Lol I just watched the video where Phil confessed his love for you and you were just talking about sitting down with some strange foreigner because you were sure he wasn't going to kill you XD
you did the right thing by avoiding him. just cause he seems nice doesnt mean wont hurt you. personally i would have kicked him in the nuts if i were you
ha right when you said a guy gave you a rose i knew what was going to happen :) i was visiting my friend in spain when a gypsie did the same thing to me and ended up getting mugged. glad you got out ok!!
which music did u choose for that video?!?!?! i mean at 0:45 oh my god!!! that's so embarassing! u should have chose "roma, nun fa la stupida sta sera"! i'm from Italy,so i know what i say! ='(
@cerysiscomfortablex Thanks :) Lindsey actually mentioned in a video not too long ago that they are still together and she doesn't know why everyone thought they weren't. I was just curious cuz they'd spent a long time apart and hadn't mentioned one another in a while
Wow, I don't have the guts to travel alone in a foreign place. Besides having no sense of direction, I am rather oblivious, so I need someone with me to keep me from getting lost. There are also a lot of pick-pockets in Italy. I remember the people in Rome trying to sell us flowers, but man... that guy who followed you sounds really creepy. You did the right thing. Good choice about following the main roads as well. Not good for a girl to travel alone along alleyways.
A couple of my friends from Europe told me that there's a rumor that American girls go to Europe to lose their virginity. Soooo, if some guy's like "I have 40 minutes..." he probably wants to take you somewhere and bang you.
almost every tourist-y place has tons of scam artist that give u stuff for "free", then run up and go wait u didnt pay. lol some ppl jst randomly start painting pictures of u then ask u to pay for it.
oh and if someone says "i'm not a killer" over and over, and then follows you for 30 minutes, you should be scared. normal ppl dont walk up to strangers and say "i'm not a killer" over and over
i've been there too but do not take a free flower cause most of the time they will follow you and trying to let you pay for the flower but its still a very beautifull place to go!
I think you did the right thing, you should never trust a stranger, especially in a unknow city. If you'd follow him, you'd never know where he's taking you!
Italian men are like that, they do it to get in to your pants. They can be really obnoctious and in your face about it. It's really rude. They do it especially towards blond chicks, because you stand out there.
And those flower guys are just thieves. They are all over europe, I think they are romanians (gupsy's). They also are very scary, because sometimes they behave aggressive and won't let you go on your way... It's all oraganised crime.
I think you handled that creepy guy the way you should have. He could have wanted to kill you, he could have wanted to date you, he could have wanted to do a lot of different things, but I doubt he just wanted to sit and talk with you when he barely speaks your language.
Stay away from the people dressed up as gladiators looking to take your picture. It's free until they come chasing you for money. Just keep walkin, Lindz. If you wanna buy something, suggest 50% of what the street vendors are asking for it. Point in a random direction and say the guy over there is selling it cheaper. They make a point of ripping off Americans. And for God's sake do not eat ANYWHERE near the Vatican. You'll be hungry and exhausted but do not even sit down. They will charge you.
I hope you see this Lindsey (if that's how you spell your name) but you shouldn't feel guilt for knocking some strange dude back. Especially if he stoops to trying to make you feel bad about not wanting to go with some random bloke.
Nice video Linz! I'm an american studying in Florence right now, and you definitely did the right thing, with both guys. Basically any time you acknowledge a stranger on the streets in Italy it's kind of a cultural green light. Better to just let them go on their way, don't feel bad about it, it's what the Italians do! I'm excited to see more of your experiences. Hope you get a chance to visit Firenze!
Hey, when you do your hostel video you should include things about security, I'd like to know about items being stolen etc because I've never stayed in a hostel. please and thanks :D
Liz I think you did the right thing turning that guy down. Maybe if he joked once like I don;t have a gun, but to keep saying it. Even then though, this guy was getting you uncomfortable and it must be scary traveling alone and having to face stuff like that. Looking at rome reminds me too much of Assassin's Creed xDD
Are you travelling alone? I'd find it scary, especailly if strange Italian men were following me round. & him saying he wasn't going to kill you just made it sound more like he was.. :D Looks like fun.
You were right not to go anywhere with the guy who was chatting to you, even if he wasn't a killer he could have been planning on taking your camera, wallet, keys etc. I wouldn't trust anyone that just started chatting to me and offering to take me places! it only takes that 1 wrong person to f**k up your holiday.
So I went to Rome last summer and I've found that Italian men are kind of obsessed with girls with blonde hair. I swear! My best friend has dark brown hair (she's gorgeous) and they weren't interested in being creepy towards her at all. Just me. With my super blonde hair.
Sacrestia means Sacristy and that is a room for keeping vestments (such as the alb and chasuble) and other church furnishings, sacred vessels, and parish records.
Wow, so because you were uncomfortable he automatically assumed it was because you found him unattractive. That's pretty fucked up and you shouldn't have felt bad.
