However, Fuudo was being formal in the interview. It was, let's say, disturbing enough for him to not understand a word of what Zhi translated into English, and his face showed that he wasn't comfortable with it. At least respect that and keep it professional.
@11:48, calling him "lazy" and pointing at him with your hand that way is extremely rude and unprofessional. A bit of humor is ok, but you're interviewing him as a highly-ranked contestant, not as a friend.
Now I have to access the srk forums through a proxy server just to view the cody subforums. Wish shoryuken mods would at least message or email me to state why they banned me.
I had made a thread on shoryuken talking about this video since they are responsible for the setups at evo. I got quite a few responses but then the thread got deleted a week later. I couldn't even find it in my history. I tried making the thread again a couple of days later but that got deleted not even a minute later. I then tried to send a message to a mod asking what was going on and then a message on the page says that I have been IP banned. Weird right?
Just do the whole interview in Japanese and hook us up with subtitles, too much is lost or changed when you're doing on the spot translation, like when you didn't translate the part about the CRT monitors and how foodo said he won more matches than lost against daigo but the zheeip translated it as "bodied daigo."
There's going to be some delay no matter what console you have, when you compare it to the lagless arcade machines, 360 doesn't feel any less laggier than the PS3. Just be thankful EVO isn't being ran on the wii.
This is Zhieeep. I'd like to make some amendments to the interview. According to Fuudo, the lag was most likely induced by the monitor and setups, NOT the PS3, since Fuudo and the Japanese team had a PS3 in their hotel room played on an old, CRT monitor and they felt no lag. Many apologies for the mistake, it was hard to concentrate since Kayane, Kayo, Kara and Chocoblanka were all distracting me with beautiful eye candy during the process.
@crosscountertv You guys could ask Spooky for a rudimentary signal flow for his setup to see if lag could be an issue. HDMI cables distribute signals digitally; it's either on or off. Unless it's the monitor, there shouldn't have been much lag. HDTVs will always have lag spikes, maybe that's what he noticed. Monitors at hospitals and airports have the least amount of input lag but are prohibitively expensive for tournaments. Maybe that could get a Viewlix monitor on the main stage next year.
Damn, how many languages Zhi speak? I'm so glad Gootecks and Mike are helping him (& the singapore community) become a lot more well. If all goes well, he'll become the bridge between east and west.
lol. Man, that infomercial for MadCatz sticks is the best I've ever seen. If I didn't already own one, I'd totally rush out to buy one.
I'm not even gonna lie, I'm sad to see that Latif won't be going to SBO to body some Japanese because you know he would. As for Daigo I have no idea what he plans on doing, but thats what happens when you play the most popular character, everybody learns the matchup.
Daigo dropped combo's cause he's human. Tournament jitters. Don't think it could happen? Its Evo. But lag is indeed something that could've been a factor.. but still. Human's make mistakes. Go ahead and make the joke that Daigo isn't human.. Poongko's nickname is The Machine, he dropped combo's.
@shinoobidan I agree with you, Daigo drop some combos whenever he win or lose but pples just notice that if he lose. Daigo, Poongko, Latif, Tokido and of course Fuudo did a really good EVO and are all some incredible players...
@shinoobidan Honestly, Poongko's nickname should be the Beast and Daigo's should be the Machine. Diago is cold, hard, and calculated, and Poongko is random and unpredictable.
Fuudo was able to win becasue he is able to adapt to his opponents play style.....He deserved to win the tourney for playing sooooo well....congrats to him
fuudo deserves to win but i really hoped latif would win this. after defeating daigo, Poongko and tokido i was full of hope. 2nd place is great though.
i was disappointed with fuudo when he said he doesn't respect anyone as a player .
@MonkeyDLuffy77 I think he meant that most player are on the same level but when it comes to players that impress him in term of doing something that is extraordinary, he did mentioned Daigo & Iyo. Can't really judge the translation that was done right on the spot. Could be a little mistake sometimes.
Fuudo is a lot shorter in person, I thought he would be at least Daigo's height. On that note, it was the same for Daigo, Tokido and Mago. They seem so much taller in the videos lol.
Who else here thinks Zhi made an interview of all top 8 and said to all of them "I wouldnt be surprised if this was your new EVO champion." and chose to upload only the one who won?
Hmm, if what Fuudo is saying is true, then EVO should really look into a way to try and reduce or even eliminate the lag from the displays.
I'm not defending Daigo, because Poongkyo and Latif played amazingly to eliminate him from the tournament, but Daigo was dropping combos left and right in the top 8 matches.
