  • Great culturally, but really fucking weird if you look past it.

  • I don't get it...

  • Comment removed

  • Truly hideous.

  • "Quimmiruluapik"? lol can't even spell it right

  • I am not ignorant and I know what means thraot singing and this is not one of them what you guys called it true inuk thraot singing it is not even close to that. If you guys want to see a real throat singing and understand what mean thraot singing go to inuit community but this what she does for living got to change and get a new name for it not a throat singing and I do respect her for what she does but not happy if you all going to call it throat singing because its not even close to that.

  • what a shit!

  • lmfao

  • dopo si domandano come mai la gente non vuole andare in Canada e li prendono in giro

  • I am sorry for what I said!!! I am not a cruel person, I regret for what I said, I am glad you show the world our beautiful culture. I don't want to go on and do this okay!!! I would like to meet you one day and apologize. I am sure you are really good.

  • Just to let you know that Inuit don't like change. You should understand that.

  • @newyears75 everyone changes, you better get used to it....

  • i love this!!! it sort of reminds me of dubstep Xp

  • For anybody who does not understand Inuit Culture: This is a disgrace to our culture, and it is an embarrassment, I am so ashamed that she was at the Parlement. "DISGRACE " The person who made Qimmiruluapik still lives and she is embarrassed that this is song like this. This is a disgrace to throat singing society.

  • @newyears75 well you go on and be embarrassed. like it or not, Inuit culture evolves just like all other cultures. initially katajjaq was a method to communicate news between tribes, and it evolved into duet-like process involving two women. whos to say when the evolution should stop? her opponent is now string instrument

  • Those people hatin' need to look up inuit throat-singing and see where she is coming from. It's generally with two people and it sounds amazing!

  • how can I learn to do something even remotely like this? this is absolutely mesmerizing and beautiful.

  • She Day Craze O but it's ok.

  • What's Quimmiruluk?

  • lol

  • Looks like I just found my new career.

  • 35 People are Right :)

  • I'm a qallanuut just learning about the Inuit culture. This is so beautiful, I'm thankful for Tanya!

  • she'd make a good black metal screamer.

  • This Art form is thousands of years old. In the context of the environment it comes from, it is mesmerizing and highly erotic. For those who criticise, you have no hope of ever "getting it' so just shut the fuck up. For the rest of us, we should thank Tanya for having the courage to bring this utterly unique experience out of the Arctic to us in La La land. Keep it up Tanya, you are truly beautiful to me.

  • I keep clearin my throat when I listen to this

  • To have a good comparison of Throat Playing, have a look at Jaziza's works here on Youtube. I couldn't love this lady's work. By the way, this may be a local art and thus I respect it.

  • To have a good comparison of Throat Playing, have a look at Jaziza's works here on Youtube. I couldn't love this lady's work.

  • Tanya is the best! She's one of the most intense live performers I've ever seen. You need to see her to understand (videos can't do her justice). Also, this is a very stripped down and raw performance, quite different and more challenging than the more accessible collaborations she's often involved in.

  • dear God : thank life for this

& i'm not even 'local', me live in bad Ol'World ...

  • LOL! The video relay is slow in the background!!

I really like her singing, even though I've just started listening to it tonight.

  • Most of the audience was Inuit...so they probably loved it! I sure did. I love traditional throat singing! I think if people are to close minded and can't leave a positive comment...then don't leave one at ALL.! Tagaq put down stuff of your she doesn't like or understand. She is humble enough to appreciate life as unique.

Tagaq.....keep bringing you singing to the ears and hearts of the world...it is lovely....thanks

  • Amazing talent! Live in Prague is even better!!!

  • this is pretty amazing. admittedly, it's hard to get into, but the more you listen, the more the structure becomes apparent, and the more you can appreciate it. in terms of popular music, i'd compare the style to, say, beatboxing. or bjork.

  • She sounds like a pig, or when you play tug or war with a dog at the beginning. She comes out pretty, waves, then just ... "Ugzh.. Ughz... Ugh ugh UGH ugh....Ughz"

  • @TheXeno16 just cause you don't understand it....don't knock it!! She is from a place where it is -50 on a good day....so this is what they do as a game in their tradition...The difference between people like you and people like her...is that she is OPEN enough to accept and Love ALL kinds of music...even if it something she doesn't understand. Live and let live, but don't insult someones life work.

  • @Hecatai27 "She is from a place where it is -50 on a good day" Last year a good chunk of our winter was colder than where she's from. So blow me. We still have all kinds of things to do, without resorting to this.

  • w.....t.......f.......

  • eskymo on stage, great, not. well can't get the hang of it.

  • i think she is not a good singer. I do not like it

  • Actually, it kind of sounds like she's giving birth.

  • @AdvocateToTheAccuser Fuck you.

  • This seems strange, as usually throat singing is done by two people as a game. Also, she sounds like she's having an orgasm.

