I have been listening to PJ Harvey since 1993 and I haven't loved an album of hers as much since the Dance Hall at Louse Point/Is This Desire era. This is art, folks.
Does Rob Ellis play on this one? It doesn't sound interesting enough to be him. PJ is very good and I love her from afar, but her music is at its best when he is involved. Or so it seems to me.
@dano9008 No. She hasn't worked with him live since the Uh Huh Her tour in 2005, and he's featured in a dvd recording of that tour in 2006. Since then they seem to have parted company, musically.
Not only is this latest album by PJ Harvey not only great, it is her best, most deeply realized and mature work to date. It is now much more than merely music. Clearly, she is not one of us.
@OnlyVideoGuyOnEarth That is the problem for people discovering the record after the Mercury prize. But when it came in the charts, it was a big surprise and for pj followers the certitude it was a very important record. We could'nt expect it would be so acclaimed...
Althought this all about ENGLAND (I live in SCOTLAND)
she still is showing how their history of the beautiful landscape has been tainted by rule and dictorial rights over the landscape.... we all keep our surroundings sacred and so does PJ....XXXXXXX. to her
i wish there was any german musician who has her size and effort to sing about germany :( u better not let her out of england.. i wont let her go back :)
whatever industries are subject to sell outs in Britain ,because nobody... neither goverment , the so called upper 10000 nor the "royals" care, the best pop songs were ,are and will be made for ever in Britain.greatings from germany
The trumpet is a nice touch ... don't get too hung up on musical perfection here ... this song, this album, is a piece of art ... the trumpet fits in with the concept. And think about it, this song, a nice peaceful dream pop song interrupted by a war trumpet charge. Isn't that what war does ... interrupt our peace?
The symbolism with the tree at the start and end of this clip is really powerful. I hope it's moves others and much as it impacted me and they become conscience of mankinds wrongdoings. For the land and the Planet it is on is not ours to distroy ,rape or plunder. It is sacred...
I hate this "incessant trumpet reveille sounds" in your song. It would be much better without it. Anyways, it is a great song as well as the whole album.
Come on, man. That's the "hook" of the song! The first time I heard it on the radio I thought some pop-up opened on my PC, and I couldn't get what was going on. The second time I recognized the song by it, and from there on it just is the thing I'm waiting for every time I hear the song.
12? You mean there are still 8 to come? I can't wait! You truly have made this new album even more enjoyable and I thank you. The imagery you have used has me watching every second. Something I can't say about any video in a very long time. Tell Polly to please come back to TX!!!
This is really good.

I think this record will be popular in 100 years from now. In fact, convinced it will. A genius of a record, maybe not yet realised.

it is the best rock alternative album of the year because music sucked this year. rap was okay but rock sucked

7 people came here, expecting the best album of the year, and were kind of disappointed. I can completely sympathise.

Most over rated album this year, however the music isn't bad it's just not great. She sings about England and all the minnions chant ART.

Not incessant but sarcastic reveille. It adds a depth of meaning to the song that it would lack otherwise.
