continue. You know why things never change that bennefits the people of this so called great nation. Politicians are idiots we know that. But weak and pathetic people like you believe every fucking thing you hear from the media and some prick that runs for public service. So really its partly your fault. Politicians, voters and Corporations. Your fucking fault.
Weather your a Democrate or a Republican your fucking idiots. Politicians in Washington had fucked up this nation since the beginning. So our country is fucked. No matter what you do its fucked. "We tell the Iranians: This is where we think those weapons are, you need to let our inspectors in there. If they dont let us in, just blow the place up. - Peter Schiff November 19, 2009
Your right about that, but you have to admit he was dead on about the the housing market and the mismanagement of money by Beneke and his cronnies. :-)
@AtlasShruggery Judging from your username you clearly have a bone to pick and love to troll. This fact alone discredits you, but I'll continue: Some economists did predict the housing bubble... most of the Austrian school economists saw it coming from a mile away.
And gold will easily surpass $5000/ounce in the future. It's almost guaranteed as long as the US government continues to debase its currency. Once people flee the dollar en masse, they will put their trust in gold.
Not at all. Cheney would prefer a limited scale undeclared war that involves long term occupation and lends itself to massive government contracts to the "civilian" companies. This is the guaranteed result when you have a marriage of state with economics as your namesake thoroughly explains. Does Peter Schiff advocate such a marriage?
They've figured out how to get more money from the average citizen... let's watch and see how it plays itself out. Personally, I think we all know the ending of this story.
@Zenoah1 the average american spends most of his/her life living their lives. kids, school, books, clothes, tuition, lunch money, soccer, baseball practice healthcare for the family. while americans are busy minding their lives NO ONE americans VOTED for is LOOKING out out for THEM.the people who are SUPPOSED to be protecting americans asses have not only dropped the ball...they have let it roll into the sewer system, never to be seen again
if only americans had the courage to stand and fight
And.. another thing ..hehe sorry can't seem to help myself here.. Do you honestly believe the corporate world doesn't know the legacy of destruction they leave in their wake ? Congress, has evolved from the political void into Corporate talking heads. Whoever places the right amount of cash into their greedy little palms.. poof.. you've just bought yourself a law. Frankly, it's disgusting. And .. ..
Are people, going to actually stand by and allow this .. to continue. Because if everyone does, they have absolutely no room to sit back and moan and whine about it.
They know .. what caused it. You're asking the wrong question Mr. Schiff. Right now, they are doing the Political shuffle.. lining up all their ducks in a row .. seperating everyone, who is important by six degrees. Making sure there is enough cushion for everyone who matters. For the next 2 years+ we will hear many versions of what happened and why. The question that you need to ask everyone is not why or how but: Have we, as Americans.. had enough ? --continued->
Everything is fine! The MSM teld me so!! Buy Glenn Becks gold & ignore that many European countries are about to start collapsing one by one, up until the United States' final TOTAL ECONOMIC COLLAPSE!!!
We in the US are so damned sunk it isn't even funny. So glad I live in the Republic of Texas. Even with those of us who are active in politics, who vote and write our illustrious representatives, senators, governors, county officials, etc....they are NOT LISTENING TO INTELLIGENT PEOPLE!!!! I am stumped and confused. Thank you for posting this. Bless you.
The public option will be cheap, really? How would you know that since every individual will be forced to pay 8% - 12% of their income to pay for it or be fined $1000 per year or go to jail. So the price for any public option would be different for everyone, surely even you can see the logic in that. Most of the misinformation you are posting is on the Congressional Bill, not the Senate Bill which is very different. However, both are unconstitutional!
Gold not hitting $2000 is not really that big of a deal. the important thing is that its purchasing power has not changed. That is why it along with silver needs to be our medium of exchange, it is stable. On top of the soundness that these metals bring to a currency, IT IS THE LAW OF OUR LAND (USA that is) and there has been no amendment to state otherwise.
Mr. Schiff, it would be nice to slow down your doom and gloom talk about US's economy. The last time I wached you in November 2008 you made a flawed prediction, you thought gold was going to hit $2000 the fact is it backed off $1200.
I think you are wrong again, America's economy has exausted the kinetics of it and now it is on the potential side of the energy. It can only go up from here on, as far as the Freddy and Fanny issue is concerned they are expected to recover half way thru 2010.
