Nice idea showing the disembarkation. Would love to go on the Chunnel by car but more likely to travel by train all the way and hire at the other end.
so wait. you have to put your car on the train to get from paris to london? if they made a tunnel for a train to go, why not have one for cars to drive over?
Because cars do stupid things, like crash into each other, trucks go on fire etc etc. The channel tunnel train can be organised and operated in a safe manner.
For accidents in tunnels see the "Mon Blanc Tunnel" accident and look at the chaos that caused.
@pennylane36 driving 'through' a tunnel isn't as fun as you'd think. Try the 25 km Gotthard tunnel in Switserland. You go nuts after a while. Just for that reason, people are made to drive slow and have quite some distance in between.
Also, more individuals mean more chances of mistakes and accidents. Things you don't want inside a tunnel.
I know, I would also have liked to drive it myself. But in the end, it's just a bad idea.
@pennylane36 simple!have you ever driven behind a drunk,drugged up,angry,sleepy or driver? trust me,i work on these trains most people cant even drive 400m in a STRAIGHT LINE let alone 50km...
Oddly enough I was watching your video while listening to Joy Division's "Dead Souls" and the length of the video was almost the same length of the instrumental intro part of the song. Very cool coincidence.
I thought the tunnel would have at least double (highway track) lines but it just has a single and that is slow too.

Because there's no way in which they can get all the emisions from cars exhausts. The tunnel would become full of smoke in a short time.
