  • 夢の競演!

  • What are they actually doing between 1:09 and 1:13 PLEASE SOMEONE ANSWER ! Thank you !

  • @untipcubreton

They are bending the high E string downward, out of the fretboard.

  • @LordPrutsikas but how doesn't the sound just die out ? they're bending it but it's a pretty high note . i guess it's a harmonic but how in the name of heaven it keeps ringing when you bend it out of the fretboard

  • @untipcubreton

Because they're doing it over and over, bend-release, bend-release etc.

I think you can clearly hear and see it. Of course it's hard to control this kind of effect, but remember, these guys are not the typical guitar players...they're guitar freaks!

They're pickups, effects etc. also help.

  • @LordPrutsikas Thanks for the info but i have one more question . On which fret they hit the harmonic ?

  • Those guys are both freaks. Respect!!!

  • tony looks like the guy from fishbone

  • Both are decent guitarists but SHI-ITE at improvising, really really poor at it. What a tuneless racket! Anyone saying otherwise I fart fiercely in your general direction.

  • Too frothy ! can't beat the original. this is overkill and nauseous !

  • damn tony destroyed it.

  • Are you freaking kidding me? Amaaaaazing!

  • is it my imagination or Tony is more accomplished guitar player than Vai???

  • i would have ran up on stage and do im not worthy,im not worthy, like on the waynes world movie these fucking guys are the top notch elite guitarists

  • OK....this is hysterical....Tony with no hair...lol!

  • Wowwwwww!!!!

  • why aren't their finger in knots???

  • OMFG. Awesome!

  • great guitarists with awesome tone...except here? shit tone! WTF happened!?!?!

  • those guys are what it means to eat, sleep, breathe and dedicate your life to guitar playing. they know what note the other is playing and what mode, what scale, and arpeggio. they read each other and match flawlessly improvising lick after lick.

  • @thedamondude couldn't have said it better my friend!

  • The idiots in the audience have no clue that Jesus and God are on stage.

  • @Slassh69x LOL, good call.

  • Id kill to be there.

  • 2:20 - 2:40

hey thats from "im the hell outta here"!

  • 0:00 - 0:06 I love what MacAlpine does there.

  • 30 seconds of Vai and I move on...please make it stop!!

  • Me parece ami o Tony lleva puesta una camiseta de la seleccion argentina de futbol?, aparte de eso exelente jam.

  • I KNOW THEY TAPPED MY HARD DRIVE!!!!!! That's everything I've ever done!!!! ........MERLIN"S BEARD!!!!

  • Vai Wins! =D

  • looks like they enjoyed that about as much as i did!

  • steve win.

  • Mcalpine must surely be the most under rated guitar player of all time,he is awesome player.

  • @enos218 agree, with other great guitar players like Vinnie Moore, Chris Impellitterim, Joey Tafolla, etc

  • TU TOCAS VIEJO? ESTARIA CHIDO VER ALGO TUYO SALUDOS

  • These Fellows could do this ALL DAY LONG! Awesome!

  • なんじゃこりゃ!

  • i always heard, music is not about technics.....but when i see this duel where they play to who is the better i dont know what to think...

And who have the bigger dick finally ?...^^

Vai and Mac alpine compare their dick and music is not a competition ?..im a lil ironic but i hope u understood with my bad english. ^^.

After seeing these kind of vids ,its hard to say to a student,no dont be hurry, learn slowly etc...being the best is useless,u have to be the good one etc...

  • I think Tony MacAlpine would've been high up there along with Steve Vai and Joe Satriani if he had joined Whitesnake and David Lee Roth, not that Vai isn't good by in this video Tony played more fluid than Steve; most noticeably in the first 30 seconds.

  • Hello Carvin! Can you please tell me if the Alan Holdsworth model is still available please.

  • Tony Macalpine has a Tshirt of Argentina soccer team!!genius!

  • @PowerGuitar This video is from 2008. Tony already dumped the shirt cause Maradona is a dumb ass. He has a new one of the German team.

  • Steve Vai, puts on a hell of a show. For Steve Music is one half of the aspect , the other half comes the visual emphasis he puts into is music, He is fun to watch as performs his music.

  • 1:14 thru 1:16 No disrespect to Mr. McAlpine but Steve Vai's the only guy I've seen who has produced those arpeggios. Nonetheless, this is a very entertaining look at two virtuoso's just havin' a ball jamming! Whooo!

