What kills me is George's description of his stepfather, who sounds like a kind, hardworking, generous, responsible, man. He then goes on to say he is self-centered and burning in hell...? Weird.
If it's a Christian nation, then Christianity is again responsible for an atrocity; the massacre and attempted (mostly successful), against the first nations of the American continent.
In response to this DVD one of the best is from Ravi Zacharias. You Tube has several to listen to..He answers Athiests in several parts, "Debates on Jesus' Parables"; speaks on evolution of morality by Richard Dawkins; "The Existence of God", and so on..
separation of church and state (the establishment clause) protects believers and non-believers of all types. bigotry wrapped in religion is still bigotry.
@TheRecoveringLiberal I assure you no Satans, Vishnus, Jehovahs, Allahs, Unicorns, Santa Clauses, or other supernatural and imaginary beings were utilized in the creation of this documentary.
@TheRecoveringLiberal Yes, I assume any tall tale is imaginary unless someone shows me some verifiable evidence that it is real. If your neighbor told you he had ten tons of gold in his basement but wouldn't show it to you, I think you'd also assume it was imaginary, at least until he gave you some proof. Why don't you use the same reasoning when it comes to a supernatural god that even more astonishing claims are made of?
@ScottBurdickArt Delusion- A false belief that is resistant to reason or correlation with actual fact. A belief based on incorrect inference about external reality. Here lies the problem with Christianity. they accept it on faith A priori of actual experience, their faith cant be shaken by actual facts because in their profound self delusion they think they already have the truth. paradoxically they say others are 'closed minded', in the end its group delusion.
@TheRecoveringLiberal No. The problem is that you are the only ones asserting the existence of the supernatural, and yet you never give evidence to validate it. You simply assume that you are right. The burden of proof is upon YOUR shoulders, my friend, not ours.
Atheists do not presuppose god’s non-existence, atheists are simply unconvinced of god’s existence. Arguments made by theists can be refuted without appealing to god’s non existence.
Arguments made by atheists against god’s existence, be they a priori or a posteriori, are not invalid due to the fact that proponents of presuppositionalism have failed to establish reason and logic as being dependant upon the existence of god.
@TheRecoveringLiberal your an idiot. These people are far from Christians....i see a bunch of bigoted morons who dont have a clue what this country was founded on. Bigotry and hate are satanic...not tolerance. Or do you have no faith in ur religion without forcing it on people..
Wow. So many of these people are completely bonkers. The scariest ones though are the sweet li'l "Christian" ladies defending slavery....unbelievable.
At their core, extremist Christians aren't much different than extremist Muslims.
And the Christians in the US have no idea what "persecution" means; they've never experienced it. It just their way of whining like spoiled brats when everyone doesn't bow down to their personal views. You are free to believe that you have a "personal relationship" with an imaginary sky person, but you don't have the right to shove your personal fantasies down anyone else's throat.
continued from earlier... Blinded by my own ignorance.Been there done that. Repented, trying to move on. Recently pulled behind a Volvo with the typical stickers Coexist,Tolerance,Love, One World,I think therefore I vote Democrat etc surrounding hateful stickers about all Republicans.I'm still trying to figure that one out.I catch myself angry at the ignorance behind the wheel. The film reminded me of that moment. Then it reminds me of me. My own judgement, my own sin, still blinds me.
I've known Scott B. 10 yrs. Has a big heart.I've known Christ 42 yrs.Big heart there too. Haven't known many like in the film who claim to know Christ but...Sad. I know why we are called hypocrites. We have turned Him into our image, not the other way around. We spend more time fighting for a flag created by man,but forget the widows.I fail, I sin, the list goes on.I've discovered the power of forgiveness but need to be reminded daily.Seems here many will hate me for my faith. Stand in line.
@filmingvision I don't hate anyone for their religious beliefs until they try to force them onto me. I began as a saved, baptized Xian for many years. There's just no valid evidence.
I look forward to the day when we as atheists will NOT be the most discriminated against minority anymore - take a moment & imagine that. Try to put yourself in our shoes. We need more films like this so religious peeps may see themselves & just how utterly bigoted & prejudice some really are.
@Hercules2345 I am very sorry that you are discriminated against and I won't, can't and don't care to try to force anything, including my faith on anyone. I do try and am learning more how to "put myself in other shoes". I can't speak for others, but I if I find myself starting to feel as if I'm better than any one group or person all it does is make me smaller and destructive to myself. I'm am sorry for those who have put you down for your beliefs. I truly am sorry.
@filmingvision Ahh, no need to apologize as you're obviously not part of that. I would like to see the average Christian learn more about atheism to realize they have nothing to fear. I think that's where all the discrimination comes from in the first place is fear.

