And so, this wonderful note- the double high C has led to other great advances in modern trumpeteering such as the double high D.

It was an evolution that was inevitable, because a trumpet double high C is just a double high Bb in concert pitch. Nobody cares about a double high Bb, do they?

So in order to maintain face as the super heroes of modern day music, trumpet high note aficionados needed to progress to the double high D- concert double high C.... Now that really has a ring to it!!!

I'm grateful to spiroagnu for making it because it shows what big egos, all these guys have, who look so smug and satisfied just because they hit a double whatever. Too many trumpet players out there get obsessed with high notes but again, it ain't music.  It's like a pianist or a guitarist showing off only with a lotta fast runs. Great chops, but where's the music?

Showing a video of the shot by itself is a video showing a feat. Making a video of a double c by itself is a video of a feat. Not music. A feat. YES a video of you playing it in a song is more impressive, but that's not what they wanted to show you. They just wanted to show you that they could play the note. Same as someone who would make a video of just one basketball shot to just show you that feat.

@crystallinentity Well, certainly I'm envious. If I could scream like that I'd no doubt get more gigs. Still, it ultimately comes down to what you have to say musically. That's why Miles (in his early days), with a lot less range, was a greater musician than Maynard ever was. You should listen to them both side by side some time. Or listen to Lee Morgan and Maynard side by side. It's quite revealing. Anyway, good luck with it.

@bixntram You still don't get it. No shit range doesn't make you a good musician. No more than making a 100 foot jump shot makes you a good basketball player. However, they are both impressive feats by themselves. The videos feature the feat, not the game or the music.

Besides, most of those players in the video have LOTS of videos up playing these high notes musically. Many of them are well known professional players as well.

Funny !!! I was always surprised that so many trumpet players are obsessed by dubba-C. Sure, some of them are really gifted, have really impressive range and large good sound... But playing a single dubba-C to show on "You Tube" (for the "complete world") you able to play this note is pretty "nacissistic".
