there still will be some modification and trial and error getting it to the size you need. You and I could crochet with the same hook and yarn, and the project may turn out a different size. Some people crochet tight and other crochet loose.

  • Hi Teresa, Love your videos, I am able to make a lot of your projects just by watching you, you are the best !!! I do have a Q, trying not to repeat what you were already asked... My grandbaby is large she measures 21 " around the chest and weighs close to 25 lbs @ 7 mths old.

I have 2- 3 ply yarns, a # 3 light by Bernat. If I use a G hook, will that make the size I need to fit her, and will 2 skeins be enough? please respond as soon as you can, I want to make the dress for Easter, Thx! Di

  • @craftyladydi I would not know if it will fit her or not. There are to many variables. You are going to be doing some modification and trial and error getting it to fit.

  • what kind of yarn baby. ? yarn or cotton thread?

  • @mecca115able yarn

  • Hello Theresa,

  • Sorry. I meant, how many half double chainless stitch will I have to do for a 18-24 year old? Thanks

  • @aliatony You can try a larger crochet hook to make a larger size.

  • Hi how many half double channe

  • This is beautiful...I recently finished one for my niece who will be arriving at the end of the month. I had decided to change the solomans knot to a V stitch and it turned out beautiful. I also added a few crochet roses on some longer single crochet ends and threaded it so it ties in the back :) I love your work and started crocheting as a young girl but didn't know how to do anything. A few weeks ago I watched a video on how to crochet baby booties from you and it all started there!

  • @Blackeyesasma You would need to give me an exact time code for what you are talking about.

  • @tjw1963 at min 5 befor making the to hand holes

  • I need this pattern to fit a 3t little girl and cant seem to get it correct please help

  • Theresa can you recommend an alternate stitch hor this dress. I have tried several times and cannot master the solomons knot

  • Thanks for your tutorial--between this video and the written pattern on your blog, I didn't have to wonder if I was doing it correctly! The only suggestion I would have for this video is that it would have been easier to see your work if the background had not been the same color as the yarn you were working with. Again, thanks!

  • Can not see this stitch(solomon's knot) can not get it when to put it between because can not see it because you cover with your left hands

  • This dress is beautiful! I'm wondering what the gauge is so I can make sure I'm using the right hook size?

  • how many stiches should we increase to make it fit to a girl age of 10 ....please help

  • I dont see it under video response

  • did u get my video response?

  • @kristinel4christ I do remember approving a video response from you.

  • Thank you for your reply. I went ahead and tried the Solomon's Knot this morning when I wasn't so tired and I did it!!!

I'm still going to watch for a revision as I like the look of the other stitches more. Thank you!! Between you and Mikeyssmail, I've really grown as a crocheter!

  • How do you "work in fullness and increase stitches"?

I'm not going to even attempt to make the Soloman's Knot. Waay too much for me right now. LOL I know the SC, DC and now the HDC thanks to you! I'd be interested in either of those stitches please!! I don't want to have to undo the top of the dress that I've already done. Thank you!!

  • @NatashaVistrand I am keeping a revision of this in mind for a future tutorial.

  • I tried to make this cute baby dress. It was turning out to be like yours until i reached the main part consisting of solomon's knot. The problem is, the frock looks like an umbrella cut frock, not like yours which is a perfect A cut shape ; starting from small top part and then spreading out .

  • I love this video too I made this dress.... but I would like to try another one ... would you mind to show us how to crochet .... another kind of dress........... please please please.... you are a great teacher.....

  • what flower are u using?

  • now i just need to learn how to make a biaper cover maybe you can do a video on one.

  • aww Teresa, just finished makin d dress and its so cute......cant wait to see my nice in it. she shud be here in November. will try to make a video response. i had a slight problem, instead of the Solomons knot bit to grow in length it grew wide. so the bottom is kind of flared and its a bit short but i love d outcome..

  • I am tring to make this lol when done I post video response hope I did it right It will take me awhile to do it kinda hard and different but will finish it tom. the rest of it :)