  • I'd have to agree with "qabluporter" on this one. I like Tanya, but we've all got different tastes. It's only the way in which you approach things that matters.

  • She sounded like the Jockey from Left For Dead 2

  • i dont know what people are saying, i think this is good music, and even a bit hot, it's kind of sexual

  • Yeah especaly when it look like a orgasm

  • She even says sexuality has a big influence in her performances

  • I looked up some of her other stuff and I like it... but this performance just sounds like grunting... sorry lol

  • It's just really strange to see this style of singing in the outfit she has on. An interesting mixture of western dress and Inuit culture. The accompanying instrument is a non-traditional one I assume. Great to see culture in "non-familiar" circumstances. Can't blame people for the culture shock, tho. :)

  • Try doing it first, then speak.

  • For all those people who TRY to put her down or make fun of her, she is earning a living on what she's known all her life and enjoying her cultural heritage, atleast she's doing what she know's and loves while getting paid for being the true amazing talented and creative INUK she is!I love u Tanya for being ur true self and being the great person u are!

All the people try to put u down are just sad ignorant peices of SHIT who are jelious they arn't as beautiful as u, both Inside and out!!!

  • @qabluporter

Well said!!! I got to see her last year in LA. I love this video, but can't stand the shoes Rebecca is wearing.

  • @qabluporter - Its crazy i was in the jungle the other day and a sore gorilla giving birth sounded exactly like this it was crazy. Also if you find this erotic consult a doctor.

  • i saw her live and i couldnt stop laughing

  • you're s so ignorant, it's unreal. try leaving your room and veiwing the world.

  • @blindingsun Nah. Apparently you don't know a troll when you see one dumbass. :P But seriously, what the fuck am I listening to?

  • dont know what a troll is? ME

    HAHAHAHAHh

dude i've been banned from more forums than you'll ever know. for troll baiting/trolling.

    gtfo scrub

  • @blindingsun fail for using the term "scrub," LOL.

  • she's wearing something so sophisticated... such a contrast.

  • way to go Tanya...it's about time someone updated throat singing!

  • medulla sounds!! great!

  • whats dis crap?

  • vote for best female beatbox artist?!

  • O.O This song actually has a name??? D:

  • Its not even qimmiruluapik! this is stupid!

  • i like what nadalarg said this sucks

    shes just beat boxing

  • She would be great in Silent Hill games

  • this sucks ..

  • wheres the other one?

  • Does anyone know the name of this song?

  • For all of you who have problems with Tanya not doing throat singing: stop being so conservative. Why couldnt she use the throat singing technics to do a bit differant music, music of her own?

  • Haters. :B

  • omg :O

  • she is not really thoat singing....i did not enjoy this preformance....i know its supposed to be contemporary but yessh....you gould have got some real Inuit throat singing.

  • Compared to all the REAL throat singer's...she's not good at all.

  • Does anyone else think Rebecca should have worn different shoes?

  • Want to see real throat singing type Real Inuit Throat Singing and you're see what mean throat singing I may be uneducated but I still can read and type but don't get me wrong what she doing is wrong and inuit elders may not accept for what she doing

  • I think I'm going to hide in the corner this is not throat singing!!!!!! This is embarassing to my culture it usally two people doing throat singing and its hard to do but I know how to do a little

  • Comment removed

  • Rofl! It reminds me of AIDs...

  • she looks more cancerous to me...

  • what the fuck am i watching

  • its a cross with a woman orgasm and a dog one lol

  • Seriously what the fuck is this shit? I think she woke up one morning with a huge hangover and tried to talk and this crap was spewed out, I'm not joking this is exactly how my mother sounds after a weekend out, without the fake-orgasm sounding noises.

I'd rather listen to cannibal corpse than this.

  • Way to diss an entire culture with your ignorant, uneducated moronicism.

  • I fap to this.

  • wtf is this shit...

  • I LOLd

  • This song is SO CATCHY!!

  • oh christ lol :D:D

  • I have a boner

  • this is just wrong!! look up "inuit throatsinging" first of all it's two people that throatsing (women) and they make the exact same sounds but a second apart so it makes a unique sound...the way tanya tagaq does it, she seems like she's having a really hard time getting off!! that is not "inuit" throatsinging!!! she is representing us "fellow" throatsingers wrongly

  • That was so skillful and impressive. The parts of the voice yo don't really know exist...

I think it did sound a little sexual, but I just think it showed her passion for her musical culture.

  • mom says: Wow... to have a fake orgasm on stage and get paid for it... Now THAT'S talent!!!

  • Does anyone know the name of the song?

  • Vision of Love

  • love it !! she is amazing, i saw her last week here in Norway, fantastic artist.....

  • Longfootbuddy- Your comment actually reveals more about you than it does about Tagaq, so you might want to think about examining this with your therapist.