"Buy helath insurance or else the us marshalls will come and take you to pound-you-in-the-arse federal prison" should be written in the bill. They should also put on the cover a picture of uncle sam pointing a gun at you with the caption "buy health insurance."
Peter, whichever committee is investigating the collapse, the Dems would never invite you, as they're not really interested in the truth. As a former House committee staffer, I can tell you that your only chance is if the minority staff invites you. You should contact them directly.
i can't predict the future. but it looks like the $us will return to the moving average, so gold & silver is a good swing trade. beyond that, who knows. $us might hold the ma before moving higher. if there is one thing we've learned, we need to ignore fundamentals!
Could you do a video about inflation vs deflation in todays environment and give us som figures on how much new money the Federal Reserve has created vs the lack of money created by interest in this abnormal lending environment. What I would like to see is the amount of money created thru interest normally by banks vs how much the banks are creating now with the tightened lending standards and comapre it to the amount the Fed has monetized..
well you must not be familiar with the us constitution because we are not even supposed to use paper money. Article 1 section 10 "No State shall enter into any treaty, alliance, or confederation; grant letters of marque and reprisal; coin money; EMIT BILLS OF CREDIT; make anything but gold and silver coin a tender in payment of debts" federal reserve notes are bills of credit that promise to pay nothing. A constitutional "dollar" is 371.25 grains fine silver...
Absolutely--if it were a requirement by law, then we'd have to live within our means and the US dollar would not be an international currency as we could not back the entire planet in US dollars with gold.
All I'm saying is there is no threat of any other country using gold to back their currency to replace the dollar.
Unless they intended to scam the planet, because if you back an international currency with an asset, you'll go broke.
if you think the Chinese don't like to consume you are in need of a real cultural lesson. My wife is originally from Guangzhou china (canton). She has been in the states for 6 years now and she waits to go back to china to shop for clothing and other products because in many cases the quality is the same or better at a much lower price. Most Chinese in the USA right now do the same thing, they love to buy their own, as you so eloquently put it "crap."
First of all immigrants are a whole different class of a people. My wife is also an asian immigrant. Whole different ballgame. They have the culture, but are not the average asian and are probably twice as ambitious as the average citizen.
In any case, we'll see. Peter says all China has to do is start consuming.
I'm saying it won't happen.
The US needs to consume to keep China working. China has no choice but to play ball, and they will.
China does need to sell to the US. They can sell to other emerging economies. eitherway china is moving away from being an export economy, they're focusing on domestic trade. The US, however doesn't have the tools or industry to manufacture their own goods. America needs China to keep supplying them cheap goods. That won't last forever.
Lets face it we were much better off economically pre-1913. The only economic issues we had befor then (when not using greenbacks or continentals) were due to things outside of economic policy, such as war. War is a drain on economy, but that is actually a good thing lest men be unrestrained in declaring war. It acts as a natural check against war. A true free market has so many natural benefits I hope I will get the opportunity in my life time to see what real freedom is like, I'm 26 now.
Wow, it is interesting that Schiff runs for senate then he starts getting all these crazy posts from people without any logic. Could it be the opposition paying to have phony postings to try and dumb down real economics?
In my case, I just happened to read a particular book for my MS in engineering management--which drove me to understand why China won't become a consumer as Peter suggests.
I'm a fan of Pete.
Have been for over a year.
It's clear that gold goes up and down with stocks. Gold is just another non-cash asset.
No country will use gold to back a currency unless they dislike their nation and want to destroy it.
If you promise to back an international currency with gold or oil or anything else, then you'll get gamed out of the asset backing the currency. It could literally be a plot by the international community to game your economy.
Instead, we're gaming the planet who is using our fiat currency.
Anyway, other countries will never offer a gold backed currency to replace the dollar because they see this, and no one will trust Russia or China's fiat currency as an int'l standard.
China will NEVER consume its own crap. as Peter suggests.
Try reading 'Cultures and organizations' to understand cultures aren't logical and they don't change.
Even if it's logical for China to consume its own stuff, it does not matter--the culture won't permit that kind of consumption.
