Cmon how abt the kid using the Harmon w/o the stem? I bow to the 10 yr old kid though. Im 24 and have trouble getting over the double F as in octave above F in the top of the staff (not F above Double C) god I wish though!
And so, this wonderful note- the double high C has led to other great advances in modern trumpeteering such as the double high D.
It was an evolution that was inevitable, because a trumpet double high C is just a double high Bb in concert pitch. Nobody cares about a double high Bb, do they?
So in order to maintain face as the super heroes of modern day music, trumpet high note aficionados needed to progress to the double high D- concert double high C.... Now that really has a ring to it!!!
I DONT LIKE HIGH NOTES BCUZ THEY R NOT MUSIC! MUSIC MUST B A CERTAIN WAY BCUZ I SED SO! IF IT DOESNT MATCH *MY* DEFINITION OF MUSIC IT ISN'T MUSIC LOLOLOL!
Ahhh, music snobs; trying to take away the art of music since the beginning of time.
You must not have bothered to see his vid "The Secret of Lead Trumpet Playing." It's hilarious! Rather backs up what I said about the high note vid being satirical. Anyway, this conversation is wasting my time, as I have a lot of music to play. Enjoy the screaming; there's certainly no shortage of it on YouTube.
pinch press and pray right? and yes, ouch. its way different when your hitting them troughout hour long gigs, Arturo and Maynard, ok. But yes, quite impressive.
@rdangelo Yeah, actually it is pretty amusing. I play in a concert band next to some teenage players, and they're always squeaking high notes out before and after practice. Tone sucks big time, but hey, they got the notes, right? (trying in impress the hottie in the clarinet section, guess). Cheers.
@crystallinentity iIrelevant. But why play at all if it isn't musical? I mean, hello, isn't that the point of playing an instrument?? Well let's see, if it's not "supposed" to be musical then what IS is supposed to be? Ego inflation would be my guess.
@bixntram It's SUPPOSED to be a collection of trumpet players screaming the famous double C. Which is what it is, by the way.(TITLE??) I don't get how you kee bringing up ego, since the guy that made this video obviously isn't all the 2354 people in it lol. So, are you saying he's trying to bolster all their egos? Sounds strange to me. Of course their original videos may have been posted for ego. Being able to play so high is quite an accomplishment. They are merely showing that accomplishment.
@crystallinentity I think we have a misunderstanding here. I'm not criticizing the video, which is great! I'm grateful to spiroagnu for making it because it shows what big egos, all these guys have, who look so smug and satisfied just because they hit a double whatever. Too many trumpet players out there get obsessed with high notes but again, it ain't music. It's like a pianist or a guitarist showing off only with a lotta fast runs. Great chops, but where's the music?
@bixntram So if there was a video of some guy making a 100 foot basketball shot, you would comment "great shot, but wheres the basketball game?" You're missing the point.
@crystallinentity What point am I missing, pray tell? Spiruagnu obviously put this together as a satire, but I don't think you got that. Anyway, yes, screaming double whatevers is a great accomplishment; wish I could do it to. Great trumpet playing? Yes! Great music? No. Now, I guy making a 100-foot basketball shot just in the course of practicing would be impressive. But a guy making a 100-foot shot in the heat of a game? That would be breath-taking. See the difference?
@bixntram Oh god... YES IN THE HEAT OF THE GAME WOULD BE MORE IMPRESSIVE. NO SHIT. LOL.
Showing a video of the shot by itself is a video showing a feat. Making a video of a double c by itself is a video of a feat. Not music. A feat. YES a video of you playing it in a song is more impressive, but that's not what they wanted to show you. They just wanted to show you that they could play the note. Same as someone who would make a video of just one basketball shot to just show you that feat.
@crystallinentity Certainly that was the intent of the individual players when they each made their videos. But why do you suppose spiroagnu strung them all together like this if not to show how ridiculous they look and sound? Don't you get that?
Spiroagnu, what say you if you're reading this commentary on your video?
@bixntram LOL. Ridiculous? As in a bad way? You sound pretty jealous man.
What were his interests in making this video? Perhaps you should check out his other videos and get a clue. Something tells me he doesn't think of these people in such a negative fashion as you do.
@crystallinentity Well, certainly I'm envious. If I could scream like that I'd no doubt get more gigs. Still, it ultimately comes down to what you have to say musically. That's why Miles (in his early days), with a lot less range, was a greater musician than Maynard ever was. You should listen to them both side by side some time. Or listen to Lee Morgan and Maynard side by side. It's quite revealing. Anyway, good luck with it.
@bixntram You still don't get it. No shit range doesn't make you a good musician. No more than making a 100 foot jump shot makes you a good basketball player. However, they are both impressive feats by themselves. The videos feature the feat, not the game or the music.
Besides, most of those players in the video have LOTS of videos up playing these high notes musically. Many of them are well known professional players as well.
wow. this saddens me. none were from gigs from what i could tell. its one thing screamin a dubba C in ur room and another to scream one to a crowd. people should post themselves performing if they want to prove themselves
That was cool man, I was looking for my clip but thank goodness u didn't find it because it would be quit wimpy next to these monsters on your vid. You are truly a bad ass, i love your star spangled clip the most still

It just accentuates the absurdity in these double C videos. Makes you wonder, why would anyone post a video of themselves playing a single high note on the trumpet????
Except for a couple of them: the guy who put a clock against the camera and the dude screaming with the harmon (?!). They had body. The rest...were squeeks. Bleh. ;D But still fun.
Funny !!! I was always surprised that so many trumpet players are obsessed by dubba-C. Sure, some of them are really gifted, have really impressive range and large good sound... But playing a single dubba-C to show on "You Tube" (for the "complete world") you able to play this note is pretty "nacissistic".
