Because the chairman is THAT awesome.

When these shows were first being released, none of the chairman's speech was dubbed, including the 'meet the chef' and 'ingredient advice' vignettes.

After a couple of years, they started dubbing the chairman as you see here, and the guy they picked... SUCKS!

Actually, the Chairman was originally dubbed, but the producers didn't like the voice and started using subtitles for him. Later on, either Fuji TV or Food Network lost the rights to the music in the intro. Apparently, they couldn't replace it without losing Kaga's narration.

One thing has always made me wonder,

The theme ingredient is supposed to be suprise, right? Yet I've seen Kaga-san almost spell out exactly what it is just vefore the unveiling. What's the point of keeping it a mystery if he pretty much just tells everyone?

It's a way of upping the anticipation. You know how you watch wondering what the ingredient wil be? (Normally) It's drawing out the moment.

They are given a list of possible ingredients ahead of time.

Its not that much of a secret, when they make a challenge or accept a challenge they have to choose two out of the three chefs they would like to challenge. (Usually Chen and Sakai)

Then they are given a list of 5 possible secret ingredients. The day before the list is shortened to three. And after the ingredient is announced there is about 10 minutes before the battle begins,, to heat up pans etc.

I think its the fact that the women chefs are the Iron Chefs weakness, no matter what the theme is. Kandagawa probably just taking advantage of the automatic handicap when bringing in a female...especially against poor Chen.

yeah, in his early years as iron chef, he did badly against female chefs. the first female chef on this show came and fought Chen and won. but then she had a rematch with him in the later years, and Chen won, which meant that he really overcame his struggles facing female chefs