When we went to the Vatican, we found out that if you spend only 3 seconds in front of every piece of art in the entirety of the Vatican, you'll end up spending 57 continual years looking at art.
I remember it took me and my wife forever to find that dumb Trevi Fountain. We were like "is this random looking fountain thing it?" Answer? It wasn't.
I would of told him I do have a knife and I am a killer... since we are being honest... now get the F away from me. I don't, honest :p
Nice guys would not insult or guilt you (oh I am too ugly for you), so you did good to lose him, IMO. Besides, you are not looking for a new man, I presume, eh?
Still, I never understood small people who travel alone. I can handle myself, but you should travel with a friend IMO. Too many creeps looking for a mark. A gf can help you out... Just sayin
i would feel so uncomfortable if someone came up to me and kept repeating "i'm not a killer i don't have a gun or a knife" I would do exactly what you did, make and excuse and walk away
lol im a 3rd generation italian and i go to visit cuz i still have family living in italy. there are creeps EVERYWHERE! and not just in italy but all over europe, but mainly in italy. wat ur experiancing is the italian version of a pickup like. happened to my mom while she was holding my dads hand, yep. desperate is way different over there.
I hate when ppl shove things into your hand even tho you say no and then ask you to pay for it! Like WTF I said no! It happens in NYC all the time. Super annoying.
and if you havnt already, get gelatto (idk spelling) while your there its amazing theres usually a gelatto place on almost every corner :) oh! and theres a pretty good pizza place by the trevi fountain btw!
My friend and I went to New York City last year and this guy came up to us and put hats on our heads and then tried to sell them to us. All I could think of was, Get that lice infested thing off my head before I freak out! lol
i would have chased roberto down and been like u no wat i was creeped out but i didnt turn u down cause ur ugly i turned u down cause i have a boy friend and then turned and walked away i hate when people just assume shit at first i thought creeper then i thought player trying to pick up a chick and now i thing douche lord so F him
A friend of mine went to Italy, guys did the same kind of stuff to her, even in groups. It's crazy apparently, though you did the right things in those situations. Kudos!
You have to watch out for the guys that sell random things. Aside from the creep factor, they try and con you out of money. And, once they realize you have money, they don't leave you alone.
About Roberto... you did the right thing. Completely. No need to feel bad at all!
Rose thing is very common. In Europe they'll ask to "show you" something like a bracelet, then they'll actually tie it to your wrist, so you have to pay for it. And especially if your alone do not talk to strangers, A few words in a public place is all that should be exchanged.
Linz, Piece of advice from the bottom of my heart.
Never travel alone, atleast take one Gal pal or two.
Different cultures treat women differently, never accept a strangers advice when they tell you to go somewhere and never follow anyone out of a public place.
I sang in that Bascillica!! My high school choir did a 10 day tour of Rome and I got to sing in some of the most amazing churches on the planet: St. Marks in Venice, the Baptistry in Pisa, Santa Croce in Florence...just to name a few. We started in Venice and ended our trip in Rome. :)
The guy giving you a rose was a common type of "scam" (at least in europe), it's basically always the same thing and it can happen everywhere, for example in a train.
Someone comes along, puts gives you something "for free" and after a while they come back, tell some bullshit story and want money for it. So just don't accept it =)
You did the right thing about that guy, just mention your boyfriend and walk along, this /is/ italy after all, guys handle women very differently there.
sacrestia comes from the latin sacer which means holy. so nothing creepy :) oh and you definitely did the right thing about the guy. italian men can be a little... forward. better safe than sorry!
it would be more fun to see you and phil in these places together. I am really enjoying your views of everything, very nice footage just think the commentary with both of you would be more enjoyable because we'd be seeing the man and womans point of view of everything. course with phil there'd probably be a lot more shots of scantily clad women in all these places too lol

My friend and I went to New York City last year and this guy came up to us and put hats on our heads and then tried to sell them to us. All I could think of was, Get that lice infested thing off my head before I freak out! lol

A friend of mine went to Italy, guys did the same kind of stuff to her, even in groups. It's crazy apparently, though you did the right things in those situations. Kudos!
obankobi 1 year ago
You have to watch out for the guys that sell random things. Aside from the creep factor, they try and con you out of money. And, once they realize you have money, they don't leave you alone.
About Roberto... you did the right thing. Completely. No need to feel bad at all!

its awesome to see all these monuments when I'm learning about them right now xD

Linz, the trevy fountain IS down an alley....haha :)

I'm Italian. I know our men, and they'll say anything to have sex. Roberto probably wanted to get laid. Killer? Possible. But he wanted sex.

Nice vid.

@LinzLoves I've always wanted to travel the way you are, how much did the two trips cost for you?

it would be more fun to see you and phil in these places together. I am really enjoying your views of everything, very nice footage just think the commentary with both of you would be more enjoyable because we'd be seeing the man and womans point of view of everything. course with phil there'd probably be a lot more shots of scantily clad women in all these places too lol