When Peter says the world doesn't need the US consumer, it simply means he doesn't get it. Read the above book. The US consumer is REQUIRED for China for at least 2 more generations.
A gold standard is a fool's folly. It puts control of the currency and the country backing it into the holders of the currency.
No country is stupid enough to do that. No gold backed currency will ever come into existence--promising to back a currency with gold would simply ruin a nation as the world gamed it.
The most transparent system is the US. It's not transparent, so what, it just has to be the MOST transparent.
Right on...The Goldhoarders like to say the dollar is backed by nothing and I like to say its backed by the U S military. The safest place on the planet is where all the money goes and that is America.
So it is indeed backed by nothing you just said yourself. The US military is heavily strained by two small conflicts and even then it depends on the rest of the world financing it to operate and still ruins the country financially.
Doesn't sound much like a safe place to end up in, now does it? When the world stops financing wars against themselves, the only people in hurt will be the US citizens.
As tax revenues continue to evaportate, there will come a time, within the next few years, when the United States will not be able to generate the capital to support the military, as well as other public services such as road construction, education, and welfare.
i would but i bought gold with it because i wanted money not paper backed by nothing worth nothing and i have plenty of trees if i need paper do you get it yet paper money was printed to act as gold not the other way around we will see whos right but for me its win win if dollar collapses i have money if dollar goes down i have more money win win win boy i like winning you want some logs you could have more paper but postage will be expensive
@winner502 No I just want you to put your money where your mouth is if the dollar is worthless then send them to me. Your statement "the dollar was printed to act as gold" shows your compleat lack of understanding of what money is.
also it took 1100 worthless dollars today just to buy 1 ounce of gold it use to take 35 worthless dollars paper backed by nothing is worth hmmmmmmmm nothing dont worry times growing short and the real party starts soon i see in the future people taking gold and silver for transactions soon and laughing at paper currencey because i already do and people i know are mad i have gold because they have worthless currencey worth less worth less worth nothing just picturers on paper
The dems aren't going to crash the economy overnight, stop worrying.
It's going to be a gradual crash over the next 10-14 years. ... US is still the best place to live on the planet if you want freedom. Invest in China, and you'll get your ass handed to you. The US isn't going anywhere from its perch at the top of the planet. I'm a fan of schiff, but if you look around, there's still no other game in town.
obama this week said soliders should pay for there own healthcare who get hurt in combat women who get preagneant while in military should go to the brig america what was is no more already you think 10 years in 10 years america wont exist anymore in 5 in 4 your lucky in1 as hitler said i have only to beat the drum and they will follow me i say to you this drum has been beaten for 8 years we will be at war with iran iraq afghanistan pakistan we have them incircled
No problem. Just remember that I told you to relax when it's time to bring in 2011, and we note that if you'd just relaxed, you'd be fine.
It's not going to collapse.
It could if there were other options--another country with a transparent system like the US. If you think the US is secretive, imagine China or Russia.
US is the only game in town. the US dollar is the only currency in town and that's not going to change.
sweet the caps on Fannie mae and Fannie Mac are open to the Fed govt. What a time to invest into Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. All there debts are backed by the Fed Gov't. Wow what a deal. FNM 1.05 , FRE 1.26 as of 12/26/09
Gov't security everything. So when the Health care costs start going up. Because of zero competition. Does that mean there going to increase fee's and expand fee collections to all people????
The same was said of the McCain-Feingold bill which put limits on political speech prior to an election. It was challenged in the Supreme Court and the court decided that this was regulation of commerce and an appropriate application of Congressional regulation. The limits persist to this day.
When is Schiff going to do something more than bitch and moan? I know he's a republican, but that doesn't mean he has to be a contrarian obstructionist like the rest of his party. He needs more on his resume to depose Dodd
There's also some serious irony in his opposition to insurance mandates, which was one of many concessions by the weakling liberals to mostly republican corporatists that have perverted genuine health care reform into a bill that has been inflating insurance stocks for months
what if you dont make hardly any money? Having Health insurance would kill me. Is there anything in that bill for those who cannot afford health insurance?