  • Wank-o-rama!!

  • 1:20 HAHA :D MR. MAGICIAN!!!!!!!

  • Floyd Mayweather, Jr!

  • I C 2 guitar giants getting off nice

  • I have seen Tony MacAlpine do that thing in 1:13 where he looks like he is sweeping w/ his finger in other solos. Is it just that? Or is he doing a kind of sweep-tapping thing?

And regarding the validity of the "music" and the "widdly widdly widdle":opinions vary on what makes music good or tasteful. The same can be said of Paganini or John Coltrane's music. Steve Vai is a virtuoso composer & mucisian of thier order. I think at times his music challenges you to listen closer. It's not pop.

  • @cfrancisco74 he's sweeping across the fretboard instead of across the pickups.

  • @cfrancisco74 he learned how to sweep with the pick while it's held between his middle finger and thumb.

  • @cfrancisco74 It's tapping at the end of the arpeggio but he's economy picking instead of sweeping cuz there's more than one note per string.

  • @cfrancisco74 He's holding the pick with the thumb and middle finger, and sweeping with the pick on the fretboard, and then using the index finger to do any tapping basically.

  • seriously this is how wars should be fought, with epic guitar duels, that would be awesome.

  • helo, where is music?

  • @YaShreder I agree. That is not music. It does not get anymore idiotic than that.

  • What are Steve and Tony both doing at 1.10? Is it some sort of pinch harmonic?

  • @Applefan1995 I think they're actually dragging the high e off the neck onto the side so it instantly frets crazy high. Satch does it as well, as do many others, most like.

  • Lol in this video, I can find Satch in Vai. The poses, the looks... The same which Joe does :)

    Anyway, IMO Tony rules.

  • Razzle Dazzle wankers.

  • Tony MacAlpine RULES

  • and thats it people how gods discuss a problem

  • Tony's truly talented, but Steve is otherworldly. His sound, "game" and charisma make him a freak.

  • @TheTrueFortress I think Tony has a better " this Melody sticks in your head for days" talent, but I definitely agree on steve being the most "otherworldly" player.

  • @paulpaid none of those melodies are displayed in THIS video however...lol...

  • This is so much fun to watch and to listen to, I love how they played off each other, showed their skills (but neither tried to show each other up) and just had a good time with it, that's what it's all about.

  • That other guy is terrible. he sounds so bad. thank god stevie vai was there cause everybody would of left if he wasnt.

  • @crazykid13131 that other guy is THE legendary tony MacAlpine neoclasical stuff is not my type of music but i recognize him as trully talented take a look at his songs i dont like it but tony macalpine is very skilled guy

  • Wow, wow....2 of my all time favs....awesome

  • good god. macalpine gives stevie boy a run for his money. lol. to bad hes backup

  • the musician in me says Tony but the kid in me says Steve....

  • carakk ..

    muito diferente ...

    esse kbelo aí ...

    mas anda muito ..

    o impro deles é muito diferente ..

  • Vai is THE face of Ibanez, The guys at Ibanez will bend over backwards and divide by zero for Vai. The whole RG series and Jem And Universe were all Vai concepts. I love Ibanez's myself. Anyway that was amazing I wish T-Mac would get the credit he deserves. He should be a household name like Satch, or Vai for that matter. I wish still made the guitar that Becker used, I would be saving pennies for that one. =(

  • @TensaZangetsu814 agreed... macalpine is one of the most incredible guitarists (pianists) out there. dont understand why everyone who likes rock and metal dont know his name. he is beyond fantastic. anyone who vai is willing to share the stage with can be nothing short of phenomenal

  • @jsterr1

Yea, too true man. And while i love Vai, i like the stuff T-Mac did back in the day much more, So when i heard that Macalpine was 3rd guitar/keyboard for Vai, i was like "Vai hired someone better than him as 3rd guitarist?"

i didn't write my first comment properly. I meant to say that I wish Carvin still made the guitar Becker used (DC200 i think), people are spending crazy amounts of money for them and that's money Carvin could be making (off of me).

  • @TensaZangetsu814 Becker? the best Carvin user evaaa!! they should honor him by making his model for immediate purchase on stock! that guitar would become what the Jem has becomed: a bestseller

  • @PabloakaChuck360

    100% agreed.

  • so have you ever tried to convince Vai with on of your Top Notch guitars? It's too bad that McAlpine left Carvin Guitars, o well, then again Vai is pretty much among the faces of Ibanez Guitars

  • @serazac25 Vai owns a number of Carvins for use in his studio.

