The mellophone, leading the trombone section, is played by George Thow, who was 3rd trumpet with Isham in 1932-'33 and went on to play with a lot of name bands, eg the Dorsey Bros. and Lawrence Welk.
Once George left the band, Isham no longer used a mellophone.
