  • Did you keep her?

She looks like she will lay her eggs soon..

You are so lucky to get a pregnate female...

  • i better have released it again

  • Not so bug, but pregnant.

  • let the wild insect go.... why are u keeping it ? so it can die ? its not yours to keep

  • its cage ahs 2 be 3 times its size and the hight ahs 2 be 2x his size

  • You really need a bigger cage dude, and ps it's not illegal to cage them but it is illegal to kill them depending on where you live.

  • @SamTehGr8 No it's not. There is no legal restriction regarding any form of killing towards the Praying Mantis.

  • /watch?v=XQgX9TSgm28

    my mantis video :D

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz why is female mantis always bigger then male

  • @zaowaowao222 Because we girls are awesome that's why! And they need to be bigger than the male so that they can devour them after mating. ^ ^

  • he look cramped

  • Comment removed

  • for pretty much every sentence they said u can put a "That's what she said!"

  • Holy shit! It's a big one!

  • Man THats Big

  • Thank God these kids put it in confinement before it killed anymore flies, spiders and other pests. *sarcasm*

  • stupid kids...

  • I;m just a little glad to see it caged. It could have killed us all if it wanted to. Its so beast and wise it just chose not to

  • such a small cage. animal cruilty

  • sock my balls

    it is not even big

  • Biggest Mantis in the smallest cage

  • @vassilis359995 The mantis doesn't need a large terrarium. In fact if you put it in a large one it would have difficulties catching it's prey.

  • dont be a pussy pick da damn thing up

  • dang dude

  • @dizzyblast thats what she said...

  • make the cage bigger

  • The "Box" is to little.....poor Mantis...Fuckin silly kid....sry...

  • LIL BITCH

  • I agree with m5loverx

  • He/she is big, but i would seriously think about letting the poor thing go, he/she will be much happier in the wild. :)

  • You are right, bugs born in captivity do not know what it is like to be free, and so I think its ok to keep them in tanks as long as theres adequate space, infact they may have more comfortable lives

  • its not a paw and you sound like a girl

  • OMFGHE! HOLY SHIT!

  • JESUS CHRIST

  • ive seen bigger

  • holy crapholesuperturdalicious!

what i meant to say was,DANG BOY!

  • hahaha, the other kid says its hella big. fucktards

  • You just killed the hugest mantis from your country.. FEEL VERY DAMN BAD!

    rofl..

  • lets cram your ass in a shoe box and see how huge you look. poor mantis.

  • Biggest jailed mantis in kansas city.

and how many times have I heard, ITS HUGE! lmao

  • my mantis is better

  • Cages must be at LEAST 1ftx1ft to keep alive in captivity.. It also must have at least one stick three times longer than it so than can molt, if not its dead.

  • why is it in a so small cage :( poor thing!

  • IT5 HUUUUGE!

  • i saw one at the cosmosphere that was like 7 inches long

  • I'm sorry but i saw one the other day that was twice the size on that one... i took a picture of it with my phone.... I was about 11 inches long...

  • Thats because its in that small as cage

  • cmon. mines larger than that

  • wow please stop acting cool ==. u gave me the shivers.

  • looks like the "biggest" mantis in kansas is now going to be the most malnourished

  • faggot

  • thats nowhre near the biggest mantis in kansas you dumbass little kid if you dont know what your talking about then stfu cause all your doing is giveing out false information and this thing obviousy needs to be let go cause your to much of an idiot to take care of it and ifou did keep it which would be wrong... your hould have got a enclosure 4 times as big as that walmart kids toy insect house

  • Actually, this is the largest mantis in North America. It is a female Tenodera Aridifolia, or "Chinese Mantis". It is an introduced species, likely for pest control purposes. They are not effective as pest control, because they are so cannibalistic that their numbers never remain high enough to have much of an effect.

This may not be "The biggest" mantis in Kansas (Allowing for another female of the same species which might be larger), but it IS the biggest species in the United States.

  • yea i know but this kid thinks that its actually the "biggest" one in kansas

  • you should really get a bigger enclosure..

  • Please whoever this person is never say dude ever again x.x

  • gay ass voice you got there

  • never say peace out man again

  • don't give it crickets from the store! it will kill the mantis!!!

  • Keep your camera still while shooting.

  • eBay or pet stores. In the US you can buy the ootheca (egg cases) in garden centres i think, there will be loads of Mantids though!

Good beginner species are Alalomantis Coxalis and Hierodula Membranacea. These get very big though!

  • where do you buy a preying mantis

  • The cage is a little small, it should be 3 times as tall as the length of the mantis. It's actually crueller to keep them in something too big as they struggle to find food. A plactis sweet jar would be good for this Mantis. I seriously doubt it's depressed, it's an insect and is incapable of conscious thought.

Mantids thrive in captivity, they are great pets. They can actually live on a plant in the house without the need for a cage at all

  • yea dude let the guy go he didnt do anything to you, hes prolly really depressed and and going crazy as well just think in a persons prospective you know what i mean : P

  • Damn right gianinline!!

    Best whishes from germany....