  • Shreddding It Up!

  • que grande esa camiseta

  • @TheBoch1985 Fijate que abajo tiene la de Central.

  • the drummmer playin behind is virgil donati.....guy is very famous to play odd time double pararidles and double kicks...i am stoned to see him play 4/4ths !

  • is Crossroads??? what year??

  • @WmusiclifeforceV1 Search for Steve Vai(incredible guitar performance) and you´ll find it

  • Genios de las guitarras!

  • with aliens like these its already been written eons ago figure

  • This was a conversation, not a contest, between to guitar masters. Excellent.

  • Steve Vai's sound is better and louder which is unfair

  • i wonder if any of that was predetermined, or if it was all improv...

  • @MapleLeafAce

Tony and Steve may have gone over CABs arrangement but no full rehearsal took place to our knowledge.

  • @carvinguitars it's not Vai's place to try to play fusion he should stick at his stuff and not make himself as a clown by trying to play things that he can't.For all you Steve Vai fans face the truth he has his thing going on but even the worst fusion player is improvising better over chord changes then him.

  • @carvinguitars well obviously some of it was rehearsed; the harmonies and duets they were playing near the end of this video are impossible to just create on the fly.

  • SUPER FAST MODE AAAAAH on Steve! 2:42

  • Yawn

  • I love how Tony throws in that Phrygian sounding lick in a Dorian-sounding jam. 0:13

  • great players

  • only kidding about the negro thing. being of the caramel sexual chocolate persuasion myself,i'm inclined to lampoon the whole racial thing by using arcaic terminologies. One brotherhood.

  • @vgraham44 First of all, nobody really uses "negro" anymore. But on to your point... it's all about who you play with/for to get exposure. While Steve Vai was playing with Zappa and then getting major exposure with David Lee Roth and later Whitesnake, MacAlpine was doing instrumental stuff that appealed mostly to other musicians. I'm sure he had the opportunity to play in bands that would've taken him more mainstream, but apparently that wasn't what he wanted to do.

  • Tony FTW!

  • I would say Vai was better here, although MacAlpine's horrible tone didn't help.

  • @zackvanhalen u dont have a say

  • @Najeepain What do you mean by that?

  • to storpedo. I really don't understand your comment. please elucidate.

  • Comment removed

  • steve is great, however, he has a tendency to become a bit too zany a bit to often. its almost like comedy. i guess zappa really rubbed off on him.

  • vai owned macalpine..

  • macalpine is faster and his tone setup is a bit more likeable than vai's, but his playing looks/sounds sloppier. And lol @ musicality in a shred battle....like it matters? lol

  • @theupperclassbogan Quick answer? Yes. Legions of guitar players can play well technically. Playing well musically is the real test.

  • Wow, this was full blown ridiculous.

  • consider this: if either vai or macalpine saw the comments here tearing either player apart (for absolutely no justifiable reason) they would probably laugh at you and think you're a plain twat. they love and respect music. do you honestly think you're being a fan of good music when you sit here and tear either of them down? think.

  • @IHaveAPodXTLive Yeah, they're both fucking awesome...ridiculous battle. I liked it.

  • Vai is like the Michael Jackson of Guitar

  • Considering that Vai used to play with Zappa, he is a piss poor improviser. Tony eats him for breakfast.

  • like i said on another post. G3 needs to bring MacAlpine on as a featured performer. he played with vai as a rhythm guitarist but imagine Satch, Vai, and MacAlpine jamming together! talk about epic

  • @Musician4life89 I'm amazed Macalpine was never asked to be in G3 at any time. Loads of others have done it for a bit.

  • @ojideagu wasn't he on the g3 tour with vai,satriani,and malmsteen?..in vai's band

  • @jrod776699 Possibly, but if he was stuck in the background doing only keyboards and Rythm guitar that is a disgrace. He obviously has lost confidence in his guitar ability if he see's himself as beneath G3 guitarists. He sees himself as pianist first but thats no excuse.

  • Damn that looks like fun lol

  • Jeff did a so better take on this song called Stratus

  • steve vai is soo much better

  • @chadyboy22 lol, you're clueless.

  • @Kjutte1 clueless? nope just my personal opinion, neither of them are probably better then eachother, but i think steve vai's guitar tone is much better and less sloppy.