@filmingvision I don't know if many would hate you for your faith. I was a man of faith once as well and you seem to be more rational than many of your christian brothers and sisters. The humanist community is not against people having faith or religion, in fact most of us would fight for your personal right to practice your faith. Our issue is with those who claim that their faith is the standard and the rest of America/the world must comply. Our stance is that the default should be neutral.
@BoyInfidel Thanks for your comments. I agree, there should be no standard. We all are free to decide what/who to believe.I'm reminded that Jesus hung with the outcast, lowly, discarded & rebuked many religious leaders who thought themselves better than others. He gave women dignity, unheard of for that time. Many in this film look down on others.I'm still pulling the huge log out of my own eyes so I can look up.Some say prove God exists.I love my family. Can't prove it.I dream at night. No proof there.
Deuteronomy 13: If your closest friend, son, daughter, brother, sister or wife suggest to you that you should worship another god, it is your duty to put them to death by stoning. Show them no mercy; let yours be the first hand to throw the stone. Kill them so that none among you shall consider such evil again. If another city has taken to worshipping another god, execute them all and burn their possessions. Yeah, there are a few parts of the Bible that could really use, uh, severe redadacting.
The thing that saddens me the most is seeing those children who are talking about their faith, or the rapture, or basically repeating what their parents have taught them. It's sad that they're being led by the hand down a path of ignorance.
that bald soldier that wanted to beat people up and talked about "faggots" scared the shit out of me...i thought you had to have a mental screening before joining the army