Schiffty Pete's forecasting record is mediocre at best.
Many economists, including Keynesians like Roubini and Krugmann, predicted the housing bubble and subsequent collapse long before Schiffty did. Schiffty was also telling people to short the market last March. That worked well, eh?
Now Schiffty is predicting that the price of gold will rise to $5,000 per ounce. Wonder if that is connected to his plan to attack Iran?
Um, I hate fox news, so sorry to burst your bubble. I have actually read his blogs. I have several quotes.
"During phases of weak growth there are always those who say that lower interest rates will not help. They overlook the fact that low interest rates act through several channels. For instance, more housing is built, which expands the building sector. You must ask the opposite question: why in the world shouldn't you lower interest rates?"
IS IT TIME?! Go to USRevolution2 (dot com) and get the flag of the Second American Revolution. They're made in Texas and look exactly like Betsy Ross' flag, but with a Roman numeral "II" in the center of the 13 stars. They make great gifts for family, friends and recovering Liberals.
Washington does not want to listen to you Peter because they could care less about correcting any REAL issues. Their agenda is NOT to serve "We The People" but to serve themselves and the Creature. Like Celente says....Washington has been hijacked by Wall Street. The US Congress both house and senate and the Obama administration is nothing more than a collection of criminals!!!
1 Trillion equals $3.500/US citizen. The estimate for the health care plan is 1.4 Trillion, and this is an estimate. Most likely it will come down to 2 Trillion. That is $7,000/ US Citizen. What makes anyone believe we can pay for this? Most people live from paycheck to paycheck.
Tax the rich (A tax that will be passed to everyone else)
Tax "cadillac" health plans, but that is opposed by the unions
Cut fraud and waste from Medicare and Medicaid (Government cut waste? Really?)
When hell freezes over, higher taxes on the rich coupled with waste and abuse cuts from Medicare and Medicaid, the health bill will give more to more people and cost everyone less.
@xp19375: And, of course act all "innocent" when the shit hits the fan, (financial collapse) which will be unavoidable. That will be probably a good moment to push the "solution" like a world currency.
@BrainChild666 Nice distinction, but Peter is talking about what the gov't is allowed to do, which is very different from what an individual is allowed to do. Since no group has (natural) rights, only individuals do, there is no moral problem with saying that what the government is not allowed to do it is forbidden to do. If the gov't wants to expand what it's allowed to do then there is a process for it to do so, which is entirely a different matter.
@HiFiSmith Doesnt the Constitution Limit the Powers of Government? I like your point on "Natural Persons" as opposed to "Artificial Persons"-which are Governed by Maritime Laws. Notice that your Drivers License and SS card have your name is Capitals? That makes you a corporation ie an Artificial Person. Remember that Government in Greek means: Mind Control
We live in a Constitutional Republic of the People.
@BrainChild666 Dude, I said "natural rights" not "natural persons". I included the adjective "natural" to distinguish between the positive rights that DC is handing out or those bestowed on an organization by it's members. I'll excuse you as misreading my comment. After all, we agree fundamentally Democracy = mob rule, which is a tyranny of the majority.
Just when I begin to forget why I despise liberals so much, someone like AtlasShruggery asserts himself in a manner that vividly reminds me of the reasons.
Their constant arrogance and condescension, in the face of the fact that they are totally oblivious toward the fact that they are the biggest tools of all, get old after awhile.
Stop with the left vs right, republicans vs democrats. ARE COME OF YOU STILL TOO STUPID AND ALSEEP TO REALIZE THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ON THE SAME TEAM? Vote 3rd party and this nonsense stops right away.
jsnip4: Right vs. left; Conservative vs. liberal are not the same thing......but the Democrat/Republican parties are the same, you are right about that.
Right vs. left is not the same as Dem vs. Republican. Right vs. left are the difference between two ideologies and/or belief systems.
If we can get enough people to vote 3rd party to punish DC politics as usual, it will be good. Either that, or turn one of the parties back into true patriots.
This nightmare is officially sponsored by the illegal immigrant Obama and his anti American wife Michelle AKA Aunt Esther. Happy holidays to everyone............except you Demoncrats out there.
Atlas, since you like to bend over for Obama why don't you go do the same for Barney Frank, he'd like to get some of your liberal ass too. Have a nice day. LOSER!
You must be one of those Family Values Republicans like Mark "the Pedophile" Foley, "Diaper" Dave Vitter and Larry "Widestance" Craig, eh? What is it with you GOPers and weird sexual stuff?
"We tell the Iranians: This is where we think those weapons are, you need to let our inspectors in there. If they dont let us in, just blow the place up.
Schiffty Pete sounds just like Dick Cheney, doesn't he?
@AtlasShruggery I was saddened to hear Peter say this too. I truly believe he just does not know about how politics really work and the shadow government that has taken over our leaders. He is an expert on financial matters but does not study how and why wars are started. I think Peter and Celente need to get together and let Celente inform him on how and why the propaganda is working overtime right now to form the public's opinion. Start a huge war and no one will care about the collapse.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
