Spooky how quiet and ordered everyone is, but when you compare it to somewhere like the UK where everyone's noisey, rude and pushing you over I can see the appeal :D
Cell phones are banned in North Korea. Toward the end of this video you see a guy with a cell phone putting it up to his ear. This is a propaganda piece for sure.
I guess you're a westerner, how did you get into Pyongyang? I thought you needed special permission and you get watched or maybe its not as paranoid as I'm lead to believe
I don't know what the big deal is about how bad the DPRK is. Looks to me like a typical commute akin to one in any country in Europe or the Western Hemisphere, and the people have the same disgruntled faces I see on everybody's kisser during the morning commute in the NYC Subway. Nothing different really!
Dude, I think the average North Korean missing five inches on his South Korean counterpart should tell you how dire the situation is there. Please don't use a one minute YouTube video as a guidepost to an understanding of an entire society. Did you also know that only the elites live in Pyongyang? And that only a fraction of those living in Pyongyang can even afford subway tolls which are actually substantially lower than world averages?
Would you say that these people travelling on the underground, are actors?
Please see how they are committed to one single objective, and this is, going out, without talking to anybody. just going straight away to the exit. Very strange.
I don't believe the people on the metro were there for our benefit. We watched hundreds of people and rode on the metro ourselves. People acted "unnaturally" only when they noticed a group of foreigners on the platform snapping pictures of them. Some people then became camera-shy.
It's true that the North Korean government wishes to limit what foreigners see and how much they interact with ordinary people there. And I know the two stations we saw were the most ornate. Still, I'm not sure the other stations are necessarily in a bad state. I've seen photos and they simply look less fancy.
I bet its better then Sydneys train system what a bloody joke and prob one 100th of the price...

I really hope to visit Pyongyang before the fall of communism there which will eventually no doubt happen. Just because of fascination with the place.
Is it really still illegal for locals to make eye contact with foreigners?

@Mahocky No it's not. Stop listening to fairy tales.

those trains were used in East Berlin in the 80s

No, West Berlin.
The train you see in this video is the (D) Dora class, which was produced and used mainly in W. Berlin.
The (G) Gisela class was used in East Berlin.

Westerners can visit North Korea, but they must go on group tours scheduled by the North Koreans. And you do get watched.

No cell phone, I looked closely.

how did you manage to be a tourist in north korea? watching this clip is really chilling.. its like seeing south korea frozen in the 60s.
also do you think people were nervous about getting in trouble for being in pictures? ex if the pictures became exposed etc.

It is the final station of this metro lines. All passengers have to leave.
Passengers starting their trip at this station, leave from the other platform.