  • @chadyboy22 As I said, you are clueless. Tone is a preference, I agree to that atleast.

  • @chadyboy22 Hahaha, Tony is a supreme player - superbly well-educated, trained, experienced, and accomplished, though lessexposed than Vai, a great guitarist but more familiar to may, due to his fame.

  • музыка не о чем((

  • Steve Va is great playing Steve Vai, which means he has his own expression of playing. Tony is one of the mid eighties great instrumentalist of guitar and piano. I don't think this is a contest, just good plain fun.

  • are these ibanez guitars

  • yup

  • they had fun with, not serious at all, i like that

  • Wow, I won't be buying that album....

  • These guys are monsters! No doubt would pay to see either one of them.!

  • 1:11 stole that from Satch!!

  • Tony MacAlpine is GREAT, but Steve you can tell is just SO much more fluent in his playing. For example at 1:19. I have tremendeous respect for both of their music.

  • I don't like McAlpine. Steve Vai has reached ultimate freedom of expression in playing guitar. As for the lack of crowd enthusiasm of crowds in his concerts, it's because they are looking for their jaws on the floor.

  • Tony has spent a lot of time becoming a great virtuoso on piano too, he can play all of chopin´s etudes uptempo etc. He propably never had the time to practice on the guitar as much as Steve since he played a lot of piano too.

  • why is there never any crowd enthusiasm at Vai concerts? they always just stand there, which nigh impossible when there's such awesome music going on.

  • now im jealous..

  • As great as Tony is, Steve has so much more groove

  • Tony is so much better to listen to IMO

  • @jurkis1

Tony really is technically way more dynamic and musical than Vai in my opinion =)

Tony albums are amazing, He kills it on those keys too!

  • @burnedoutgolfer im not saying either of them are better than eachother. I hate it when people try to make everything a competition. But I am liking tony's tone a lot more in this particular video. That doesn't necessarily mean over all.

  • Un po' troppa confusione se assolano assieme...

    CiaU

  • 2.17 ...mcalpine dont try that on me

  • watch out mr vai lol

  • this video is awesome. amazing. I give it 5/5

PLEASE go to my favs and click on SUBURBAN GUY ROCKIN OUT

he doesnt read music, really feels what he plays and improvises his songs as he goes along. the other 2 favs are him also ARIEL (awesome shredding) and ARIEL SIMANTOV (awesome sweeping) pls view comment and rate them as we think he deserves recognition .thanks everyone!

  • the carvin kills the jem

  • agreed

  • As much as they are two great musicians, the trading 4s at 1:20 was quite hard on McAlpine...

  • OMG OMG OMG Freaking AWESOME wish I was there

  • technically superb, musically incredibly dull guitar wank fest.

widdly widdly widdly widdle pause widdly widdly widdly widdle!!

    c'mon please

  • dos grandes maestros, la vrdad que son unos capos!!!

  • Greg Howe,Steve Morse,John Petrucci,Al DiMeola should've been here too haha.

  • he looks like a cross between tiger woods and the rock

  • this is the perfeccion

  • Macalpine's the best on Planet X

  • Two masters getting busy. Lets hear rap do shit like this.........Never happen.

  • 1:21 Vai in the zone!

  • I prefer T-Mac's body of work, but then again he's part of my holy trinity- Yngwie, VinMan, T-Mac!

  • yay! FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR will be fighting STEVE VAI next!

  • Steve is the best no doubt but Tmacs' choice in guitar is a lot better than Steves' in my opinion because that dc727 is a phenomenal guitar.Carvin guitars are far superior to Ibanez and I would love to see Steve move over to Carvin,he already has in regards to the Amp and fx.

  • He's used Ibanez a little too long to say: "Fuck this shit I play Carvin now, bitches."

  • @blitzspeer.Well Tmac just went over to Ibanez.

  • Eugene has more tricks in his bag than TMac.

  • Ohh, I love stratus.!!

  • Too fast.......

  • This needs a touch of St Sanders...

  • @gauchohat

+1!!!! Are you getting this, Ojala?

  • Tony looks like hes's having a good time and Steve just looks too serious.

  • I have to pick up my face now ,it just melted

  • CADE A HARMONIA

  • Great playing!!

  • It's also track number 6 "Stratus" from Billy Cobham"s Warning

  • I just love that track, that simple but booming bass line

  • Did i hear a little " get the hell outta here "" ? :P

  • oh thats rrock and roll

    i wish it lasted forever....