"does not study how and why wars are started"
And that is but one of the many reasons that Schiffty Pete is a poor choice for Senate.
Schiffty and Celente have been predicting the imminent collapse of the US economy for many years. Every time the facts prove them wrong they change the parameters and move the goal posts.
In May 2002, Schiffty Pete predicted hyperinflation, soaring interest rates and the Dow falling to 2000 within two years. None of that happened.
Atlas: Ya, he did predict all those things, along with the housing bubble bursting & 10% unemployment as we have seen. Hyperinflation & soaring interest rates are predicted by all to be in the near future, as there is no way around the funny money churning out of the Fed.
So what you are saying is don't listen to him because he predicted it to happen in 2004/2005 & instead it did not happen until 2008 - 2010/2011? Yep, he was about 5 years off on his predictions.
First, Peter Schiff is for non intervention in the economy. Herbert Hoover was the first president to advocate government intervention to try to stabilize the economy. That led us deeper into the Great Depression, which FDR just made worse. Obama and Hoover wanted government intervention, Schiff does not.
Second, he only wants to go into Iran if they have WMD's and they don't let inspectors in. He only wants to destroy those facilities, not invade and occupy the whole country.
Lets all thank the God of Abraham (The God Jews, Christians and Muslims share) for Peter Schiff. His being a US senator would be blessing on our country.
The Democrats may have won this health care bill, but I wouldn't doubt that many of them won't be voted for re-election - this should give you a significant advantage Peter during your campaign. It's likely the reason why Obama insisted on making the passing of this non-partisan bill into law while the Democrats have their power in Congress. 2012 may not lead to the end of the world, but the Mayans seem to be right about a great change (not necessarily a positive one Obama's been preaching).
Congress probably knows that they're responsible for the housing bubble because they promoted it in the first place. The Congressional Budget Office knew about the systemic risks developing among Fannie and Freddie and yet they still did nothing about it, even after they were warned over 20 times that these companies were hemorraging money from these bad loans they were allowing lenders to offer to those they knew couldn't afford to pay for them.
The govt predicted this crisis as soon as Gold got unpegged from the dollar and the day Fed Reserve was born, unfortunately, in the United States. The elite bankers and govt are not as stupid as you think - these people knew this would happen.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This guy doesn't get it when it comes to the mandate. He says with car insurance the most you would be required to get would be liability. But by getting health insurance you ARE covering your liability because, if you go to the emergency room without paying, that raises everyone elses' prices because the hospital has to eat your cost. Too many uninsured people have been doing that and that's one of the reasons why h/c costs have been rising three times faster than the income rate.
Costs are high because demand has gone up, and the supply has not increased to meet this demand. Insurance and the government don't help, because a third party payer makes you want to spend more because it's not your money.
Some people can't afford health insurance, so what do we do about them? Have everyone else (taxpayers) pick up their insurance bill through government subsidies or the public option.
I tried to explain the logic behind the mandate. Absorbing the costs of the uninsured is just ONE of the reasons why h/c costs are rising. That's what I said. Some people can't afford health insurance. What do we do about them? There are at least three choices. Have taxpayers pick up their insurance bill through subsidies, have consumers pick up their insurance bill through higher premiums, or let them buy an ultra-cheap plan through the public option (if there is one.)
What we currently do about the uninsured is pay higher premiums to cover their ER visits. The "ultra-cheap" public option will have to be paid for by taxpayers anyway, and when we get the government involved, it will cost more because of government waste and fraud.
A long time ago, before any major government intervention in health care, there were charities that helped the poor who could not afford health insurance. Insurance was also cheaper then, without all the government mandated coverage.
@xp19375 I'm sorry but your second statement is incorrect. The ultra-cheap insurance policies that would be offered through the public option would have to be purchased by consumers. The public option would be run by an independent govt dept that operates without tax money. Just like the Post Office does.
The only ones that will get free h/c are the poor, elderly, disabled, and veterans just like today. There will be a ten year period where the govt will help many adjust to the mandate
The "ultra-cheap" public option will not get enough money to pay for its expenses. Since they cannot turn you down for a preexisting condition, no one will buy it until they get sick. The penalty is lower than the premium cost. Since no healthy people are paying into it, those premiums will either have to cover all the medical expenses, making them very high, or have to be subsidized by the government, costing the taxpayers.