While this film did provide a wonderfully diverse selection of interviews, the way it was presented at times was fundamentally flawed. It's the filmmaker's job to give everyone/thing a fair shake, present it unadultered as possible to the audience, and let them decide. Prodding some of the interviewees further into rationalizing their thoughts as was done here is reasonable, but repeatedly resorting to SUPER CLOSE UP shots and creepy music to instill a sense of discomfort is uncalled for.
@darkt0aster Well, I thought of using happy music when people were telling me about how they'd kill women and children if god asked (or that slavery isn't immoral because it's sanctioned in the Bible) but it just didn't seem to fit that well.
@ScottBurdickArt IMHO, those segments could (and probably should) have stood on their own without assistance. Anyone on their side of the fence is going to see it as blatant demonizing and take the rest of the film even less seriously. The rest of us are more than capable of figuring out for ourselves that some of those answers are, in fact, really %&@#ing scary. I don't mean to nitpick too much, just my $0.02. I still really enjoyed it overall. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
@darkt0aster Thanks, I really do appreciate the thoughts. It is a difficult subject to tackle fairly and you may be right about the music. I originally was going to have some narration, but decided against that for the very reasons you bring up, but I also know that there is no such thing as complete objectivity. I definitely did have a POV and message to convey with the way I filmed it and the questions I asked, though I did try to do it fairly and subtly.
@darkt0aster A film doesn't automatically have to be completely bias-free. This film, though, was pretty damn close given the subject. As soon as you put some of those religious people in front of a camera, the nonsense that comes out just demands some creepy music. And their logical inconsistencies were quite apparent, even without the music lol
@matics19 Agree, I just think that the less obvious the influence of the filmmaker, the better. The music and closeups felt a little too heavy-handed to me and things like that can potentially interfere with or detract from the point being made. I loved it otherwise. It's not often when we get to see such a wide and well composed set of viewpoints on a single issue.
@stlstg Just to clarify, "fair shake" doesn't mean a film can't have a leaning or opinion. It means that both sides can say their bit without obstruction. It's not mandatory, but a good practice if one hopes to provide the most accurate and complete picture and influence the widest selection of audiences, especially on a topic/situation like this. The rest of the film can still be structured around it to convey a message (as this was) so the editing I described earlier felt unnecessary.
@stlstg I lived there, and was directly affected because of my relationship with one of the families involved. The film is too kind to the local 'Christians'. He gave them more then a fair shake. He just didnt have to give them a lot of rope to hang themselves with. How many times did he totally own that so called lady 'preacher'. What do u need to qualify for that except book and a open hand for donations.
We really ought to have let them go during the civil war. We'd have a modern, Western, prosperous, secular state in the North (and Pacific coast), and a Xtian Afghanistan in the South.
Belief is an interesting phenomenon that exists everywhere. We (as human beings) accept so much without empirical grounds for our belief. The city I live in banned fluoride from the drinking water because of unfounded scares. And now my provincial government is going to legitimize homeopathic practices. The leader of my country is a christian fundamentalist. And this is Canada. When did the world wake up one morning and decide to hate science? In short videos like this are enlightening. Thanks.
America is really a hotbed of religious obsession. In many places in Europe, people are religious but not screaming about with flags. This trivializes what are their prime beliefs.
I currently live in small town rural America. These people have no idea what the rest of America is really like. It's sad, and kind of depressing that they are so blissfully ignorant. They do not realize how dangerous this way of close minded thinking can be. Thankfully, I am moving back to a more liberal state.
When I watch this I have a hard time liking the Christians. They sound like fanatical lunatics and they clearly want a totalitarian state based on Christianity. This makes them my enemy
@emagneticboy97 Just remember that there were also Christians like James Dunn, Rev. Barry Lynn, and Brent Walker who are fighting for religious freedom alongside you and atheist groups like the Freedom From Religion Foundation in the film. Don't make the mistake of using too broad a brush to characterize all Christians as fanatics.
@ScottBurdickArt I could quite happily sit down and have a beer with James Dunn. He seemed like a pretty awesome dude who seems to have led and interesting and active life fighting for the freedoms of others. More Christians should look to him as an example.
They actually are everybody's (who is not one of them) enemy. Look up "dominionism" on Google. They want to tear down the constitution and replace it with their version of the old testament. Compare the shit they say with the shit that radical muslims spout and there really is not much difference other than the holy book cited and the name of the "god" they pray to.
