  • It seems like stock vipers are so slow for being v10's but have so much potential to be the amazing cars like the one you see here!

  • I pass by one on the way to school :P.. Then every few days I see one driving around. There are quite a few where I live. I live in Pearland TX, hardly close to a rich area, but there are alot of nice cars here. There are about 15 muscle cars just in a 1 mile radius where I live.

    Here's one. Ariel Atom 500. It's not even $200,000 and it holds the WORLD RECORD for the fastest lap of the Nurburgring @ 6:53.

    So what if the Atom's only got 500BHP? What was the last Yank Tank to offer more than that from an under 3L engine? The Atom runs 2.4. Says a lot for British tuning.

  • Technically, it doesn't hold the fastest lap time on the Nurburgring. That title goes to Stefan Bellof's 956 which set a 6:11.13 lap time on May 28, 1983. Second place goes to the BMW 832 driven by Christian Danner in April of that same year. It posted a 6:28.03. Both these laps were set on the current 20.832 km track, which was redone in 1983.

    With that said however, yes, the Ariel Atom 500 is a hell of a machine. British tuning can do wonders with low displacement engines.

  • incorrect. i just read it up again. the venom ran 800 at launch for more control and progressively built power with speed and peaking out at 1100whp.

  • Ehh not necessarily. Dragsters ring a bell? Besides, there is limited space to stop. The brakes can probably stop it just fine, just not in time. The chute is merely a way to stop before the end of the straight. A parachute is more effecient to use than massive brakes, and safer. Otherwise they would have just used only brakes.

  • I am not kidding. The brakes will "function", but not in time. The Viper's brakes are very stout, but if you watch some drag racing, see what happens to the car when the 'chute doesn't deploy - the car ends up in the sand trap or safety net at the end of the strip's shutdown area. I would not want to rely on just the footbrake @ 220mph. The 2008 NHRA Rulebook under Super Gas states, Parachute - Mandatory on any car with top speed faster than 150 mph. 'Nuff said.

  • agreed, top fuel dragsters use some of the best brakes, carbon fiber, and even they need a chute, going 220 mph is an EXTREME amount of heat to be dissapated through the brakes and to expect that they will stop u in time isnt that great of an idea, unless u want to warp the rotors by stomping on the until the car stops

    HPE raised the vipers horse power to 1050 for every test they done and gave it an aerodynamics upgrade to drop drag coefficient to .39 as well. had none of that happened the viper would've been roasted. and it's funny knowing that the viper is 3400 lbs and the veyron is 4600 lbs and the veyron has much more luxury features.