It'll be interesting to see how Schiffty's prediction that the price of gold will rise to $5,000 per ounce will pan out.

CircleBastiat 1 year ago

They know .. what caused it. You're asking the wrong question Mr. Schiff. Right now, they are doing the Political shuffle.. lining up all their ducks in a row .. seperating everyone, who is important by six degrees. Making sure there is enough cushion for everyone who matters. For the next 2 years+ we will hear many versions of what happened and why. The question that you need to ask everyone is not why or how but: Have we, as Americans.. had enough ? --continued->

12Tamtui 2 years ago
well gold doen not lose its value. Its telling us our currency is losing its value...the high price in gold is a warning sign for a weak dollar.

12Tamtui 2 years ago
Absolutely--if it were a requirement by law, then we'd have to live within our means and the US dollar would not be an international currency as we could not back the entire planet in US dollars with gold.
All I'm saying is there is no threat of any other country using gold to back their currency to replace the dollar.
Unless they intended to scam the planet, because if you back an international currency with an asset, you'll go broke.
Or, it's a massive liability at least.

roddiero,
if you think the Chinese don't like to consume you are in need of a real cultural lesson.
12Tamtui 2 years ago
First of all immigrants are a whole different class of a people. My wife is also an asian immigrant. Whole different ballgame. They have the culture, but are not the average asian and are probably twice as ambitious as the average citizen.
In any case, we'll see. Peter says all China has to do is start consuming.
I'm saying it won't happen.
The US needs to consume to keep China working. China has no choice but to play ball, and they will.
roddiero 2 years ago

I'm pro Peter for senate in CT.
Peter's a great guy, but armageddon isn't coming.
roddiero 2 years ago
So if a country is on the gold standard that means they hate their country and want to destroy it? That makes 0 sense.

Burningphoenix888 2 years ago

The US consumer is REQUIRED for China for at least 2 more generations.
roddiero 2 years ago
A gold standard is a fool's folly. It puts control of the currency and the country backing it into the holders of the currency.
No country is stupid enough to do that. No gold backed currency will ever come into existence--promising to back a currency with gold would simply ruin a nation as the world gamed it.
The most transparent system is the US. It's not transparent, so what, it just has to be the MOST transparent.
People will put faith in China? Wake up.