In Sweden its illegal to say what belief is good ore bad in school. we are very open minded and that's good, because otherwise it will end up like this shit
on the dollar it say "in god we trust" well, how come there is a war in Iraq if the bible say don't fucking kill!? everyone need a belief, voodoo, Christian, magic, Islam, hope, luck ore any other, i beleav in hope, and kinda HATE America for believing in god at the same time they go agenst what they beleav, "may god be with the soldiers in Iraq" if god would exist he would send a lightning throw the head of all who´s willing to kill for someone ells
Excellent documentary. Religions are at the heart of most evils in this world. Peace in the world can be achieved but first that God myth has to be banished from the minds.
Why is the Christian answer always Violence? Taking down the Christian flag, prayer, ten commandments, etc... is not about a war on religions or Christians it is about doing what is right. What is right is protecting freedoms for all people not just majorities. A majority Christian population does not make this a Christian country. There is no place for religious views in our Secular government.
there are storys in the bible about god killing inocent children, genocide.rape slaves,incest,.murder,9 times unicorns are in the bible, crazy magic, why do people belive a book that is fiction and writen by sheephearders.jesus was just a man that was made a god by the pulpit pimps to make money.
its funny to me how christians never say that the bible says kill everyone that talks to you about another god.or if you work on the sabath you must be killed.if you worship the moon or the sun you must be killed.the bible tells you how to and how much you can beat your slaves.it says women are not to preach, they are to keep silence.i bet kings n.c. does not even read the bible, ill go so far as to say they must all have a very low i.q.
I think the most telling part of this whole thing was watching a woman completely rewrite her views on slavery, on camera no less, after finding out it really was in the bible after all. Now, like any good "moral" person who knows slavery is wrong, she first tried to deny that it was in the bible, but once she read it herself... suddenly slavery wasn't so bad. And they call atheists the "moral relativists".
Same old Klan mentality. I don't think they are all bad people, but just ignorant and sheltered. People who are crippled by illigitimate fear over some 'other.' Can't but help feel sorry for them as well as the people they are attacking.
"we've had a lot of prayer services up here, people have gotten saved up here..so the lord's been doing a lot of amazing things" uh yeah no. they've been selling things and making profit from this so called godly mission. pure bs christians are such hypocrites
This is absolutely outrageous that in the days of 2012 the most technically advanced country is flourished with this barbaric culture and this kind of stupidity.
"I would kick that god in the balls." - Nick, freethinker.
Of the many good scenes in this film, this is my favorite. Anyone who tells you to commit a villainous act (such as killing innocent people) is a VILLAIN. We don't accept "I was just following orders" as an excuse for committing atrocities when the orders come from an asshole in a uniform, why should we accept them from an asshole in a burning bush?
That is one of the very best explorations of grass roots American religious belief that I've seen. A brilliant piece of documentary film-making. I takes a great deal of personal empathy and compassion to gain the trust of so many people, across so many traditions, and have their co-operation throughout the whole process. 'Well done' seems like weak praise, but - Well done! And thank you.
"It took it took one person to .. to cause this whole mess to start. And ... unfortunately we should kick that.. kick the guys butt. We should. And ... extend a christian hand to pick him off the ground after we beat the crap out of him. … I mean it du,du don’t sound very Christian but you know what? I’m tired of turning the other cheek. I am." O_o
I guess christians won’t stand being a minority in the US anymore. God, I look forward to the day that they can overcome such hardships here and maybe, just maybe …one day … one of them will become President of the United States of America. *rolleyes*
This should be declared the video of the year. It seems that the Christian church rules in America, not the state! Church with no respect for those who died for the U.S. state or the heroes still alive! I can't save my faith in God, as a Christian, after acknowledging this, other than declaring myself Agnostic, from now on. I am not capable to be a hypocrite condemning others for killing their children (1:30) and accept any religious excuses that start with "God asked me!" ( see again1:00)
So beautifully done. Very low-key, non-confrontational and yet when Christians of all stripes were shown dramatic, scriptural contradictions it was so powerful. Can't believe those fundamentalist freaks who, in the end, couldn't even allow a DAY of honoring the wishes of an atheist. That's so disrespectful and shocking. I can't comprehend how they can even profess to be Christians.
We are a people of different faiths, but we are one. Which faith conquers the other is not the question; rather, the question is whether Christianity stands or falls.... We tolerate no one in our ranks who attacks the ideas of Christianity... in fact our movement is Christian. We are filled with a desire for Catholics and Protestants to discover one another in the deep distress of our own people.