  • Totally, go do it

  • She's playing in Downtown L.A. this summer. Saw her in the Grand Performances billing. Can't wait!

  • omg, wth

  • Up until now I've only heard her on Björk's album Medulla. Wow, she's so original and talented. I'd love to see her live at some point.

I can't help but wonder though, does that type of singing cause breathing difficulties?

  • I would think it would be hard on your vocal chords. Throat singing is suppose to be preformed in the cold, I wonder if the warm air would cause damaged.. but then cold air isn't good on the chords- so I don't know.

  • there is alot of throat singing technqiues found in various indigenous cultures around the globe - including africa... warm there

  • no... if anything it helps.. it improves lung and throat strength

  • SHE IS INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i wonder what the audience was thinking

  • @SaluteToTheSeagulls hmmmmmmmmmmmmm maybe in that moment everybody when for a drink hehe

  • As opposed to just another pathetic, sad person like yourself, whose mind is closed to anything that's original and just slightly different than anyrthing you're used to.

  • plus, half-breed? Do you thing you could be a little more racist?

  • KOOOOOOORRRRRRNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!! KOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRNNNNNNNNN! Singing infront of millions! Eskimo singing with KOOOORRRRRN !

  • This is taking place in Ottawa, Ontario; the capital of Canada.

I wish they would have filmed some close-ups of people's faces in the crowd during the actual performance, rather than at the beginning and the end. I bet a lot of them didn't know what they were in for.

This kind of sound is Inuit and has been going on for eons in their culture.

Very interesting. I'd like to listen to the older recordings of this sort of thing - the ones from the actual northern communities.

  • sooo relaxing

  • great song!

  • Should we really mix our heritage with western stuff to please whities?

  • Picasso was a fine draughtsman in western art, but he chose to perform the more subtle type that is more akin to native cultures.

Art in that sense came full circle, back to the so called primitive beginnings. But it wasn't really primitive - it was on par with the modern type.

This music is like the modern abstract atonal kind. The original throat sounds were a bit more simpler and less embellished.

It sounds weird at 1st to the outsider (other cultures).

  • I guess we should just be stuck in our ways and never progress or try new things.

  • i just love her in that dress... :-)

  • hah

  • one word- unique

  • LOL

i think this is really really cool, just not what i'm used to,

it really evokes a lot of images for me

  • I think ur bullshit and disgusting....

  • heh

  • lol dont matter about tradition she is tha shizz i love her and shes talented fukk all u haters

  • Já nevím jestli su taká piča, ale totok fakt nemožu :-D

  • it is a modern/contemporary style that is based off the traditional throat singing style.

  • Speechless...

  • She sounds like she's having a fit.

  • AMAZING! It was be soooo incredible LIVE! SHe is my new religion.

  • Fabulous! Thanks for this vid.

    I love her creativity.

  • You suck! Thats not traditional!

  • Great!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love her featuring with Bjôrk in Médulla...

  • I love her so much

  • That's fucking metal

  • i'm just trying to say this song she is singing is not called qimiruluapik, the song is telling a legendary story and for her to use it in her own way i don't like... maybe if she named it with something with her own style. you kno what i mean?

  • Comment removed

  • not really.

  • Comment removed

  • qimmiruluapik is a "traditional" throat song and should not have been named for this song which is more modern. as an inuk, i wouldn't call this throat singing, i'm sorry but it's not the traditional way.

  • This i tell yuu isnt really throat singing,

throat singing is with two people competing, entertaining. This really sounds like a horror movie theme song at the end,

or crazy sex..Throat singing is a traditional competetion between two people.I like yuu tanya but i dont like what yuu do as a throat singer, i am an inuit also, i throat sing with another person, but i dont do it as one person, i do it the traditional way.

  • I just saw her at the North American Indigenous Games and it was one of the most excellent and amazing musical experiences ever. I had never heard of her and now I can't wait to see her again.

  • omg wtf??

  • sounds like a mix between a beatbox'er and a digeridoo player.

  • Ta ženská si normálně dělá prdel, to není možný

  • interesting, but too strange for me.

  • well what do u listen to bet u cant understand it but u still listen to it . i would go she her show if she was in my area cause she is my friend so there

  • good point that there are other music types out there that people need to open there minds to, but Tanya isn't rewriting history, she is renewing it.

  • coming from an Inuk, this sounds pretty funky! Ofcourse i prefer the traditional throat singers, but this is out of this world. No way near to the Inuit culture. I think she just improvised the whole show. I guess it works. Ones talent is anothers laugh, this is just one of them. I can do that in my washroom too.

  • yeah anything is considered as music today when you see that bitches who can't sing properly, like britney spears, are considered as music!! open your mind and try to do the same you'll see it's kinda hard. And I bought her Sinaa Album wich is one of the greates thing I've heard
