Ducati Monster 696 VS Triumph Street Triple

video comments aside... i'm looking at these two bikes myself with a Harley XR1200X thrown in the mix as well... in my experience, a Ducati is like a Ferrari, work great! till they have issues and when they do they're EXPENSIVE issues.. the Triumph has a more extensive maintenance plan, makes more power out of less displacement, has a better sound IMHO and with a bigger gas tank and basically equivalent gas milage you'll get further on the Triumph per fillup. my vote is the triumph all the way.

the duc is 1000 euro cheeper in italy and has better brakes but the street triple has more or less 25 hp more but the same torque 69nm the r version of triumph is equipped with full adjustable suspensions...so I would by the street-triple couse it is a better bike iven if it costs more , but I suggest to try both then all the tecnical aspect could not mean anything... you gonna buy a good bike anyway .drive safe ...

Tea Bag it baby, Triumph is great. Hubby has one, I've ridden it, it's great. Quick and sporty. Doesn't have any of the vibrations of a twin like the Monster. Plus the maintenance is cheaper.

The triple performs slightly better. The 696 is much more beautiful and sounds ALOT better. I rode both. Bought the 696.  Haven't regretted it for a second.

The triumph for sure. I test rode both and the triumph was just a better bike. It depends on what you're looking for, but the triumph engine is super smooth while the twin is chuggier. I now own the striple and have ridden it extensively and just love the bike!

I just picked up my 09 Street Triple Saturday after closely considering a Ducati 696 Monster. I made a better choose. The Street Triple blows away my old 03 Honda CBR 600F4i. Handling and Performance in a great package. I dont like the Ducati clutch sound and sometimes the welds on the trellis frames look like a 12 year old did them. I got 3 thumbs up from people in cars just taking it home and a man almost rear ended the car in front of him from staring at my bike,

street triple's performance is a little better than monster's and ducatti brand is more flashy than triumph.

If you liked the triumph's design then there would be no question about it...

I'm trying to decide between these two bikes too. Ducati design I think it's better but, everybody own one, it's most popular. In the other side, ok, triumph it's faster and u can handle it well in traffic..plus, the fact that a triumph has good british style...Maybe it's less "japanese" in terms of design: If u buy it now you will have a modern line even in the future. Besides ducati by the fact is more japanese has lost Its italian charming style (of 695 model).

Well Ive just bought the Triple, and man what a bike! The torque is fantastic and the bike design is a killer, have had it for about 2 weeks now and loads of people watching the bike and comments, nice! Dont know anything about the Monster tho, but for me it have always been the triunph since Mission Impossible 1 hehe (yes I know its the Speed) You wont regret if you go for street thats for sure, I have more open mufflers aswell and fully equipped sound is awesome !

i took both bikes for a test ride. and i was very disappointed about the new monster it lacks power all the way.and if you're taller than 1,80m it might get very uncomfortable in comparison to the ST.the design of the monster is nice but everything else is not up to date(who the f&!% needs a choke?!). i went for the Triple and after 13'km i don't regret my decision and you won't neither. Trust me!

monster is by the far the best choice. Ive got the new one and not only does it go like hell it handles brilliantly and all the components are top notch, brembo brakes, marchesini rims, showa fork, sachs damper, brembo clutch and brake lever, all digital clocks, that awesome exhaust note and best of all the way everybody looks at the bike. Ducati is by far the best option. let me know which one you get in the end.

Hi Spyke. There is no question about this. The Triumph Street Triple is THE new daddy of naked bikes. Back in '93 the monster may have reigned supreme but it has certainly had it's day. Ducati have done extremely well over the years to re invent it. I had an '02 620ie & the desmo engine is awesome but Triumph have something really special here. The Streetfighter style is also something which Triumph have almost defined with the Speed Triple & it's bad young brother the street.