-Adolf Hitler
I couldn't help think of this quote as I watched in horror...
Excellent video. Some is painful to watch. I feel the days of official Christianity and organized religion are running out unless the believers set aside these hateful attitudes and doctrinal fights and instead take care of the poor, the orphans, the elderly, and yes, even the animals. Some have said that Saint Francis of Asisi was "the only Christian" because he lived out the life of simplicity and love. All other roads lead to disaster. Some of the people in this video need counseling.
Notice the flags they are not American flags. These people don't want America, they want a theocracy, a Christian version of Taliban. While at the same time, most of them are not familiar with all the crazy shit their bible teaches them. They don't even follow the 10 commandments. How many christians you know who don't covet? How many christians you know who gave away their possessions to the poor (Luke 12:33, Matthew 19:24)?
At 1:02:54 and 1:42:07 there is a Real Man. At 1:29:40, 1:31:43, 1:39:41 and 1:40:50 there is a Real Woman. By questioning uncertainties thinking occurs, then knowledge and joy. Blessed be.
If I were to see a box, claimed that it's color was blue and you were to see the very same box, claiming that it was red...would you slight me... make fun of me...make me appear to be crazy? I would not do this to anyone. It is the same for Christians and non- believers. I would never slight anyone for their unbelief and would in turn expect the same. For every issue that stands, there will be more than one opinion.
@19844bella Your description is wrong. You claim that there's a blue box, someone in the other part of the world claims that this box is red. Another person claims there are many boxes, all green. None of you can see any of the boxes and you all are unable to prove they exist. I can see no boxes just like you, therefore I claim there is none. Show me one, I'll agree with you. Replace the boxes with gods, unicorns, elves, dragons. It's all the same. I'm an atheist, of course.
@19844bella Just for simply being a christian is insulting to other people. Not all religions can be right and all are mutually inclusive. Christians believe the faithless are going to burn for eternity, that is sick and for someone wishing it to be true makes that person sick. We're not talking about the color of boxes, it's about the actual beliefs christians have concerning reality and how the universe works.
@snoweyeball I don't know the name of that song. It is a very old Blue Grass one that a friend of mine named Bruce Burgess performed on his CD and gave me permission to use. Bruce did a great rendition, I thought, that fit in perfectly with that part.
The days of Christianity are numbered...so are the days of Judaism and Islam. All three of those religions have proven to be nothing but trouble for the human race!
I want..no..I need a new religion. Like the Jedi Order...err, heck, maybe something even better than that!
That's the key...we need to create a new system of beliefs that helps us to evolve out of our present dilemma. Liberals need not apply...they've been working hand-in-glove with the Banksters to enslave us!
This video brilliantly showcases the childish ignorance and naked stupidity of those who adhere to a prison belief system. Dogmatic fundamentalists have volunteerily consigned themselves to a tiny box of perception and reality. These people need to reclaim their rationality and take back their minds.
This is not a christian verses atheist documentary. There are many christians in this documentary who totally disagree with these fundamentalists. It needs people, of all creeds and none, of good heart to stand together against this move to totalitarianism.
This is such a great documentary! I loved every minute of it. I especially enjoyed the part where you asked various people about slavery in the Bible. That was great!
"That doesn't sound very Christian but you know what? I'm tired of turning the other cheek." It's a scary time to be an outspoken advocate. Christians are scary people.
they are all pretty dumb but without a doubt the undertone of racism is not such an undertone. What they fail to realize this country is forever changed, ever since Bush and 911. Its never going back to the "good old days" because good ol days means good ol boys and the rest of us aint having that no more. These "good people" are responsible for lynchings and separatism, they wreak of hatred. Nope sorry you losers the good ol days are gone forever.
These bible pounders ought to come and live here in Utah where Mormons run the state. When they talk about god and faith, right and wrong and truth, that is not the same as these Christians' notions of those things. These Christians would believe separation of church and state is a necessary thing. Not Mormon? Not very welcome. Though I have to give them a lot more credit that the KKKristians in this video.
The founding fathers entertained the idea that Jesus was a mythical character. They believed in separation of church and state. I could care less about crosses or even moon and star symbols in American military cemeteries. I grew up christian faced the contradictions and hypocrisy of that sheep farm. If you think you can kick me out because I won't swallow lies in the form of faith you are wrong. Christians will lie, steal and murder for what they make truth. They are cruel hypocrites.