@TestingStrat I honestly think it's because nobody plays on PS3. It's entirely possible that people who regularly play on XBOX 360's would need to adjust. I know that's the case with myself.
@TheWeaponsLeft Most players play on 360, but there are many top players that play on PS3 like Shiro, Haneyama, Poongko, PR Rog, and Combfiend, among others.
Adapting to the frame delay difference between the two consoles is not difficult as long as you have access to both and train exclusively on the console that the next tournament that you are attending uses.
@TestingStrat I doubt the lag was what made him drop the combo's, I heard that he wasn't feeling good during the tourney. I mean he plays online any lag he experienced wouldn't compare to what he normally sees, as well as the fact that no one else was dropping nearly as many combos. I just think he wasn't able to focus.
@TestingStrat competition is better than ever before. if ur not on ur game then u will get bodied. which is exactly what happened to Daigo. the days of Justin and Daigo dominating is over. i do believe that..next year look for a different EVO champs for both AE and Marvel. when Daigo won back to back EVOs in 2009 and 2010. that will be the last time anyone will win back-to-back titles in SF. and Justin winning 7 EVOs in Marvel 2...those days are LONG gone LOL
Daigo got read like a book in some matches....he had some tough competition. These cats have been playing fighting games for at least ten years, which is what it takes to master an advanced craft.
Big ups to the Japanese players for making top 8 and to Fuudo for winning, but you got to admit they did tier whore this tournament. Can't wait for the new balance patch at the end of the year. @skiie This is partially correct. I ran into 2 yuns in pools back to back. Before losing to Fei then got beaten in losers by the same Yun I sent to losers. On another note, there was a wider variety of characters in the tourney than yun/fei/akuma. In between breaks I walked around to different stations and seen alot of characters being played. Mainly to my surprise Ryu/Vega/Bison were in abundance.
@Ladas18 Tier whoring??? how bout you go play Fei and win Evo. Stop discrediting the player. Fuudo option selected every one of Poongko's moves and did the max punish possible. Props to his sick play
@DiscPriestHeals He's a very good player but that doesn't change that not using Fei would've meant he had less options, the opponent would've been less scared, and it would've taken him more correct plays - which would've been harder to do due to less options - to take the opponent down.
No one with a brain thinks tier whoring gives a free win. It just sometimes give people a big advantage, see: Daigo vs Tokido and Arturo Sanchez.
Great interview Zhi. I hope to see more interviews with other Japanese, Korean, or any other Asian players in the future. I'm glad Mike and Gootecks are able to expand Cross Counter TV because it gives us more opportunities to know different competitors in different countries other than our own U.S. communities. I feel like the world gets smaller and closer with stuff like this especially for the fighting game community.
@ispsagel50 I agree! You really have to dig around for information on the overseas players. I feel CC is doing the fighting game community a huge favor by having these interviews so we can get to know these players overseas that aren't named Daigo.
Keep up the good work, CC. I really enjoy these vids.
It's no surprise he did so well. Fuudo is a Virtua Fighter champion. Do you know how many Ph.D and Doctorate degrees you need to play that game? Tu meni.
@MMagentaHH The Virtua Fighter series is considered by many the hardest fighting game to master. It is also extremely balanced. I've yet to see anyone complain about a character in VF.
I wonder what Fuudo would say about Latif taking out Tokido, Daigo, and Poongko in a row. He had to fight three of the biggest names in SF in a row... I would have a Fn heart attack. Best Seth Line- Every time my butt hits this seat something explosive happens.
Fuudo is right. there is a little input lag on those screens.

@Rafael2487Casual "Kindevu=Fat" Kindevu is a nice guy, his personality can't be defined with something that stupid.

Tu meni.

@Tenrou2 lawl what, why is that?
how in depth is that game, anything like 3s?
MMagentaHH 7 months ago
@MMagentaHH
I play 3rd Strike every day and Virtua Fighter is much more complex than that game.
Tenrou2 7 months ago
@MMagentaHH The Virtua Fighter series is considered by many the hardest fighting game to master. It is also extremely balanced. I've yet to see anyone complain about a character in VF.

Who else here thinks Zhi interviewd all of top 8 and said to all of them "I would not be surprised if this was your new EVO champion"?
Samson1117 7 months ago
I wonder what Fuudo would say about Latif taking out Tokido, Daigo, and Poongko in a row. He had to fight three of the biggest names in SF in a row... I would have a Fn heart attack. Best Seth Line- Every time my butt hits this seat something explosive happens.
