people keep bashing LFS all the time, but for drifting there's really no sim better. The tire physics of LFS is far superior to what rFactor has been using since launch. Anything more than a few degrees of slip and you lose all traction and flick out.
I've drifted around on snow in my youth, and from what i can remember... a few degrees of slip didn't make my car go skippetyflop into a ditch. No idea who did the tire physics for rFactor, but he's evidently never driven a car.
thats on snow... and your beetah wouldnt have as much power as the cars in this game how ever i havnt played lfs... but im going to try and see what all the fus is about my self !
Yeah true, cars do behave differently on snow, you can drift at a fraction of the speed you would on dry tarmac. but still.. There is something off about the default tire physics in rfactor.
I tried the drifting mods for rfactor about a month ago, and the one that ISI made was actually very nice. The others i tried were really bad though. Felt like the car had a million hp and the only way to really get a slide was full power. Also it seemed like you pretty much got full power at 20% throttle.
''Proper'' is relative; the only place you'll find even worse tire physics than in the usual mods is with the drift mods.. It ''works'' but is far far far from proper. Probably fun, which is also important.. but not realistic!
lol, the tyres are based on real tyre figures unlike most other rfactor mods :)
in fact version 3 of this mod which comes out very soon has redone physics by a professional drifter (finished 2nd in the slovenia drift championship), so watch out for that :)
If so, I take back what I said. Its still a car though, tires are tires.. Its certainly possible to drift with 'realistic' tires in rFactor but most use completely out of this world LatPeak and LongPeak lines in the TBC file. (and other things wrong!) I hope you guys do it right..
lfs is still superior in every way man, except MAYBE for content : lots mods for rfactor, but imo no more than 50% are interesting, whereas the few things you have in lfs can have you hooked for months.. However, in addition to the realfeel plugin, cars with properly coded suspension work can quite convincing with a good wheel (think dfp/g25)
LFS is an arcade game where the throttle control is a complete joke, thus u can flat foot drift and therefore are able to drift with a mouse or keyboard..
this is the d1gp beta mod, but ive changed the default setup quite a bit to make it drift properly... seems the guys who converted it from racer didnt really know what they were doing - a repackaged version of this mod will be released soon, probably will that same crappy setup :)
