@sadlobster1 I don't speak a word of Japanese, and I don't know how to spell it, but I think he said :"hahawe" and I believe it means Mom; in the same way when Nobutada is speaking with his father he calls him: "chichiwe"
@jaimesamuraie Haha-ue and Chichi-ue are outdated and no longer in common use but they are much more formal than Otou-san and Okaa-san which is the standard of today.
Maybe my japanese is not good enough, but doesn't she actually say: 'He reached his long-cherished dreams as a samurai. You also did only what you had to do.' And i don't get the last sentence, its just something with 'feelings..' but not complete or is this a short version of a term that actually means something like 'I accept your apology'?
the movie is excellent, though the history is very different. The man the movie is based on was french, not American, and he sided with a Shogun who refused to relinquish military power to his emperor. It makes a wonderful movie this way though.
the translation is not really good here, she said there was no need for apologize as both men did their duty and her husband lost his life in honor, but she really appreciates his words..
What an out of the worldly reply? Took me out of my mental bountries to see a totally different world, a world that will say - he did his duty and you did your duty. A world where feelings of possession has no value or has just faded away and only the essence is valued. When lost in the world of wealth, power and feelings it takes movies and events like this to puch us one step further to scrutinize ourselves in a more deeper manner.
No no...the final scene where he goes back to Taka and small measure of peace is blaring in the background........if u can though....much appreciated....:-D
What was the word Magojiro said, when he entered the room?

@jaimesamuraie As opposed to Oka-san and Oto (otou?) san, which I think is more formal: Mother and Father respectively

@fynnfish I was about to post a comment about how she couldn't possibly have just said those lines, so thanks for detailing the actual translation.
GothJoe 2 weeks ago
@fynnfish The last part is along the lines of 'I appreciate your sentiment', though that's implied. She says 'Only the feeling...' (literally)

For anybody who cares, the title does NOT refer to Tom Cruise's character; it refers to Katsumoto and his warriors.

can a man change his destiny?
I think a man does what he can till his destiny is revealed.

@MrRo330 indeed. that movie should replace all history books in our schools. Eve Taka must be the genuine typical woman intended by god.