Ok i am going to leave you all to your own. I do challenge you to see if Christians will attack you like i have been attacked here. I mean come'on there is pure hate being incited by your film and how you presented it. The meaning of your communication is the response you get...and i see lots of hate here. I have the ability to film and looks like i need to do one of my own. Can i have your permission to use some of your footage?
@theSeductionKing That's because we are sick of having to up with your foolishness. I bet what you know about the bible, its origins and/or anything else could be put on a postage stamp. We are all grown now, time to forget all about Santa. We know the bible is a myth, for you idiots to still be taking it serious is really hard to live with. I think its time we all separate, you religious folks can all be together...no hard feelings, we just don't need to hear your shit anymore.
@theSeductionKing "Your job"... LOL See what we mean you moron? "Your job"? I bet that's got something to do wih sheep, goat separation doesn't it? LOL See why I hate Christians?
No atheist is saying that Xtians are going to hell. People shouldn't be condemned for what they believe but beliefs without evidence deserve condemnation.
How many times do we hear: "Blah blah; religious nonsense; you and homosexuals are going to hell; America is Christian; I'm a hate-filled, angry human being; God loves me the best!! I really believe this because it is what I really believe; it feels true in my heart; or God told someone to tell someone else to write it in his book." Why never, "The evidence suggests that...." or "I read a non-fiction book...."
"Blah blah blah...where's my flag? Oh my GOD someone stole my Jesus flag!!!"
CHRISTIANS DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHTS THEY THINK THEY HAVE IN AMERICA! This is EXACTLY what is wrong with religion. It allows bigots, racists and ethnocentric Americans to express their hateful opinions as if they were virtues.
@theSeductionKing Apparently, you don't understand the difference between beliefs and knowledge. A belief is when a person lacks understanding. Knowledge is when a person understands. If a person understands how 2+2=4, then they can't call it just a belief. OTOH, if a person doesn't understand, then it's only a belief. The leftist atheists, as you refer to us, want knowledge in government; They do not want a government telling us what beliefs to have.
@gotrootdude You spouting the same kind of Dogma you accuse the other side of...but you too are blind to how you and all the other commenters are doing it with the same driving emotion...hate for Christians. Just look at the comments? How many Christians do you have saying thank you? This is a set up to pander to anti-Christians...admit it! Ye shall know them by their fruits...and the fruit you produced tastes like hate to me. The Nazis didnt think they were hateful either.
@theSeductionKing You're right. Every day I talk about how all Christians are going to a fictional hell for not believing in atheism. I'm really working hard at brainwashing them to be skeptical of beliefs.
@theSeductionKing "Its happening because the leftist atheists have a solid hold on the media" Actually Rupert Murdock owns most of the media and he is far right. So, please get your facts straight before uttering such nonsense.
I would like this video have subtitles as I do not understand quikly speaked english but I can read it very well, and this documentary interest me very much; so please could you put it subs?
wow you can tell some of them are lying there ass off.. i wonder if any one has ever read it. i wonder how many of them realize they dont have to beleive
What a one sided set up this video is! Find a bunch of Southern Christians with accents and not the best representatives...and then get the best well spoken opposition and make a movie to make Christian look like crap.
Wonder who made this film?
I think i have and idea
Anyone that looks at this and thinks its true is as close minded as the way the producers made these Christians look like.
@theSeductionKing I FUCKING LIVED IN THE TOWN WHEN THIS HAPPEN...this movie is 100% accurate.the people in the town are just pissed off because you can see how redneck they are. It looked like the fuckin crusades in the town. In town meeting the manager refered to them as "THOSE PEOPLE"...
@theSeductionKing I did not seek out this story, it just happened around me where I live so I recorded it. My profession is as an artist and this is my first documentary -- just me with a camera, no crew, or funding, or anything. I did no narration, so it is the words of both sides in their own voices. There are educated Christians like James Dunn, Brent Walker, and Rev. Barry Lynn who support Separation of Church and State, so I don't think you can say I only put in the extreme Christian view.
@ScottBurdickArt If you know about the mind and how the mind works you would know how ignorant that statement is. You had an agenda whether conscious or unconscious or maybe a little of both. You used the power of editing to try and destroy a group of people. Nothing different that Goebbels did for Hitler. Most of those folks who died in that Cemetery for your right to have a one sided view on film... were Christians. Separation meant not having a certain church running things... not exclude!
Thanks for the documentary. It is a really, really good work.