IWashMyOwnBrain 2 years ago
So it is indeed backed by nothing you just said yourself. The US military is heavily strained by two small conflicts and even then it depends on the rest of the world financing it to operate and still ruins the country financially.
Doesn't sound much like a safe place to end up in, now does it? When the world stops financing wars against themselves, the only people in hurt will be the US citizens.

AtlasShruggery 2 years ago

Their plans are to:
Tax the rich (A tax that will be passed to everyone else)
Tax "cadillac" health plans, but that is opposed by the unions
Cut fraud and waste from Medicare and Medicaid (Government cut waste? Really?)
When hell freezes over, higher taxes on the rich coupled with waste and abuse cuts from Medicare and Medicaid, the health bill will give more to more people and cost everyone less.

BrainChild666 2 years ago
@BrainChild666 Nice distinction, but Peter is talking about what the gov't is allowed to do, which is very different from what an individual is allowed to do. Since no group has (natural) rights, only individuals do, there is no moral problem with saying that what the government is not allowed to do it is forbidden to do. If the gov't wants to expand what it's allowed to do then there is a process for it to do so, which is entirely a different matter.
HiFiSmith 2 years ago
@HiFiSmith Doesnt the Constitution Limit the Powers of Government? I like your point on "Natural Persons" as opposed to "Artificial Persons"-which are Governed by Maritime Laws. Notice that your Drivers License and SS card have your name is Capitals? That makes you a corporation ie an Artificial Person. Remember that Government in Greek means: Mind Control
We live in a Constitutional Republic of the People.
Democracy means:MobRule in Greek.

People like atlasshruggery are the problem, with no solution but to rid them from our country.

Why does USA have a socialist mortgage system (Freddie and Fannie), but no universal health care.
That's sooo screwed up!

I wonder how this will affect the Amish? They don't believe in any kind of insurance...

This guy doesn't get it when it comes to the mandate. He says with car insurance the most you would be required to get would be liability. But by getting health insurance you ARE covering your liability because, if you go to the emergency room without paying, that raises everyone elses' prices because the hospital has to eat your cost. Too many uninsured people have been doing that and that's one of the reasons why h/c costs have been rising three times faster than the income rate.
brothermikefan 2 years ago
Disagree, it will rise no matter what as doctors demand more income
noctuavirtue 2 years ago
Costs are high because demand has gone up, and the supply has not increased to meet this demand. Insurance and the government don't help, because a third party payer makes you want to spend more because it's not your money.
Some people can't afford health insurance, so what do we do about them? Have everyone else (taxpayers) pick up their insurance bill through government subsidies or the public option.
xp19375 2 years ago
I tried to explain the logic behind the mandate. Absorbing the costs of the uninsured is just ONE of the reasons why h/c costs are rising. That's what I said. Some people can't afford health insurance. What do we do about them? There are at least three choices. Have taxpayers pick up their insurance bill through subsidies, have consumers pick up their insurance bill through higher premiums, or let them buy an ultra-cheap plan through the public option (if there is one.)
brothermikefan 2 years ago
What we currently do about the uninsured is pay higher premiums to cover their ER visits. The "ultra-cheap" public option will have to be paid for by taxpayers anyway, and when we get the government involved, it will cost more because of government waste and fraud.
A long time ago, before any major government intervention in health care, there were charities that helped the poor who could not afford health insurance. Insurance was also cheaper then, without all the government mandated coverage.
xp19375 2 years ago
@xp19375 I'm sorry but your second statement is incorrect. The ultra-cheap insurance policies that would be offered through the public option would have to be purchased by consumers. The public option would be run by an independent govt dept that operates without tax money. Just like the Post Office does.
The only ones that will get free h/c are the poor, elderly, disabled, and veterans just like today. There will be a ten year period where the govt will help many adjust to the mandate
brothermikefan 2 years ago
@brothermikefan
