Just wonder how many people here know that the sole motivation for Ida Tarbell publishing her anti Standard Oil slur piece was that her brother ran the Pure Oil Company? That little fact seems to be left out of the history books for some reason.
The "family tree" chart that Chevron put out needs some updating for the last few mergers. Exxon/Mobil, Chevron/Texaco, Conoco/Phillips/76. Several pieces not from Standard.
we haven't got Exxon Oil here in Switzerland. Migrol(Swiss Oil) and very little Filling station like Shell, Esso and BP. But we haven't got Exxon, Total or all the others.
"Private company" is actually not correct. They are a public company, since before the days of Esso. BTW in Europe, the 'Exxon' was never adopted, they're still 'Esso.'
the corrupt Rockefeller family of the 19th century were like most of his peers money drove them they didn't care about the 1000's of businesses they destroyed, the workers they abused or the public they gouged.. the wealth building of a handful of families in the US was seen more as a competition to be the richest person in the country at any price to others.
You sound like a democrat political hack marxist that can't stand what a company which built the success of Texas for years and built careers and invented products that all society has benefited. Phony green jobs built on that "global" hoax will fail and bankrupt America!
u sound like a right wingnut that doesn't have 2 brain cells to rub together so u need somebody like the corporate tools to tell u what to think..not knowing anything about these corporation..too bad u work against ur own interest to benefit the few and the elite who's only interest is their own power and wealth..u r a success as one of their sheeple.. good luck with that
I live on a 30,000 acre XOM oil and gas lease in South Texas. I have a youtube channel, webpage and blog so the whole world can enjoy watching what a great company Exxon is. There is about 2,000,000 acres of old Exxon leases in South Texas. Water full of BTEX, clusters of kids with Leukemia. Seems like lately politiicians are wising up to the Green Job opportunity and the trillions it's going to cost to clean it up.
Let me tell you something, Exxon was the life blood and careers of many who were privileged
to work for a caring and warm, yes warm company, which built the careers of many a coal mining Pennsylvanians who came to Linden, NJ without high school diplomasand put their kids thru college. And the benefits were excellent, and taxes in Linden low becuase of Exxon. I know, I retired from Exxon in Linden, NJ and I was a conservative native of Newark and Irvington & the EWR riot.
Monopolies that take use bad business practices to destroy healthy competition and then advantage of public interest are the reason that antitrust laws exist, proving that such laws are such a good idea -- and we need our government to exercise those antitrust laws to break apart corporations that have gotten corrupt with abuses of power concentrated in the hands of the few.
Did you people know that the earth cannot sustain the present population without oil? Billions will die of hunger when it runs out. There is nothing that can replace oil as a cheap form of energy. Is everyone too stupid to understand this or do you not care that your children are going to starve to death in the near future. Oil production is now less than demand and there is no magic process to get more. Biofuels won't do it, solar can't be made into fertilzer, get it?
At the moment, this is true -- and it will take a breakthrough such as controlled nuclear fusion to change this fact. In the meantime, we're living on borrowed time, and the waning end of the Peak Oil curve will see that petroleum based fuels will no longer be cheap as the supply dwindles and the demand increases. This is the law of diminishing returns that has brought down so many empires in the past, and we will yet live to see if history repeats itself or if technology finds us a way out.
The video is incorrect on this point: ExxonMobile is not the largest private company. Cargill or Kosh probably is. ExxonMobile is the worlds largest PUBLIC company. Public: as in you and I can own shares. In fact, I do. I own enough shares, in fact, that the dividends they pay completely offset my yearly fuel bill (and then some). This is nothing but socialist propaganda.
You are thanking the man for his contributions to the economy? You must be very rich to think that. Oil is a dead end economy and causes 90 percent of the problems we have, grab a brain.
dislike this video. lets all ruin it :)

We understand this. But soon we will need to get off of oil.
Nuclear, Solar, Geothermal. Corn, Sugar Cane, tidal, and wind power are the best options.
The US is transferring a ton of money overseas, which is not helping our economy.

Saudi Arabia, Inc. is the Largest Producer of Oil and the anticapitalists (socialists) can only complain about Standard Oil/ExxonMobil.
Exxon produces large profits because it is a large corporation. Do the simple math for understnding.
Thank you John D. Rockefeller for your contributions to the US economy.

Exxon only makes 8% profit, and only makes some much money due to inflation
