The Orange uniforms have nothing to do with Protestantism. The gentleman (Charles Moore) who chose the University's colors was colorblind. He saw Yellow sunflowers on "The Hill" and thought they were Orange.

They weren't sunflowers, they were American Daisies that are in fact, orange, although a slightly different color. There are sill some on campus.

Did you expect them to all purchase new uniforms just to march in the St. Patrick's Day parade? I'm sure the Lord Mayor of Dublin knew what Tennessee's colors were when he invited them to play in the parade. By the way, I was there and saw lots of people wearing orange and they weren't from Tennessee!

and anyway, i don't know what the lord mayor's motives were behind choosing UT, but these kids were excited to come to Ireland and just wanted to play, they didn't come to start something political I was there as well and noticed that the people in green did not boo them.

I agree with you. The UT band was asked to go to that parade and they were very happy to come. And now people want to make a huge deal about our colors. And like you said, we didn't go their to start anything political. So, I really don't get why everyone is making a huge deal about it.

Sousas are fine and great, but proper marching tubas have a far more developed tone

hmm... actually i'm not a sousaphone i just think it's funny how blast when they go by the camera...

Watch some of the DCI concert formation videos, particularly the cadets, madison, or phantom and listen to the bass. Marching tubas and contrabass bugles project much better, and they don't have intonation issues.

I have watched those... and i'm not trying to get into an argument about which is better... i play trumpet, i seriously don't care about the difference between sousas and marching tubas... i was only making a comment about the fact that when the sousaphones went past the camera, it was almost too loud and low that the camera couldn't take it... that's great if a marching tuba can do it better, but i'm talking about this video which has sousas in it
