Apple computers are for trendy social douches, who want to pretend they are artistic intellectuals via photo editors. To be more explicit, when the herds of scenesters wrongfully glorify something they lack the competence and individuality to voice a personal opinion about. It instantly stereotypes it, and is no longer acceptable by my standards. However Apple is marketed towards these trendy scenesters, so at least they take the bait, and are easily identified.
Apples are for people who want a stylish computer. They just want something that works and looks good. Alienwares are for enthousiasts and hardcore gamers who like tweaking, modding, upgrading and overclocking.
In the end both are good for their own audiance, but alienware uses higher quality parts(faster ram(lower CL) with heatsinks, better cooling, better mobo, better screen(the dell is much better than the built-in mac)
"Alienwares are for enthousiasts and hardcore gamers who like tweaking, modding, upgrading and overclocking."
No.....Alienwares are JUST as bad as Macs IMO. The do the same thing, overcharging on hardware, slapping a stupid glowing alien head on the computer, and then jacking the price up about 20-30%. Any ACTUAL enthusiast/hardcore gamer who likes to tweak/mod/OC/mod would have built their own computer for about 20-30% less than just buying one from Gaylienware(dell).
@MinimeDrummerBoi Other people also commented on your video, and you're right I didn't specifically refer to anyone which means I didn't necessarily refer it to you.
The screen of the iMac is at least worth $1000, it's resolution is higher then the one that you selected and the size of the screen is bigger by three inches. Agreed 2.66ghz is not much slower but still is slower and also combined with 3GB of RAM is not very good, 4GB makes more of a difference. You say it's not much of a difference but it's 33% of an increase. iMac has wireless keyboard and mouse as standard which are expensive and also iMac has iLife software your looking atleast $2800
@navdeepgabria All that you have mentioned, I've stated in the video. When I'm talking about the RAM difference, I was talking about the speeds the RAMs were clocked at.
I've mentioned that screen resolution is bigger on the iMac, apparently you didn't listened.
Arguing about the wireless mouse/keyboard, I believe that's a personal preference which is why I didn't take it as a big deal. If you want to go further, the Alienware has a much better expandability.
People pay for features too, not just solely on performance. If that's the case, the Alienware will outperform the iMac, but it doesn't mean it's a better buy so maybe you should do some research before calling others "idiots".
I have a Alienware ALX Aurora and my roommate has a iMac 27in. He paid 2k I paid 3k. I play games it makes sense to have windows based equipment that can be updated as new cards come out. He does video editing which makes are exceeding good at. Pick the computer for you application...
the iMac is better..but the Alienware is more for gamers so if ur a gamer the Alienware is the way to go....but Appl's OS experience is way better than Window's .......
That great, An iMac isnt... its a home computer. Meaning that a Wireless mouse and keyboard will be wanted for the features.... so really it does count
Well in this comparison I'm speaking solely on hardware.
I believe i discuss about peripherals later in the video.
If you watched the first part, I've mention numerous times that this comparison wasn't even fair in the first place (comparing an All in One vs. a Tower)
1GB RAM? As in memory? I believe the Alienware has a bigger capacity in memory.
Again, I'm not involving any software as Applesoldier mainly did a hardware comparison.
yes but your still missing parts out. Just as i listed. you can fight all you want but the iMac offers more for its price... so you can make excuses all you want. the iMac offers more
I'm not "fighting". Apparently you're in love with an iMac? Because I'm not bashing it either. It's the best All in Out there when compared to other offerings from Dell, HP, etc.
Expandability is much bigger on the Alienware, however it's a tower so that gives it an unfair advantage over the iMac.
Like I said iLife is software. The Alienware has an option of a free standard keyboard.
I can list many (much more) things that the Alienware has over the iMac but I don't.
comparing ati 4850 to gtx260 is not even funny. vast difference in performance. plus it comes with a free liquid cooling fyi. gamers will pick alienware in a heartbeat and non gamers with the choice will most likely pick alienware. cause it is not only $100 cheaper it over performs the imac.
Actually, the 4850 HD and the GTX260 are very similar in terms of performance. In the mobile segment, the GTX260m is even slower than the Mobility 4850.
The imac has a faster processor, another gig of ram, a bigger/arguably better screen, and a nifty mouse/keyboard for just $35 more. That doesn't even take into consideration aesthetics or OS differences, or the fact that it's an all-in-one vs. a conventional tower/monitor setup.
That wasn't directed specifically at you, it was more of a matter-of-fact kinda thing.
Long story short:
Pricecuts in the latest apple hardware releases make it a much, much more competitive platform. Spec out a pc as closely as possible to the mac you want to purchase, and chances are you will find a negligible price difference if any at all. At least, that's what I found when I needed a new computer and made the switch to mac this summer.
Actually, most PCs' will configure a few hundred cheaper but in terms of All in Ones, Apple has it locked down. They're All in Ones are pretty much the fastest ones out there.
Back then when I bought my Macbook Pro Santa Rosa model, I overpaid nearly 1K (no exaggeration) but it was a gift from my parents anyways. Overall, they are nice computers and all, but unless you love aluminum and simple designs, there are many alternatives out there.
Having no wires for my mouse and keyboard and having a simpler system that takes up much less space IS worth money to certain people, such as myself. But even if you're not interested in the Apple philosophy of simplicity, look at the facts: A machine with a slightly better video card that's less than 100 dollars cheaper, vs a machine with a MUCH better display, another gig of ram and a slightly better processor. To me, the decisions is clear.
If you're looking at it from a regular consumer, then y es, it will probably appeal to that particular consumer.
Like in my previous comment, their both aimed at different consumers. If you were a gamer, the expandability on the Alienware would be more appealing including the extra I/O ports etc.
In the end, they both serve as good choices for the gamers and regular consumers. Of course people can always build their own but that's a whole another story.
I appreciate the reasonably unbiased response, but I don't think you drew up the comparisons on the final price very well. The Alienware machine has the iMac covered on the video card by a small margin, that's it. The iMac's screen destroys that 24' display you included. Included bluetooth keyboard and mouse reduce the cords even further than the included wired mouse and keyboard on the tower(which by the way, consume another 2 usb ports... I don't believe you mentioned this).
hmm.. i dunno if it's fair to be comparing alienware machines with the apple imac. they both target different market segments.. apple dont make gaming rigs.
Also, the iMac's screen is SO much better than the alienware's screen. You can't even get a 27" inch IPS Blacklit LED screen with that kind of res, the pixel per inch is alot higher than any other screen i have personally seen, with higher than full hd res.
Optical digital audio input is S/PDIF format and uses a standard Toslink cable with a Toslink mini-plug adapter, accepting up to 24-bit stereo and 44.1-96kHz sampling rate.
the 27" display by itself would cost about 1,000, not 1,800. but your point still stands. The display for it is amazing and the computer that comes with it is comparably cheap.
I saw one of the 27" iMacs at best buy yesterday. it is an unbelievably good display. Definitely my next purchase. since I have a EyeTV, looks like I'm trowing away all of my TV's.
IMAC and PC at just Apples and Oranges. Some People like apples while alot like Oranges. That being said I just order the Alienware Aurora PC a week ago and the only thing I changed was the ram from 3GB to 12GB!
Dell 30 inch 3008WFP is not LED, the 27" inch iMac is LED and the res of 2560x1440 higher then that 24 inch 1920x1200 you have chosen, the only display that comes close to the iMac screen res and comes with LED is Samsung XL30 which has the res of 2560x1600 but the cost is $3,345 for almost the same res as 27" imac with LED 2560x1440, Quad-Core i5,i7, 4GB, 1TB..for $1999-$2200 that's a awesome price for a 27 inch LED and a computer plus you can use it as a secondary display, my opinion Imac FTW
The Dell Widescreen Flat Panel does a higher resolution and it does 2560 x 1600. It's priced at 1600 so the Samsung XL30 isn't the only monitor that "comes close" to the iMac's resolution.
I know that the Dell 3007 and 3008 has 2560x1600 so does HP,Nec, Eizo but none if them comes in LED and you have to factor that in with the 27" inch iMac which is a 2569x1440 LED display and the only display that you can get in LED is Samsung XL30 2560x1600 that will match Apple 27" LED that what makes the iMac such a great deal
34skyline is right in some ways you have to compare spec for spec and that includes the same processor, ram, hard drive space ,blue tooth, wireless n, Firewire 800 and the display the Imac 27 inch is LED you have to find the same 27 or 30 inch with 2560x1600 or 2560x1440 and it has to be LED also just to be fair when comparing in price.
FFS, check what a 27" monitor with the same resolution as the iMac costs and add that to the price. Not this 24" one.

