I usually never use 2 eight inch pans. I use only 1 that is approximately eight inches and twice as deep so that the whole mix fits in 1 pan and there is usually less of a dome on mine.

To tell you what I woulda done is make 2 rectangular cake's and 1 custard cake.

I would put the two rectangle cakes on top of each other but in thew middle of the top one, cut it on a slant to make it sorta dive into the other cake, then i would pant the bottom one blue, the top one a sandish colour. then I would Put the custard one on land or in the water doesn't matter, and colour it grey.

And in NO WAY would I use that much frosting!
