This man personally burned direct orders from hitler himself telling him to shoot his POWs (as well as any commandos he had).
Instead of shooting them he gave them the same amount of food,water and medience as he did to his own troops.

Rommel had this bad habbit to do not follow orders and never consider the logistic aspect before deploying ground operations.
He had success in France but defeats in Africa due to this lack of training. Keep in mind Rommel never been graduated from School Officer!
Rommel pushed his tanks over to Egypt but extanded his supply over the limit.
Manstein never faced a situation like this!

@OrodesIII Yes but the german military was rebuilt by the nazi machine so the regular army may not have had any choice.We may never know but donitz did say one time in his memoirs that germany was never ready to fight on the high seas with just subs.So there was some hint of disagreement.

The Kriegsmarine was always the orphan to the army and air force as the main theater of operations was to be the invasion of Russia, so some bellyaching from the Admiral was to be expected.

See: Werner von Fritsch, of the famous Blomberg-Fritsch Affair, Himmler and the SS falsely accused him of homosexuality to push him out. Also Chiefs of the General Staff Ludwig Beck and Franz Halder, who had detailed plans to overthrow Hitler due to the push for war in the late 30s. Beck was the ringleader of the Valkyrie assassination plot. The military was old-line conservative, not Nazi.

The Wehrmacht is the German Army, the SS was a different unit altogether that Himmler created to gain control over politics that turned into the most elite military unit of the Second World War.
The Wehrmacht was disbanded after the defeat of Nazi Germany at the end of the war and the German army is now called the Deutsches Heer. Wehrmacht literally means "War Machine" Another thing the allies took away was the "Iron Cross" which was the highest award in the Wehrmacht.
