Such a great comic performance. Even from the start, the way she says "Good afternoon Professor (slight pause) Higgins" and becomes pleased with herself to momentary distraction for properly pronouncing the "H" is perfectly hilarious.
Now Fi, a rather chirpy member of the team with whom I get along like a house on fire, today we were discussing how her voice has deepened – not that it’s changed since I’ve known her – but apparently she’d once sounded like a chipmunk. She knows my feline fiction (cat stories) better than anybody, and now I’m dying to go up to her and say in Eliza’s refined, ladylike tones, “My cat would do the radio if you was recorded!” I just don’t know how it would be taken …
I like role-playing. The world is such a confusing and complex mass of paralinguistic and prosodic features (facial expressions and body language, vocal intonations etc...) that it becomes difficult to remain consistent in how I use them anyhow. Lately I've been mimicking members of Additional Support while I've been at college, and they laughed out loud at their 'reflections'.
It's funny because Audrey Hepburn never actually spoke this way! LOL Her natural speaking voice was like that of Eliza at the end of the movie. The way she talks here sounds so hilarious and more like Carrol Burnett
Along with all the experiments that Eliza goes through, this is my favourite scene because of the way she's forcing her voice out, it's hysterical. She gives Parker from Thunderbirds a run for his money. :p
"Well if I was doing it proper, what was you sniggering at?"

As much as I love Audrey Hepburn, I have to admit I preferred Wendy Hiller as Eliza Doolittle in Pygmalion, 1938.

I do know if I am proper. Last year, my 90 year old mother was shot in her head with a 9.
Please be so kind as to go fuck yourself.