  • What crime did that insect commit to deserve being in a cage?! I thought slavery had been abolished, not in someone's house in kansas... i guess.

Why do people "capture" something and deprive it from having a normal life?!

Why won't they go on the street somewhere and catch some person and put inside a cage and post a video on youtube?!...it's no different than what this video shows....

It's time to let go of stupidity!!!

  • come on, take a larger cage ... That mantis is huge so

  • I'm no expert, but like that cage looks a tad small!

  • i wouldn't let it go because they are very easy to take care of but one suggestion get a bigger cage and one with out alot of holes by the size of it it looks like it is about to lay an egg sack

  • LET IT GO!!

    FREEDOM!!!!!

  • let it go it could die

  • It's hard to see how huuuuge it is (dude) if you don't at least compare it to something of standard size, such as a matchbox. Even if it is huuuuge, it's still not that hard to find a larger container...

  • Known as a fact that praying mantis can get up to 30cm and can hunt humming birds

  • Not that big.

  • I can't speak for everywhere but here in Delaware they get really large, and it's not illegal to kill them, that's a myth. I check with our Dept of Natural Resources online and they're not listed as endangered or protected.

  • hahaha Delaware, made me think of Waynes World straight away.

  • that is cool but put it in a cage, not a prison cell!

  • =[

You do know thats illigal right?

    To capture them...

    && keep them in there...

    and to kill them...

but idk if you would do that....

But let the little thinggg gooo!!!!!

  • Not illegal at all.

  • let it go>:(

  • if you don't put it in a bigger cage or back where you found it, i might just find you, steal you, and stuff your nigger ass in a tiny cage with some cheeseburgers.

  • I'm down for that haha.

  • cool vid

  • that's bigger than average, but nothing absolutely huge.

I hate the extremely bad cameraman quality, small child talking, immature way of speaking, about 10x too small enclosure for the mantis, and many other things.

    1 star, this is crap

  • Just in Kansas?? Malaysian Giants & the African Giants will beat that Kansas city of yours. XD LMAO!!

  • haha little rednecks...

  • I think it wants more space than that...

    >.>

  • Nope. Definitely not the biggest. A friend and I walked up on one that came almost up to my knee one night. We ran from it. lol

  • you must have really short legs

  • the biggest in the world is 16-20cm so i dunno how that is possible unlees to are a 3 year old...

  • he is not the biggest My smmallest praying mantis is twice the size of that

  • these guys are 12cm, so you telling me you have 24cm mantids...that would be a world record...

  • they wont bite or pinch unless u piss em off

  • You fail my family found like a 13' at our house and it was FUCKING SCARY

  • there are no 13 foot mantises!!!!

  • yea i know i lied teehee

  • thats a small one...

  • Hope you let him go at some point.

  • why is every animal endangered?

  • They are not endangered that is only a rumor

  • Yeah, and it's completely legal to own one depending on the species. The rumor derived from gardeners and such people because they are good for protecting the vegetation from pests.

  • With nothing to compare it to, there's no way of telling how big it is. Besides, go out and get it a bigger enclosure; treat your animals right.

  • ok people that is not the container i keep it in......i just put it there so i could film it.........i keep it in a 25" tank...........by the way i reeased it and it flew away....... now i have a budwing mantis

  • do they bite??

  • No. Well, at least VVEEEERRRY rarely.

  • the hand has little fangs it stings but doesnt hurt bad

  • they try, the cant really bite hims to well there mouth parts arent big enough nor dor they have "fangs" really.

also thats not the biggest :)

  • 2x width is very small actually

  • im sure they're not going to keep it...and stop complaining...it must be double the length...blah, blah, blah...just compare this with what it goes through outside in winter...

  • i think you should release it. Its not that big and you put it in a box that is too small. the box should be 3x the mantid height and 2x the width

  • ...SMALL

  • It's not that big. Please.

  • I love Mantis, because they're allways so damn Hardcore!!

  • yep its a giant chinese mantis/tenodera.. its the largest known species of mantis. not is that container your keeping it in only making it feel cluster fucked but if it happens to molt/shed over night it wont have any room, it will hit the bottom of the conatiner and its new shell will harden in a way that will leave it deformed.. plz get a bigger tank with sticks for it to hang on or just let it go

  • OMG, I have the same container!

  • That's a Giant Chinese Mantis. Since you obviously don't know what you're doing by containing it in something so small, I suggest you RELEASE IT. You wouldn't want to be shoved inside a box made for a television with nothing but a turkey sandwich, so I suggest you let him on his merry way.

  • put it in a decent sized cage you downer, or better yet release it.

  • i live in kansas to but not kansas city i live in derby

  • It looks larger then most . . . just

    how large is it???

  • Mantis like sticks to perch on btw

  • Nice size BTW It looks like the mantis is losing its green color which is a sign of it starving so I would feed it If I were you.

  • let it go

  • Green stripes at the sides - it looks like Tenodera Sinensis - they grow up to 12 cm.

By the way - it is just stuid to keep a big mantis in such a small container - it should be at least 25x30x30!

  • its looks pretty damn big, like 7-9inchs?
