  • This is the first Expert village video that s actually helpfull I see.

  • Does this style have to be played on a slide guitar or would an electric guitar still make that sound to a certain extent?

  • a good video from expert village? what is this?

  • that fullscreen caption is so distracting i didn't watch the whole thing

  • it loooooks easier then it is xD

  • which tuning is this please?

  • Dobro tuning is GBDGBD(low to high). It differs from the open G guitar tuning (DGDGBD) in that it allows the player to use harmony notes of 3rds and 6ths throughout the full range of the instrument.

  • @caralhosvosfodam Open G

  • @nirvanafrik im actually doing this in open D and its working out.

  • @Fozzy757 That's the same thing, just another scale.

  • which tuning is it sir?

  • Thanks for the lesson!

I have a quick question: can you play these licks your are playing in any open major tuning? or is it something special about open C that will do the trick when it comes to the hawaii style?

  • What A Great Music!!! :)

  • "Dobro" on Croatian means "good" :))

  • in portuguese means "I bend"

    :P

  • like a country music ... thank you

  • 5 stars

  • Anyone knows what is the thing he is using to slide down the frets called??

  • Its a steel bar.

  • a slide.

  • A slide is used on a regular guitar, and your finger goes inside it. What he's using is called a Tone Bar. There are several types. Pedal Steel players use very heavy ones, most Hawaiian players use lighter ones, but both mostly use round bullet-shaped bars. Most Bluegrass players use a slightly different style with grooves in the side for your fingers. More info can be had at the HSGA web site. Google HSGA, it should come up.

  • its called weight... or rod.

  • @Brotherh00d:

    A slide?..

  • Great!!!

I have a question: do I need a special lap slide guitar or does a normal slide guitar work as well?

  • I bought two flat edged bone pieces ( I forget what the pieces are called ) at a bluegrass festival from one of the stalls ... they replace the curved ones at the top and bottom of your guitar .. so I was able to turn my spare guitar into a dobro kind of thing . Obviously I dont get the full volume ... but its great for me to practice and saved me buying another instrument and then finding out I wasted even more money again ...

  • Thanks a lot ^^

  • Hi,beautiful sound,what kind of dobro and tuning.Thanks

  • thats like a nice lazy happy style. Thats cool, that show what a wide diversity there is to play with slide.

  • Im resonably sure the lat style dobro instrument was created after seeing hawaian people playing a similar instrument, so you have your history backwards, or perhaps i do, but im pretty sure im right.

  • Thanx for perpetuating the STEEL GUITAR.

Slide is what folks like Johnny Winter do on a standard guitar.

  • is this standard tuning

  • No, Probably open G, most common open tuning on dobro/resonator.

  • cool!

    thanks for the vid!