34skyline 2 years ago
The Dell Widescreen Flat Panel does a higher resolution and it does 2560 x 1600. It's priced at 1600 so the Samsung XL30 isn't the only monitor that "comes close" to the iMac's resolution.
MinimeDrummerBoi 2 years ago
I know that the Dell 3007 and 3008 has 2560x1600 so does HP,Nec, Eizo but none if them comes in LED and you have to factor that in with the 27" inch iMac which is a 2569x1440 LED display and the only display that you can get in LED is Samsung XL30 2560x1600 that will match Apple 27" LED that what makes the iMac such a great deal

34skyline is right in some ways you have to compare spec for spec and that includes the same processor, ram, hard drive space ,blue tooth, wireless n, Firewire 800 and the display the Imac 27 inch is LED you have to find the same 27 or 30 inch with 2560x1600 or 2560x1440 and it has to be LED also just to be fair when comparing in price.
hardwaregeeks 2 years ago
I mean why pay 700$ for a 24" monitor when you can get like an acer or asus or whatever for like $250+
nakedmongoose123 2 years ago
because
1) The iMac comes with a display built-in from Apple. So, you get a first party display from Dell to make it even
2) It doesn't matter whic of those displays you get, they are all inferior to the iMac's 27" display.
sc0pl355 2 years ago
newegg has a 27" monitor 1920x1080 resolution for $399
not a 24" from dell for almost 700.
nakedmongoose123 2 years ago
1) That display from newegg can't even come close to the iMac display.
2) The iMac has a FIRST PARTY display, so the Dell, in an fair and balanced comparison, should have a first party display.
3) The Dell Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP is a VA panel with a resolution of 1920 x 1200. It is also miles better than your 1920 x 1080 display no doubt.
Between the three, the iMac display is, by far, the best.

Dell says the 3008WFP is IPS, which makes sense because it costs $1699. Which is about $200 less than an Apple Cinema Display.

I'm not really familiar with monitors but is there really a notable difference between an IPS and LED monitor?

LED is the lighting used in the new iMac. The IPS panel LCD display uses LEDs as the backlight.
A full LED screen is different from a LCD screen tho. In a full LED screen, the image is made up of the colored LEDs turning on and off.
LCD's have a type of pigment the the backlight shines through

So basically IPS is just another type of LED.

Nono
LED + Energy = light
LCD + Energy = opaque
Two different things.