Excellent job. Thanks for compiling that kaleidoscope.
I wonder if people would see the light if there was a Baptist flag or a Presbyterian flag or a Catholic flag hoisted.
They might realize that anybody can feel excluded if you slice and dice group membership long enough.

Hercules2345 3 weeks ago
@Hercules2345 I am very sorry that you are discriminated against and I won't, can't and don't care to try to force anything, including my faith on anyone. I do try and am learning more how to "put myself in other shoes". I can't speak for others, but I if I find myself starting to feel as if I'm better than any one group or person all it does is make me smaller and destructive to myself. I'm am sorry for those who have put you down for your beliefs. I truly am sorry.
filmingvision 3 weeks ago

BoyInfidel 2 weeks ago

While this film did provide a wonderfully diverse selection of interviews, the way it was presented at times was fundamentally flawed. It's the filmmaker's job to give everyone/thing a fair shake, present it unadultered as possible to the audience, and let them decide. Prodding some of the interviewees further into rationalizing their thoughts as was done here is reasonable, but repeatedly resorting to SUPER CLOSE UP shots and creepy music to instill a sense of discomfort is uncalled for.
darkt0aster 1 month ago
@darkt0aster Well, I thought of using happy music when people were telling me about how they'd kill women and children if god asked (or that slavery isn't immoral because it's sanctioned in the Bible) but it just didn't seem to fit that well.
ScottBurdickArt 1 month ago 16
@ScottBurdickArt IMHO, those segments could (and probably should) have stood on their own without assistance. Anyone on their side of the fence is going to see it as blatant demonizing and take the rest of the film even less seriously. The rest of us are more than capable of figuring out for ourselves that some of those answers are, in fact, really %&@#ing scary. I don't mean to nitpick too much, just my $0.02. I still really enjoyed it overall. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
darkt0aster 1 month ago

And their logical inconsistencies were quite apparent, even without the music lol
matics19 1 month ago
@matics19 Agree, I just think that the less obvious the influence of the filmmaker, the better. The music and closeups felt a little too heavy-handed to me and things like that can potentially interfere with or detract from the point being made. I loved it otherwise. It's not often when we get to see such a wide and well composed set of viewpoints on a single issue.
darkt0aster 1 month ago
@darkt0aster Where is written that "It's the filmmaker's job to give everyone/thing a fair shake"?
stlstg 3 weeks ago
@stlstg Just to clarify, "fair shake" doesn't mean a film can't have a leaning or opinion. It means that both sides can say their bit without obstruction. It's not mandatory, but a good practice if one hopes to provide the most accurate and complete picture and influence the widest selection of audiences, especially on a topic/situation like this. The rest of the film can still be structured around it to convey a message (as this was) so the editing I described earlier felt unnecessary.
darkt0aster 3 weeks ago
@stlstg I lived there, and was directly affected because of my relationship with one of the families involved. The film is too kind to the local 'Christians'. He gave them more then a fair shake. He just didnt have to give them a lot of rope to hang themselves with. How many times did he totally own that so called lady 'preacher'. What do u need to qualify for that except book and a open hand for donations.

Belief is an interesting phenomenon that exists everywhere. We (as human beings) accept so much without empirical grounds for our belief. The city I live in banned fluoride from the drinking water because of unfounded scares. And now my provincial government is going to legitimize homeopathic practices. They actually are everybody's (who is not one of them) enemy. Look up "dominionism" on Google. They want to tear down the constitution and replace it with their version of the old testament. What is right is protecting freedoms for all people not just majorities. A majority Christian population does not make this a Christian country. There is no place for religious views in our Secular government.

Of the many good scenes in this film, this is my favorite. Anyone who tells you to commit a villainous act (such as killing innocent people) is a VILLAIN. So beautifully done. Very low-key, non-confrontational and yet when Christians of all stripes were shown dramatic, scriptural contradictions it was so powerful.

Christians believe the faithless are going to burn for eternity, that is sick and for someone wishing it to be true makes that person sick. We're not talking about the color of boxes, it's about the actual beliefs christians have concerning reality and how the universe works.

And people wonder why Christianity is depleting and atheism is not.
eldiceuf 1 month ago
@eldiceuf Its happening because the leftist atheists have a solid hold on the media and can use its power to brainwash people... that's it!
If the Christians used the media like the religious left did it would be the other way around.
But none of you are honest enough to admit it.

This is Propaganda at its best!

@steelbreeze420 you sound like a real objective kind of person...i think i would choose to live with them...wow!
And nothing is 100% accurate
this movie is as biased as they come...you just cant see it because you so badly want it to be true
